I’ve really got to use different keywords because why am I just finding this video... being gentle on myself, I’m also learning more now (terms) to even know what I’m looking for. Thank you for easy to follow information.
I have had a serger for just a short time and I need to alter some active wear, but I didn't know how to do a flatlock!! Thanks so much for answering all of my questions!
I use my serger a lot, but generally just for finishing seams, so it's unlikely that there will be many serger only projects; it's just not what my machine gets used for.
Hi Melly. This is the BEST video I've watched on UA-cam. I always wondered how to make this decorative border with the serger. ok! The blade has to be lifted. Another precious tip is to stretch the stitches I learnt so much in a few minutes by watching your video on decorative border. thought the serger ONLY CUTS. 😁😁😁 Thanks for sharing and caring. Big hugs to your little handsome model. Maybe he's 3 years now. 👍👍👍🎅🎅🎅💕💕💕 Wish you all the best and Happy Holidays. May your dreams come TRUE
Thank you for this video! Do you know if it is possible to assemble the regular way with a 4 thread overlock and then use the flatlock to finish the seam on the outside like a coverstitch just to get that decorative look when sewing leggings?
They're all the same amount of flatness, the difference is how much thread is covering the seam. I do think the 2 thread wide and the 3 thread (which is also wide) are more stable for seams that will get a lot of stress since the stitches are further from the raw edge.
If I wanted the ladder stitch to be on the Right side so ribbon could be pulled thru the stitches? Would I just double fold the hem to the right side, and do everything else the same? Or have I totally missed something about the flat lock hem? This was easy to follow and a great vid, but I can confuse me sometimes.
Ma'am i want to know what is the articles or magzines name which you are holding in your hand and 3 thread flatlock is written. Plz tell me the name of magzine
I personally would not use this on the crotch seams of leggings - I just don't trust anything but the strongest stitching there. But I would on any other seam as long as the tension is exactly right, which, depending on your machine and specific fabric, can be tricky. So practice with scraps of the leggings fabric first to make sure you've got it set just right.
Exactly what I was looking for with not a lot of extra chat. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

Happy to help!
I googled "tutorial for flatlock stitching" and yours from 6 years ago was the first one that popped up 😀
Hope it's still helpful!
Wow! How easy is that! I have an old serger and it does not have this capability. Thank you for you clear, simple details in your instruction.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! I just got a Serger and this is a big help. More serger projects please!

Thank you so much! I've had the Babylock Imagine for many many years, since it came out, and didn't know how to do this! I will be trying it soon!
Glad to help! Love that machine :)
Thank you for another wonderful video.....like the baby lock serger with the air.
I love my Imagine!

No, you would have a really thick double seam if you did that. If you want a fake overstitch look you'd need to do the flat lock for the assembly.
Saw this on Pinterest. I then came here to see bigger version thank you very informational
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks, a great video for a beginner

So the wide 2 stitch flatlock looks the flattest, is it really the flattest option?
They're all the same amount of flatness, the difference is how much thread is covering the seam. I do think the 2 thread wide and the 3 thread (which is also wide) are more stable for seams that will get a lot of stress since the stitches are further from the raw edge.
How do you to the neck hole? That looks tricky
I basted the neckband on before doing the flatlocking
What is the main purpose of flatlock really? Its like and edging but its just flat?
It is a stretchy seam that keeps the fabric flat instead of creating a seam allowance that flaps around.
If I wanted the ladder stitch to be on the Right side so ribbon could be pulled thru the stitches? Would I just double fold the hem to the right side, and do everything else the same? Whichever side you want the ladder part to be on should be the side folded together.
How did you finish the neckline? Did you use the cover stitch for that?
Yes
would you adjust the seam allowance since you aren’t using the blade on the seams?
You might need to, it depends on your pattern
Wow.. Didn't know could turn the cutter function off in the overlocker.. Handy
Yes - useful for more than just this stitch!
Great video! Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Perfect..thank you
You're welcome!
is flatlock stitch the same as overlock stitch?
No. They are two different types of stitches, both sewn with a serger.
Wow!! Ill try this!
Have fun!

It's not a magazine, it is the instruction manual that came with my serger.
@@Mellysews ma'am may you share that instruction manual i will be very grateful.
Excellent tutorial! THANKYOU xx
Thanks for watching!
That fabric is gorgeous too, what was it do you remember?
It's a rayon blend knit.
great explanation, will try it with my new imagine machine ...
Have fun - I have the same machine!
hey! but what if i don’t want it to be flat? should i just leave as it is? isn’t it going to flatten by itself?
I don't understand your question. If you don't want a flat stitch, use a different stitch than this one.
Melly Sews sorry it was a little difficult to express myself as english is not my first language, i just found the answer but thanks for replying! :)
what machine is that??

THANK YOU!!
you're awesome !!
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant Thank you 😊

🤔Would you use this stitch to sew leggins? is it strong enough to not rip apart in the middle of a squat? 😂
I personally would not use this on the crotch seams of leggings - I just don't trust anything but the strongest stitching there. How was the collar stitched?
With a stretch stitch.
Melly Sews Thanks!
Very cool. I just watched another video with this same type of hem and she never mentioned turning off the KNIFE! That would have been a problem.
Yikes! That could turn out badly!
What kind of fabric are you sewing with in the video?
Rayon jersey ua-cam.com/video/582jqw0J1Vw/v-deo.html
