Great video. Quick tip. Line up on your row, spin the implement, drop, drive, lift then turn and line up on your next row. Repeat. Keep up the interesting content.
I just got to hand it to you Joe you're a real smart kid great videos I've been watching you for at least five years now keep up the good work I'm 54 years old and you impressed me
Amazing, the variety of your channel, seemingly you'd tackle anything. Thanks for the learning moments. Mini-Tractor, mini-dozer, mini-bikes, it's a small world after all.
Very cool. I'm sold on the use of these small tractors for garden and home use. I have 2 small tractors. One is a 1965 Sears continental 10 and the other is a 1966 Sears continental 12. The 1965 has been heavily modified and raised. The 1966 is somewhat stock with the exception of a newer, smaller engine. I have a good number of attachments for both, but no tiller. That's an option I wouldn't mind having. This summer I'll be putting on hydraulics on the 1965 (changed the engine to a 18hp twin cylinder for more power). Future plans will be to build a bucket for this tractor.
nice machines,I got a case 446 with hydraulic drive and a snow plow, just got a simplicity model w walk behind tractor that id like to restore and put a furrow plow on
Great find! My uncle worked for Briggs and scrap iron for 30+ years. Those engines were not designed to rev like that. they run at a moderate speed then when load is required they rev up using the governor. running them at high speed causes them to blow up, but you have no doubt found that out already. What a cool tractor, so simple, would be so much fun to restore.
I learn so much from your videos. Spark, fuel, compression are the three key words. But I think its your dedication to finish the job is what I like best.
That's a hell of a Carb there... runs with a clogged needle line and a wasp in it! Nice Machine! Fun to get Groceries with and just puttn around.. even without having Grass
It’s amazing that you are a young man and you know a lot about what you’re doing good on you maté nice to see people like you a young man showing how it’s done thanks again.
Very nice acquisition! That tractor was made to last a lifetime & then some. I remember helping my grandfather till his gardens with a walk behind. It would cut the earth maybe 4 to 6 inches deep. Probably closer to 4, I was a kid. I was interested in the worms & grubs that would be churned up so I could use them for fishing in the pond. Great memories! I’d suggest making a shroud for the front pulleys & belt because if you are planning on running through weeds or brush they are likely to get caught. I noticed this almost happened with a small branch as you were test driving. 🚜
That thing is pretty awesome. My grandparents had a house on a farm and for the home area they kept a Simplicity mower. It had 3 point on the back and a PTO on the front for a plow or whatever. That thing was NOT a riding mower, it technically was a small home tractor. It was kind of like that, maybe a little smaller, but man that thing was SO cool. I learned to operate a tractor on that thing as a little kid. Same idea as a full sized big farm tractor just in a personal sized package. I was SO sad when they let that go. I really really wanted to keep it but I was still a kid and it was shot due to getting damp and it was old and beat up. Oh well.
One of my great uncles had a Jim Dandy like that, he had a large garden. He also had a trout pound that you could pay to fish. He used it as a mower, tiller like that and also had a plow blade and chains for tires.
Nice machine. My 1st tractor was a 1948, 8hp Economy. Came with a house I bought. Had all the attachments, plow, disk, drag, mower, snow plow and cultivator. No electric start, just rope.
How did the wasp get in there to begin with. Nice find also. Love seeing how these old tractors were made so reliable way back then instead of the throw away stuff of today.
Another unique buy that is really cool brother! It's really awesome that it has the attachments with it. I would have bought too! The tiller works great! I'm surprised it has no highth adjustment. If it were mine, I'd likely restore it even if it has a replacement engine and use it regularly just for the old-school cool factor! Another awesome find, in my opinion! Good stuff buddy!!
Might be rare where you're from but I see those little garden tactors quite a bit. I'm not too familiar with Jim Dandy but it looks like an off brand Allis which I know fairly well and I'm sure you could use those attachments on this little tractor on it as well, as long as it meets the HP requirements. 1000% sure that's a different engine 90% of them from 1940 to 1970 came with Wisconsin's. That little arm on the right side of the engine with 2 springs on it is the governor and unless you want to replace that engine I'd hook that up ASAP, may have to make a connection with a coat hanger that goes from the throttle to one of those holes on the governor bar, that will regulate the RPM so it doesn't float the valves. In an old engine like that you don't want more than 3500 RPM..ask me how I know lol. I would also replace that front pully for the PTO with something else or you could run the risk of destroying every belt you put on, that pully is meant for pull starting the engine, there are other pulleys that do have the notches to keep the pull start but you can also wire wheel the grooves to make them fairly smooth, I've had that issue on a 1943 model..belt failed at high RPM and destroyed the grill and PTO. Those PTOs are not cheap to replace andor rebuild. Side note..I'm giving you my best advice on how to work on these old machines, in no way am I TELLING you, I've been watching you for a while now and I don't agree how you do certain things but everyone works on things differently and at their own pace. I see there are plenty that TELL you what you should do and I don't care to add to them. I will say there are better places to get the information you need for most of the machines you have/buy. I would not trust the comments THAT much lol. Just some friendly advice.
