Better fix for leaking oil filter housing on many older Pentastar V6 Engines

- Introducing patented Dorman’s OE FIX™ solution for the notoriously leak-prone oil filter adaptor located in the intake valley on 3.2 and 3.6 Chrysler Pentastar V6 engines.
The factory adaptor is made of plastic, and often warps at the base and leaks, or sometimes seeps oil at the ultrasonically welded plugs. Sometimes even a simple oil change and filter replacement puts enough torque on the housings to make them crack.
This one-of-a-kind OE FIX adaptor is the second of two upgraded Dorman repair solutions for Pentastar V6 engines, each of which have slightly different components for different needs and fitments. Information about that part number can be found later in this description.
This new solution covers specified 2021-11 Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles, and Ram 2021-12 and later vehicles, and includes the gaskets, cooler, filter cap and filter. Read more details about 926-959 here: www.dormanprod...
The upgraded adaptor in this OE FIX is not made of flimsy plastic like the Pentastar design, but rather from rugged aluminum that’s precision-cast in Pennsylvania. No plastic plugs, either; ours are made of steel for even greater reliability. We include the late-style oil cooler as well as a new oil filter cap, and a late-style oil filter. The oil filter cap is bright orange to alert you or your mechanic in the future that your vehicle has been retrofitted, and includes a handy tag that explains the modification and lists a number of popular oil filter part numbers for easy cross-referencing.
This housing comes complete with new housing mounting hardware, instructions with torque specifications, manifold gaskets, and fresh mounting gaskets for the adapter.
This kit is engineered to help you repair many Pentastar-equipped vehicles correctly the first time and save your customers money by ending the cycle of repeated housing replacements.
Be sure to check out some of our other aluminum upgrade pieces for this motor, too, like our thermostat housing assembly and coolant crossover pipe to truly bulletproof your Pentastar.

Just had mine replaced in my 2011 Durango. The dealer did it and they have never used your product before and were totally impressed with the quality of the items in the box including the packaging. I'm so happy that you are building quality parts to replace the factory ones that failed. Thanks again, keep up the GREAT work.
Where you get the part from? Will this fit a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan?
@@Tumusica311 If it's a Pentastar V-6, it probably will. I got mine at Autozone.
@@nvthom Thank you!
Just got mine. Waiting on Baxter performance oil filter replacement kit with check valve before jeep goes to the shop. This is all within my abilities, but I am too old to keep wrenching on the jeep. Good video. Thank you
The problem was the rubber material used on the O-rings, not the plastic housing. How do I know this? I have a buddy working for FCA powertrain warranty department and they upgraded the material for these seals to eliminate this issue. Not a lot of people know this and they jump to the aluminum housing thinking that this was the root cause of the oil leak.
I I’m on my 3rd set of gaskets the biggest one one the bottom looks like it keeps melting and leaks, used the Dorman gaskets then felpro now the mopar is in it and starting to leak. Also on the 2nd Dorman cooler aassembly. About to switch back to OEM I feel like you guys need to work on machining the bottoms to make things smooth and level
Thank you for letting us know. I will forward your comments to our quality team.
I gotta say this is a welcome alternative. This looks to be a well thought-out, well executed direct replacement part. I plan on purchasing this for my '19 Cherokee w/3.2L in advance of any failure. Thanks, Dorman!
Now if you(Dorman) could make some aluminum thermostat housings to replace the equally prone to fail oem plastic t-stat housings.
Hi Bud, so glad we could help! Also to your new product idea... keep a lookout, we have something coming very soon!
So when we customers are being told that the Dorman is being discontinued, are they only referring to the 876? JEGS told me this and cancelled my 876 order a few weeks ago. They did not offer the 959 for sale.
The 959 seems to go in and out of stock for brief times, where the 876 might as well be made of unobtainium, seems that nobody has it.
Does this model use the update 14+ filter design?
Great question! Yes, it uses 14 and up oil filters.
Are you guys going to produce more? All I have left without you guys are Chinese parts that I don't know if they are worth it.😢
Hello! Good news! We are still producing those housings! We recommend calling your local auto parts store and ordering through them! Thank you!
When Upgrading To The Dorman Product Do I Have To Replace Or Can I Swap The Previous Coolant And Oil Sensors? Thanks
Hello, great question! You can reuse your existing sensors or if your sensors have failed you will want to replace them.
I ordered a new Dorman 926-959 kit which arrived packed and with parts shown in the video but there's no "Made in USA" stamp on the body as proudly described and as I expected. Dorman spokesperson, "I think my favorite part of these is that they're made in the USA right here in Pennsylvania." The Dorman label on the box I received says "Made in Malaysia."
Hello! I would like to assure you that regardless country of origin, these go through extensive engineering and both benefit from our lifetime limited warranty. All of our parts are engineered and rigorously tested here in the United States. These are manufactured in the U,S, and in Malaysia to keep up with high demand.

