TGV, I’d like to thank you so much for getting me into this hobby. I’m 14 and just bought my first watch, a Yema Superman Quartz. I know its not the automatic, but a broke teenagers budget only goes so far. Thanks again for introducing me to this new world. May your watchbox be full and may your wallet be empty

    • @henrycolestage4249

Well done, Vincent. Lovely watch. Don't worry, there's nothing to apologize for. You are on the right track. I told this to my sons when they were about your age, "A man doesn't usually wear much jewelry but when he does, he wears a watch. So make it a good one. It says something about you." Your Yema certainly says something. Wear it well, be humble, be kind, be generous, and you will go far. Cheers!

Congratulations, Vincent! One thing you'll learn in this hobby is that you should buy the watch you enjoy, not what others want you to wear. There's absolutely nothing with a quartz movement. It's more affordable (up front and in maintenance), super convenient, and reliable. Enjoy your new watch and best of luck collecting.

I recently bought a Yema Superman Heritage Blue 39mm and it has become my favorite watch. It's also cool to have a French watch while most people are looking to get Swiss or Japanese. BTW, everyone should have at least one quartz watch; remember, they're almost superior to automatic in every way. Almost.

    • @AleksiJoensuu
      @AleksiJoensuu 4 роки тому +9

Hey, absolutely no shame in quartz watches! Fifteen years from now, you're going to have 5-10 unserviced, possibly broken mechanicals lying in your watch box (and maybe a couple ones you did service and/or are actually running). That Yema though will be humbly ticking away, keeping perfect time like when you bought it, not making a fuss about itself... As long as you change the battery of course.
      Welcome to the hobby! 🙂

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I had been looking at the No Time To Die Seamaster 300, but with a 6.25" wrist felt it was just too big for me. I'm now wearing a black 39.5 Planet Ocean, and it's the perfect fit.

I once walked into the Omega pop-up in SoHo wearing my Planet Ocean. People were so focusing and talking about those Speedies that I felt like I was wearing my beater Casio. This just speaks to how overlooked and underrated this watch is. Needless to say, I walked out of there a happier guy as underrated is what I was looking for. The name is Seamaster, Omega Seamaster.

I must come back and express my gratitude. I had given up on a great modern diver, preferably an Omega, in a size that really fit me well. I just stopped looking. Then I came across this video last year, and I was shocked I had missed this reference. When I tried it on, the fit was amazing. I've owned this watch since last summer, and it is my favorite everyday piece. On the rare occasion I wear a more fitted cuff, I just wear a different watch. Thank you for how useful these videos can be, even long after you've posted them.

I have the 43.5mm version of this watch. I fell in love with that blue the instant I saw it in person at an AD. So elegant, so stunning, and yet so understated. After almost two years of constant wear I'm still besotted. It's tough as old boots, and I can attest to the accuracy of the movement IRL. About once a month I take it off and adjust it by 2-3 seconds. I swear this thing thinks it's a quartz watch!

Have had this 39.5mm blue model for two years, and very happy with it. Built like a tank, and the short lug to lug span makes it a great choice for us wrist-width-challenged individuals. If it had been 20mm lug width and perhaps a mm or two thinner it would be perfect.

About the bit about using one as a knuckle duster I think you're absolutely right about the fact that the watch itself wouldn't even notice the impact in timekeeping accuracy. You might get a scratch or something in the case but at that point it just becomes one of the many stories you'll have to tell about when someone asks about it.
I've been wearing mine daily in not so friendly and "officey" environment and frankly after the first few months when I racked up the first few scratches I really started to love the PO in a way other than as a just luxury watch.
It can take beatings and keep strict tolerances while looking absolutely stunning.

I enjoyed this review really well! TGV, you really done a good job of being objective without leaning towards either side, and i have some point i will agree and disagree: the no-date option (yeah, i agree with this, there should be a choice between having a date display or not), it being a strap monster (i wholeheartedly agree with that, it is indeed a strap monster because of the dial color!), it being a any situation watch (it's a split opinion with what you say because this one is arguable), non-tapering bracelet (i kinda agree with that, but the look of it is interesting), the 19 millimeter lug width (definitely agree with that) and the thickness (i kinda disagree with that because the water resistance and the size of the movement dictate the thickness of the watch, but i will agree that a closed watch caseback would reduce the thickness).
Also, regarding you mentioning the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean dive watch in the film Casino Royale (2006) being used by James Bond as a rudimentary brass knuckle in the Venice fight scene at the end of the movie, i wrote a BanG Dream! and Love Live! featuring South Park and the Eurovision Song Contest crossover fanfic, titled: "The wedding day of Sayo Hikawa and Tsugumi Hazawa with Johnny Logan as the priest", in the fanfic, Tsugumi Hazawa break down into tears on her wedding day to Sayo Hikawa after her father forced her to keep her surname because she is marrying Sayo and both of them are female so she have to keep her surname, according to Tsugumi's dad, the decision of Tsugumi's dad gets interpreted by Kenny McCormick as being homophobic and it leads to a chain of events where Tsugumi's dad gets bruised to hell at Sayo and Tsugumi's wedding ceremony by the awesome Jewish motherfucker, Kyle Broflovski, with his Ollech & Wajs C-1000 dive watch being used as a rudimentary brass knuckle, in a true Ian Fleming style of improvisation like in that Venice fight scene at the end of Casino Royale.
Here is the fanfic if you want to read it: archiveofourown.org/works/41396907
Edit: Kyle's tool dive watch is now changed to the titanium Stowa Prodiver in lime green.