I used to have a 1950 year model Sears and Roebuck garden tractor with a large Briggs and Stratton engine. It was a 25 h.p., and the generator was also the starter like your tractor. I didn't have a tiller for mine but I had a tandem disc,2 bottom mold board,2 different cultivators, and the mower.
Amazing find. Although a little rough around the edges like many of us when we get old. People often think Go Big Or Go Home, when sometimes good things come in small packages
This thing look's like two big tractor's had a baby. Only thing is I think the mom and dad tractor's were cousin's. When he drive's by people say "Bless his heart" and wave kindly. Still interesting find. I hope the quad's and dirtbike's don't make fun of him.
Got a 1971 Power King with a Kohler K321 14hp one lunger. Came with my house in 1979. Needed restoration which I did in 1980 using OEM parts on the engine and tractor. Been using it ever since for plowing near Buffalo, NY and mowing my 5 acre yard. Rebuilt the 48" 3 blade mower deck using the original arbors, just replaced the bearings, and put in fresh grease. Grease it once a year. Also has the cart which needed some TLC. Great Machine! Can't beat that Kohler engine. Freaken' bulletproof.
Awesome! Those things are so neat. See if you can sort out how to get that governor set and hooked up. Those old Briggs connecting rods like to see daylight if the turn too many rpms! Finding some cool stuff these days.
The most rare item on that machine is the gear reduction box, that was sold as an accessory that goes behind the transmission. I've owned over 40 Economy tractors and only ever had 1 reduction box.
I've been binge watching this channel lately. The thing that really bothers me about this talented guy is that EVERY time he picks up an adjustable wrench....he uses it backwards. You NEVER pull against the moveable jaw on an adjustable wrench. When you do that, you are spreading the jaws apart and encouraging the wrench to open up and round off the corners of the fastener. I can't believe how many folks don't know this. And it's the same for slip-joint pliers and vise grips. They are also made to be used only one direction.
Good idea to clean and re-gap the points. Also check the rear wheel reduction gear cases r and left, this is an all gear drive train. Please get the specs on the governor spring adjustment before it is too late. Very tough machines.
Very cool the thing on top of the carb is a govener (L shaped thing with an adjustment screw. I just picked up my dad's 650 Bolens 1965 vintage love the old heavy duty garden tractors from the past.
Was gonna type same thing. Over revving way to much. 60+ year old motor won't take much of that before she blows. Change those gear oils to. Wonder who else was yelling don't pry that float bowl off without pulling that needle and tube. Lol.noticed that motorcycle ain't buried in that sand anymore? Lol. G uses that guy decided not to farm his land again. He said he was.
I love the front of that thing. 42:18 The lights look like eyes then the hole is either a nose or mouth, with that spinning thing underneath it.. Kinda funny that it has headlights. Are people out at night doing that kind of work? I guess so.
The way to make these machines work is with a few passes, digging a bit deeper with each pass. By the time you've made your third or fourth pass, you'd have a good six inches or more of a finely tilled loam ready for just about any crop you'd care to plant. Add the cultivators and these little tractors can stay in the field until the plants are a good 12-16" tall, knocking weeds down to cut down competition for light and nutrients. By the time they're that tall, your crops pretty much own the field and even though the tractor can't do much more for them, it's done a lot.
Rotella T4 15W-40 is the best universal oil to keep around. It's even wet clutch certified, so it will work in ATVs, motorcycles, tractors.. anything that doesn't need the modern thinner oils.
Nice find, sounds like the Governor isn't working properly, those old engines maxed out about 3,000rpm ran about 2,500-2,800 rpm, the thing under the seat is a tool tray, alot of them old Garden rigs just like full size vintage tractors had tool trays near the driveway the tractor is over revving.
Agreed. Always Use the lowest gear for tilling And even then you may have to feather clutch to go slower. Especially when breaking new ground. And tiller should be able to go deeper to bring that deep soil to the surface Cool tractor though
The tiller should bury nearly to the center shaft in the teeth. And you should be barely making forward progress. Like it should barely be moving forward, very slowly. Definitely a cool find. Those motors are bulletproof
I had one with a 14 HO Kohler it had hydraulic lift. It’s a 3 speed forward . My kids use to love driving it when they were young. Top speed 7 mph. I really enjoyed it.
@the tractor channel I see I have only seen one at an antique tractor show in Wauseon Ohio that one had a Kohler it was a nicely restored by the second owner thanks for the information.
The tiller needs to be leveled and the tines need sharpening. Does it not have a lower gear for travel? As it is it will take several passes to till deep enough to plant anything. Great find and cool that it just took a little work to make it run. Like others have said, I would look at restoration, it is a very cool machine.