What is the Tourque on bolts to transfer cooler it’s self to body I heard 35inch pounds
Hi David, great question! We recommend 106 inch lbs as per the instructions of the 926-959. Please see link below. static.dormanproducts.com/document/926-959_instructions.pdf
Ya and what is the cost to replace cant be cheap
It would be great if that orange cap with sticker was available to us who already replaced our gen1 with the Dorman. Also, why not upgrade the cap to one made from aluminum? Since the plastic caps don't hold up, especially with the aluminum housing. If either are available, please let me know... Part # etc.
I ordered this Dorman product. It seems very well made. The product is stamped "Made in the USA." However, contrary to the advertisement pictures, the long and short bolts were not included with this part / kit. I emailed O'Reilly (the retailer) and they told me that the bolts are no longer included in the kit. I e-mailed Dorman and they shipped the missing bolts to me very quickly. See below. Thanks
Hi John, the bolts both long and short in our picture of the 926-959 are still included in that kit. Please email kscholl@dormanproducts.com with your issue and address, we can see if we have some available to ship out to you. Thanks!
@@DormanProducts Just got the bolts and amended my original post. Thanks a Million!!!!!!
I have a bad oil pressure sensor in my 2012 wrangler. I figured that since I have to rip everything apart, I’d replace the old assembly with a new 2014 unit so I bought one. Been sitting on it for a while. I literally just discovered this new aluminum assembly today so I’m going to try this instead. I already have a new Mopar oil pressure sensor so I’ll just get a new temperature sensor to install with it. After reading all of the nightmares with the OEM units failing multiple times, I only want to do this once so I’m gonna try the Dorman.
This is not a be all end all to the leaking....my aluminum housing was installed about a year ago and it is now leaking again. And I will say, if you or anyone else gets this product, inspect it well. The unit I received had all kinds of metal bits in it and shaving that needed to be de-burred or else they would of found their way into the engine soon or later...just a heads up.
@@h8tnlife thanks, I held off on using the aluminum housing and went with the oem Mopar. I read some people were having issues with the cooler to housing seals on the aluminum version. I’ll hold onto it just in case. I definitely don’t want to mess with this thing again though. What a pain!
@@redeemed2517 I had a leak after installing the aluminum housing the first time. Found that the used factory oil cooler itself had a slight warp to it....nothing with the actual dorman unit. When I removed it for inspection, I put a metal straight edge across the bottom mating surface, I could get a few thousands feeler guage in between. That allowed the figure 8 looking Oring to blow out. Now that they are offering the oil cooler with the aluminum housing so you don't need to reuse the factory piece in addition, it should be a win win.
@@h8tnlife that’s good to know. I thought about returning the Dorman unit but I think that I’m gonna hold onto it. I have 92k miles on the Jk so I went ahead and changed the plugs, coils and PCV valve… that thing was a pain to get to. Finished all that off with a transmission fluid and filter change as well as the t-case. Hopefully I’m done with maintenance for a while.
@@h8tnlife there are two issues for these upgrated Aluminum Housing for Pentastar 3.6L engine on market. one is the flateness is not good on the bottom of Housing and caused leaking issue. Second, it looks all die casting aluminum Housing has issue of metal bits or burr from machining especial for the inside passange. Obviously it's dangerous for your engine. But another gravity casting aluminum Housing is better quality and no metal bits or burr inside because no machining inside.
Is this still available? It seems to be out of stock almost everywhere.
Hello! We recommend calling your local auto parts store and ordering through them. Thank you!
I haven’t changed it out yet. I don’t think the Dorman is the problem,I think the gaskets/seals can’t handle the heat from these engines. Anything you can do to help will be appreciated. Thank you for responding I do appreciate it.
Yup, will be doing this, thank you!
A great replacement for the 3.6 engine, it should have come that way instead of the bottom being plastic over time it will crack.
I have changed this out in both my 2015 Chrysler T&C (45K miles) and my 2018 Dodge Journey Crossroad (10K). Both were done as preventative maintenance. Used Dorman Aluminum replacement part, and replace both the oil temp sender, and oil pressure sender while I had it all apart.
Len the fast talker.
its on backorder
I just bought a brand new Cherokee im tempted on replacing the housing with this so it never becomes an issue down the line. I like to take care of a common issues before they start.
I'm SURPRISED to see this video as i spoke with DOORMAN rep, This Product is NOT being produced anymore, can someone elaborate if this is politically motivated by FCA for DOORMAN not to manufacture this?? This is a great video, and i've seen several other video's on this great solution for Pentastar V6 Oil filter housing assembly, it is very Unfortunate that its NOT being manufactured any longer 😞
Hi Afshin, part #926-959 which is the housing with the oil cooler and filter as an entire assembly is available!
I have a 2019 Jeep Wrangle JL 3.6?L , do you know if Dodge/Jeep improved on the older Pentastar version's or did they keep everything plastic again? Do you have a kit for the newer engines 2018-23?