Great watch! In fact I liked it so much I bought one. I have a small wrist 16.5 cm, my eye sight is not what it used to be so I got the 43.5 mm so I could see it better. Bad thing is once I got home my wife informed me that the 12 marker and the triangle on the bezel don't align. I called the AD and he said I have to send it in under warranty to get it fixed even thou I just bought it that same day. I'm thinking that a watch that retails for $6,550.00 should not have Seiko level QC problems like this. That said I will wear it for a few months before I send it in to get repaired. Great review.

Thanks TGV. I really love the planet oceans. To me they are much more attractive than either the Rolex submariners or the Omega Seamaster Diver 300 (I personally hate the scalloped bezel and the strange bracelet links). The sub is in between the two omegas for me, aesthetically.
My planet ocean is the 43.5 “Goodplanet” in titanium and with the GMT complication. The lightness for its size is amazing (though still plenty heavy!) and it’s a true “do anything” watch that I use for daily work and also travel (or did before Covid). The blue lacquer face is simply luscious and creamy and lustrous and I don’t know about you but I love staring at it. I love the brushed, minimally polished and minimally blingy look and the slightly darker gray of the titanium.
Regarding the date, I personally welcome the complication, and I think the apparent symmetry is somewhere in between a no-date sub and a sub date, because the cyclops for me breaks the symmetry much more obviously than the replaced numeral. Again, just my personal perception.
My wrists are quite small, but it just fits across my wrist. The new ceramic 45.5mm planet oceans are simply too big.
I’ve discovered a strange effect of the aspect ratio of a watch... My first luxury watch was actually more “outside the box” with a grand seiko Hi-Beat automatic, also in titanium. I still love the look of that watch, but it never fit me correctly so I sold it (and didn’t lose a dime). At 39mm it was obviously smaller, but incredibly thick for its diameter due to the display back. It just looked strange on my wrist- the case sitting up proud from my skin, suspended on a shelf of sapphire.
This one, though both larger in diameter and thicker, doesn’t have that effect to the same extent.
I’ve looked at many other watches since buying this one, and I think I made a mistake buying it because it’s got all the features aesthetically and functionally that I want. XD
I’ve looked at Rolex datejusts (36mm is really the perfect size for me), jlc reversos, submariners, speedmasters, etc. Each one seems to be lacking something (whether obvious function or je ne sais quoi).
Probably a datejust will be next since it’ll look a bit less out of place on my wrist when I’m wearing short sleeves. Or perhaps a gmt-2 Pepsi if I can get my hands on one, with the “themed collection” excuse. Maybe one day a Patek world timer too! XD
I did luck out and find a vintage speedmaster day-date (not sure of the reference but it has the “pump action” date set for timeframe) in my grandfather’s things. I never even knew he had it! It’s been serviced and is now my leather strap /dress watch, so that niche is filled all of a sudden.
Damn Omega and their damn satisfying watches. XD
    Cheers!

I have a serious addiction to POs. I bought a used 45.5 cal. 8500 which I felt was too big for my 7.5” wrist, and flipped it for a used 43.5 cal. 8900 master chronometer. Was happy till I tried one of these on. For me, this is the best of the bunch. Ok, it isn’t slim compared to some other divers, but it is the slimmest of the newer POs, it is comfortable, I like seeing a watch movement and will happily deal with the thicker dimensions. If it was slimmer with 300 m water resistance I could see the appeal, but it is the tough, scratch resistant, magnetic resistant resilience and elegance that is so appealing. As an added bonus, the discount for an AD when I was abroad was crazy. Perhaps the size reduces the appeal for some, but having owned three, this one has proven to be the best for me. It’s an iconic watch in a size that suits most people.

