    Found your videos recently.
    Today played front 9, having already decided what would be an acceptable score.
    All tee shots were at least 1 club less than I’d usually go for, all transport or approach shots was 1 club more with an easy swing.
    I had the most stress free 9 holes, shot 1 under my hcp par and enjoyed the hell out of it.
    “Drop the ego, play the position and realize what a good score is.”
    Awesome advice.

    "When you combine position chasing with ego dropping you get great scores". A lot of wisdom in one sentence. So many guys are obsessed with smashing it a mile they are usually recovering from bad lies on their second shot. Play under control and let the game be easy.

    Most immediate impact of the 5, if you want to break 80 or 5 shots better than your best score! is putting distance control.
    Easy method, find a flat putt on practice green around 25ft,3 or 4 balls hold your follow through as you watch the ball roll,try and connect your brain/senses! to the roll of the ball
    Advanced do the same right hand only or with eyes shut!

    “And every now and then a blind squirrel finds its acorn” I love that saying. Huge ups to the info on avoiding 3 putts! Distance control has become huge for me while putting because if I know I can’t putt in 1 I can at least put myself close enough to the hole to make that second putt. The key is shaving off strokes in the right places and in turn lowering your score through each hole. Another thing is to play courses more than once, you get used to the feel, conditions, and greens of the course and become a more knowledgeable players on said course. :)

  • @MattyG-tv4cu
    @MattyG-tv4cu 6 днів тому

    I learned a few years ago to not really worry too much about score, just focus more just how you’re hitting the ball. If you’re making good contact but get unlucky or misjudged what club to use, so be it, your score won’t be as good that hole/day but if the contact is solid it’ll come.

    Tip I picked up from my dad when I learned to golf, when you’re on the fringe like that at 2:20 ish, use a 3 iron (if you have it in your bag) to putt. It helps the ball clear some of the taller grass that can make your putt from the fringe unpredictable. I used that tip a lot when I used to play.
    When I was a caddy, I had a golfer ask me what to hit in that situation, and I told him to putt with the 3 iron. He ignored me and took out a wedge and ended up 15 feet from the hole. I told him it would have been better to putt with the 3. He told me he would give me $50 if I got it in from there with the 3 iron. I drained it. He took my advice the rest of the round and took 5 strokes off his game. He asked for me every round he had after that.

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  5 днів тому +1

      Exactly. There is even a crazy way to putt with an old school 2 iron. I will put it in a video. That 3 iron tip is gold of you have one in the bag

    • @whaddup691
      @whaddup691 5 днів тому

      @@GolfSidekick I would say for anyone at that level, they should find one at good will to keep in their bag. It’s very unlikely if you’re at that level you need a full 14 clubs in your bag. You’re likely pretty good with a handful clubs, need a handful more for specific situations (like a sand wedge). Maybe 10 clubs you use regularly and well. Making space for something like that forces you to keep your game simple

    Damn. I'm surprised this Golf Messiah has not been crucified. I play off HC21. I started on HC28 2 years ago. Followed Golfsidekick matra and lessons. Cut scores down massively. Being that high HC, playing in club competitions that mostly have stabelford scoring, Golfsidekicks mantra makes scoring in those competitions really effective and to be honest, very easy. This video is no different to playing HC1 golf or HC21. You have made a massive impact mate. Met several West Aussie golfers randomly in WA that have been touched by your golf brain. Cheers mate

    @11:13. The maintenance people that punch a cup in the ground ⛳ they are supposed to "pat down" around the hole after the holes made, if they don't do this they causes a lip to stick up around the cup so every time you putt it goes like a toilet bowl flush when you try to putt it in..

    Beach thing yep. I was afraid of 3i as a kid and my dad sent me to range with only that club and a super bucket. By the end I wasn't afraid and could hit different kinds of shots with it.

    I can do that. I have done that. But my in Monster wants to PLAY. I stopped keeping score when I was about 50 and just hit shots now, good or bad. It's more fun...

    What a Playa.
    My biggest problem with you is after watching your videos I begin to use your language in my day to day life.
    I consistently ask my team at work "what has to be true for us to feel confidential about this upcoming project"...
    No one knows if I am talking about security concerns or if I'm having a stroke....

    Ben Hogan ideally never hit a shot in a tournament he hadn't practised 200 times... no strokes rained bs for him and he won 9 majors and battered everyone . Gentle Ben! What a guy! Like Matt Baus

    Baus... would like to hear your opinion on this... how do you mentally or physically prepare yourself to think quickly about all the aspects that you think of when playing golf...
    Courses are overloaded because of profit chasing and there's always someone rushing you...
    So do you have tips to stay calm and focussed thinking about your golf...
    Use to be a 4 handicap dropped to an 8 because of inconsistent rounds

    Length is nothing without direction. You have both. Plus you can chip and putt which makes you deadly. Length is a huge reward. Being able to hit a 4 iron on a tight par 4 and have a short club in instead of the rest of us having to hit driver to get to that short club position is such an advantage.

      Well, but @GolfSidekick Matt made clear since years that individual club choice should relate to confidence, which comes from consistency as well as accuracy. Leaving ego beside for most golfers is the biggy here, I guess. As a lady baus, I took my medicine and focussed on practicing up @ downs. Also went back to my irons (incl. 4Iron) and wohoo. My hcp is now down from 20 to 16 in 2023. Will play my woods in 2024 and am looking forward to further development. 😊

      @@gotchugarrosh6825 for shorter hitters, the best thing in the world is learning to hit the hybrids and woods like a baus or honorary baus.

      @@GolfSidekick Sure does. Our courses have been closed for months due to rain. I've played 9 holes since November. I bet I can't break 110 right now if I could find a course that was open.