Thanks.
Hi William, part #926-959 fits Chrysler 2022-11, Dodge 2022-11, Jeep 2022-11, Ram 2022-12, Volkswagen 2014-11. Check it out here! www.dormanproducts.com/p-139011-926-959.aspx?year=2018&origin=keyword
What's tough is to see where these leaks are from. Lower manifold is in the way. Some sort of borescope may work.
Any way to get the sticker for the cap? I have a 2011 and already replaced mine with your earlier product. I know it uses the later model filter, but mechanics don't.
Hi Craig, unfortunately we do not offer the sticker separately as it is already attached to the cap. I will let our product team know of your suggestion, thank you!
Big question!!! Does this kit come with the sensors as well or should I order separately?
Hello! Unfortunately, our kit does not come with sensors, we do have them available separately, on our web link for the housing we have them as related items. www.dormanproducts.com/p-139011-926-959.aspx?origin=keyword
Hi Dorman, 2014 Wrangler Rubicon, I need to replace the oil filter housing. Will this kit be the only thing I need?
Yes! That is a complete kit, just transfer over your sensors and it is good to go!
So the 926-876 won’t fit a 3.6L in a 2013 ram, even with Amazon saying it will? If it does not fit then what are the differences between the two?
Hi Riley, great question! 926-876 is the housing itself, it will not work on 2011-2013 year applications because of how the oil cooler that mounts to the housing is different in those years. We have come out with the 926-959 kit that includes the oil cooler housing and other pieces so it can be retrofitted into the 2011-2013 applications as a complete kit. We recommend you purchase the 926-959.
I have a 2015 wrangler and it was leaking, it originally had the plastic factory unit and I replaced it with yours a few days back, I didn’t see oil sitting in the oil well which is a problem I noticed with the plastic one however I did notice that oil was still leaking under the car. Is there possibly still a leak? Or could it just be excess oil from the previous unit?
Hi Alex, if there's standing oil that wasn't cleaned up with the repair, at some point it will slosh around and drip to the ground. So we would recommend to clean up as much as you can and also check the oil level in the vehicle. If it keeps dripping after you clean up, check the oil level again and see if it has lowered. This may be the only way to determine if there's a leak.
I heard that this part has been discontinued by Dorman. Is this true? If so, any idea why it is discontinued?
Hi Nick, yes, but part #926-959 which is the housing with the oil cooler and filter as an entire assembly is available.
Don’t jump the gun. I replaced the polymer with a Dorman. It did just like the polymer and started leaking after 5 months Come up with a real solution that fixes this permanently. I am not satisfied with this Dorman
Hello, would you like us to send gaskets or have you warrantied the part through your retailer already?
The problem was the rubber material used on the O-rings, not the plastic housing. How do I know this? I have a buddy working for FCA powertrain warranty department and they upgraded the material for these seals to eliminate this issue. Not a lot of people know this and they jump to the aluminum housing thinking that this was the root cause of the oil leak.
Thanks for making this.
I just bought this and the o-rings do not fit all the way in correctly. When I put it on the underside of the housing unit they stretch and make kind of a triangle shape. Does anyone else have this problem/recommendations?
Hi Travis, the gaskets will fit into the place on the housing and then when bolted and torqued down they make a good seal.
Yeah and it leaked like 4.5 quarts in about 30 seconds. Did you ever get yours running right?
How about the 90 psi oil pressure at cold start ? Does that contribute to a leak in the base gaskets ?
Oil pressure is usually higher at a cold start. I live in Canada so circumstances are a bit different.
What is the part number for that cooler and gasket set? Not the actual housing...I've replaced my oil cooler with your aluminum housing about a year ago and now its leaking again 🤦🏻♂️ I have no plans on buying another housing. It has to be the seals blowing out.
Hello, great question! Unfortunately we do not have a part # for a gasket set or cooler sold separately. I will let the product team know of your new product idea.
@@DormanProducts that would be great for those of us that have already purchased the first version 926-876 of this aluminum housing. As we had to reuse our factory cooler. I've found a couple of the factory flat plate coolers that were warped. Didn't find this out until after I had already reused that part on your 926-876 to complete the installation using your provided torque specifications and instructions. Only to last a few miles before it started leaking again. After tear down and inspection, the only problem I could find was when I would lay a flat metal ruler diagonally flat matting surface, I had a slight "rock" of the ruler. I forget now, but it was a few thousands feeler gauge I could get under the one end or the other. Definitely slightly warped. And of course, this allowed one of the 2 figure 8 looking o-rings to blow out. Would be most unfortunate if that part available isn't made available. Guarantee I'm not the only one finding this issue.
Just wondering ..if i can use the Baxter Performance cartridge which I have on now.. in my oil cooler.. thanks
Good question! if your current oil filter cartridge fits your OE housing, then it will also fit our aluminum housing!
