Just one demo this time. It's about trying out an unfinished capture the flag game. And nothing else. 0:00:00 No Players Online Twitch stream with chat: / 2361815550
Actually loving the idea of hybridizing games together from a game prototyping perspective. Never mind that it makes... No fucking sense to jam one game into another game. Seeing it play out like this is believing it.
Doesn't seem like the hybrid game really has anything to. Do with its base materials either, really. Concept is good but the execution here may be lacking.
@squeezebird true. Ooh what if stuff combined with FwK2 showed glimpses into Jason's life...? And it wouldn't be easy to separate that from the shoot game stuff?
@playerslotavailable3810 yeah, I think that's part of what I'm not feeling with this game. The anachronisms with the era and technology don't help with immersion, which I assume is the point of layering the game in old media facades. Like, this isn't what 1994 looked or felt like. So why is the game pretending it is?
@@AllisonIsLivid You're absolutely right. The way the admins and such act in this forum is very much Web 3.0 "We're mostly concerned about ad revenue and not getting our website shut down", not the web 1.0 "hey guys heres the rules: don't be a jerk. don't double post. don't necro the threads. ok byeeee"
the multiple posts written in all lower case certainly don't help. i'm sure some people posted like this back then but even in the mid 2000s you'd get quote posted with corrections and **fixed that for you**. IF ANYTHING POSTS IN ALL CAPS WERE FAR MORE COMMON
@Blues_Light no, it's 100%. Either they did it intentionally for some reason, or they just don't know. They need to justify it somehow because it really detracts from the experience.
I remember original No Players Online used to be just a little creepy FPS adventure. Weird how with this rework they're turning it into something so convoluted and complicated. Can't say this is an improvement
@Klarden I think I had seen the original, maybe on that one horror demo channel. I don't remember the story there, but I'm not loving the dead wifery we're dealing with now. It's extremely unimaginative.
You know that thing that happens in horror a lot where a cool, independently-made concept gets taken out of context and aggressively overexplained by people that aren't the original creator and it takes all the intrigue and horror out of something, turning it into what could affectionately be described as "marketable slop?" No reason in particular for this thought.
Watching more of this, it feels like this game has an identity crisis. It wants to be based on No Players Online, but it also wants to be like Hypnospace, but it also wants to be Pony Island, and all in all it just kinda ends up making it into the video game equivalent of a TV dinner.
@@paper_maiden Y'know, I hadn't really considered using Donnie Darko as context for "you took the mystique out of your thing and made it less fun" before now.
The actual worst part of getting older is seeing anachronism for a time period you were alive in

This is just what operating systems were like back then
Kinda neat! I agree that the idea of combining games is the most fun aspect of it, and I'm interested to see where they take that idea.
Well, it's no HypnoSpace.
Yeah, well, Hypnospace didn't have Fishing with knives II.
Fishing with Knives, while great, is a pale competitor to Slayers X.
@@AllisonIsLivid Got burnt out on Slayers X. Idk what it is but Gorbino's Quest is really doing it for me lately
I usually love games with fake forums ect, but it really doesn't feel like these would be posts made in 80s/90s
jas0n1 has always existed in forums and comments though,
@derecksheppard5913 that is true, I'll admit

Feels weird to say this but, a lot of the language and manner of speaking (or typing) in this feels anachronistic.

_Fishing with Knives 2_ reminds me of the old sea captain from _the Simpsons._ "Arr, I hate the sea, and everything in it."
Reminds me of something I would have sunk 10s of hours into on Adult Swim Dot Com in 2009
Then there's Ridiculous Fishing
The sea's bounty will know the sting of dual MAC-10s
I really want to like this, but all the anachronisms keep grounding my disbelief instead of suspending it

Aren't the people who made this the original creators of No Player Online, tho?
We might have a Donnie Darko situation on our hands.

Sometimes I'd prefer it if a slice of something just stayed a slice of something and didn't try to explain itself to me.
This one is pretty neat