I own the 43.5mm version in black and I honestly don’t find it that big or heavy? My previous daily was a Seiko Samurai and I feel that is a larger and bulkier watch.
100% agree on the lug width, although I love the bracelet so won’t be changing anytime soon

TGV, seriously mate, you need to do an episode for us video geeks. Your editing is superb. Please, at least one episode where you talk about your editing and filming process. As a budding overland travel channel myself, I am in awe of your professional level deliverables.
On the watch front, who doesn't love an Omega?! Stunning watch. In fact, I was just recovering a nuclear warhead when I was suddenly called to a high stakes game in Monaco. I found myself without a decent timepiece as mine had been damaged by smashing some chav in the kisser with it so Hugo, one gentleman to another, lent me his Seamaster... ;-) I hated to give it back, but, you know how it is. Thank him for me again, will you? You're a brick! Kind regards,

Great video, but I've had watches thicker than this fit under a cuff, so your negative really isn't a negative at all. Thickness is fine. Your Lorier isn't much different.
This is, for me at least, the perfect watch. In black, though.

Great video - I've owned this model/spec piece since 2017. What you said is exactly on point. I have worn my daily, and when I mean worn daily, I've spent months with it camping across the outback, take it in the ocean 2-3 times a week and worn it weddings and work every day with business shirts/cuffs. As I don't rotate watches I don't really notice the weight after a few days, but agree it is a bit thick for it's relatively modest dimensions. And personally would have taken a caseback to shave off a 1mm as is a bit chunky. But the engineering/specifications of this is incredble. Never serviced either and runs fine. I've got a few scratches on the polished part of the case, but bezel is like new. One issue I had in the first few years was the He screw came loose a few times, and once I noticed it only as I was stepping into the water! Since then I cranked it super tight and hasn't come loose in 4-5 years. The braclet is a bit chunky but super smooth on the wrist, a screw has never come out and been super robust. And I'm never buying a braclet without glidelock/quick adjust feature. Also when I bought it, came in a unisex style box with red ribbon, while 41 and 44mm versions came in the big 'manly' wood box. Not sure if that has changed or is an issue for you, but did annoy me a tad as was my first luxury watch. This was back in the 'big watch' era, the sales person kept bothering me why getting a watch to small. But glad I stuck to instincts as it is the perfect size for me, despite been over 6' tall. Otherwise incredible watch, probably due for an overhaul soon. Fingers crossed for a titanium version in the near future since that is in vogue and could help the weight situation here. Tried on a new submariner a couple weeks ago, didn't do anything for me, and certainly not $15k worthy. If you like this, get it.

Love the video TGV, highest quality watch content on UA-cam as always!
Slight nitpick at 18:00: while this watch would certainly survive a saturation dive and the opera in the same day, the wearer would not fare too well going from 20 atm to 1 atm within a few hours.

What a perfect watch! Way too rich for my blood, but I'm glad some guys will be sporting it. The height of fashion at my medical facility is an Apple watch, so I'm the only watch aficionado among my peers. How they contort themselves to allow the screen stay on while they measure respirations and pulse is beyond me. I've been wearing a black 39.5 mm Oris Aquis exclusively these days, although I wore my Sinn 104 with a suit recently.

I was pleased to see on your wristwatch check that you are wearing the same watch today as I am TGV. I love the early history of the Explorer 36mm and also the fact that Ian Fleming ( some of his ww2 exploits are worth examining) and Bond (in the books) wore one, and best of all my partner Sarah encouraged me to buy mine saying it is the most perfect watch for a man that she had seen (she has taste). I do want a Seamaster like this, it is a beautiful watch with real presence, particularly as I’ve hankered after an Omega with a co-axial movement for ages, but I have a lot of saving money first!. Patience is a virtue.

Great video once more TGV. I do love Omega and like the Planet Ocean. As a blend of history, style, technology and capability it is a hugely impressive watch. It is quite imposing though and I find it personally a little fussy so plumped for the perhaps simpler Seamaster 300.

My first luxury watch was an Omega Planet Ocean 2500 - a superb watch. Owned a few of them over the last 13 years of collecting. I was pleased to hear when Omega announced the 39mm PO because I have smaller wrist like TGV. Not sure I would pick one up now though due to the weight and thickness - about 40g heavier and 1.5mm thicker than my 114060. Omega really does know how to finish their cases, the brushed/polished surfaces are done to perfection.
Some of my favourite watches from Omega was my SMP 2531.80 and AT8500 "Skyfall". Can't believe I ever sold those watches in the past!

Great video TGV. Ice owned 10 variations of the Seamaster and the titanium 42mm Planwt Ocean addresses all of your negatives. In grade 5 titanium Omega was able to produce a finely finished watch with high polish like regular steel watches. Also, it is featherlight weighing 123 grams. It also has a tapering bracelet from 20mm down to approximately 17mm. I've owned 50-70 watches including Rolex, Breitling Grand Seik, Sinn, etc. and this is one of the nicest for sure IMHO.