That is really cool, Growing up my buddy got an old speedex and a single front wheel panzer tractor, oh the fun a couple kids had taking them everywhere there wasn't a trail and made one.
Thats a great vintage machine, lovely little plough. Don't abuse it,making a trail track. Restore it,and get a bigger one that suits your needs. You'll get your money back. You have a plan for for your land. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet. people know what are good at and you know what you are good at😉
That is a cool tractor. Be very handy to have that tiller. That's something you can use once or twice a year, leave it outside and it will start every time.
I work on small engine equipment when not at my main job. Alot of engines run with out air filters but they give a bit of suction to carbs. Ive had many run ragged and smooths out when you put air filter back in place.
I had an Uncle, a retired farmer, who kept a two acre truck garden for a hobby, and sold his produce at a roadside stand He would have been tickled to have the Jim Dandy.
Way cool I have a 1974, with a kohler, 3 speed, has hydraulics to raise and lower deck and rear lift arms. Has a 60 inch deck, with blades that run the opposite, not sure about that guy. Yep real cool man. Good find, have fun with it. I learned the hard way with the spindles, done draw the nuts down to tight as they are tapered bearings. You betcha seized the thing up ruined shafts.
Nice find, I think I would have the tiller spinning in the opposite direction, running much slower, and adjusting the height on each run. I would also drive much slower, stop the tiller at the end of each run, turn and then start again.
man if i had a tractor that small that would fit through the gate in my fence id never use my walk behind tiller again, and id plant a bigger garden,, i love that old machinery
I really want an old Ford 8N or Jubilee but then again I think that something with 4x4, diesel, and a belly mower deck would be more practical for my place. P.F. Engineering has some nice plans for a front loader and mini backhoe that can be adapted for small garden tractors and I'd like that as well.
Cool machine! I've seen many of those at the antique tractor and engine shows - some people collect those (like the Struck dozer). I don't think the governor is working as it should - it may be reaching higher RPM's than it was designed for. It may be easier to control the speed and tiller RPM with the governor working. I like the blank look on the front - reminds me of the cartoon movie "Robots".
Great video. Quick tip. Line up on your row, spin the implement, drop, drive, lift then turn and line up on your next row. Repeat. Keep up the interesting content.

It’s amazing that you are a young man and you know a lot about what you’re doing good on you maté nice to see people like you a young man showing how it’s done thanks again.
Tilling is normally done at a very slow ground speed. Low gear is your friend.
Tiller needs to go a littler lower it looks like
Well, a pto driven with rubber belts you cant expect it to do very much haha. Atleast it wont break itself. Quite a neat thing.
Speed tilling.😂 There should be a creeper gear, I would think.
These were made to only be used with a dual transmission tractor. One transmission in low gear and the other in 1st
Reminds me of the contraptions my grandpa had us using on his land in Plainfield. Awesome!
Very nice acquisition! That tractor was made to last a lifetime & then some. I remember helping my grandfather till his gardens with a walk behind. It would cut the earth maybe 4 to 6 inches deep. I've been watching quite a few of your videos. You remind me of a younger me. Always fixing something. Way to go man 👍
Joe lowest gear high throttle for tilling. Light soil engagement of 2-4 inches in hard soil. 3-4 passes over entire garden plot.
Joe you took "Go play in the sand" to a whole new level. Only quality back then which is why you can resuurect that mighty mite.
One of my great uncles had a Jim Dandy like that, he had a large garden. He also had a trout pound that you could pay to fish. He used it as a mower, tiller like that and also had a plow blade and chains for tires.
That thing is beyond cool! I think you should give it a full restoration.
Man your branching out into all kinds of neat stuff, I’m like you, when others see junk, we see a promising piece of equipment 🐾✌️🇺🇸
My favorite time of the day!!! New video!!
That running motor reminds me of the David Bradley walk behind tractor my Dad used to have when I was a kid. I'm 60 now. Thanks for the good memory. 😊
My dad bought a Jim Dandy in 1973 . My mom sold it while she sold her house and the guy that owns her house still has it and it runs just fine

Very Nice Find Brother, Love them Old Lawn & Garden Tractors
My dogs have asked if you could get a new jump pack that doesn't beep. It's scares them. Lol! 😂
My dog runs every time hearing the beep as well, its my time then to eat some chips in peace.

Jim Dandy, AKA Country Squire, AKA Power King, great tractors!
Most likely had a Kohler or tecumseh engine originally.

I restored my childhood 1958 gasoline driven Reel Lawn Mower. I can picture in my mind your new tractor project restored to its previous glory.
The most rare item on that machine is the gear reduction box, that was sold as an accessory that goes behind the transmission. I've owned over 40 Economy tractors and only ever had 1 reduction box.
I was waiting on this vid! I couldnt stop looking at at it in the last vid! I also have a powerking! Great lil tractors! Keep er around!
I love the narrative thought process, I learn a ton from your videos
You come across some very unique items that's why I watch this channel and its easy to follow the repairs.
Wow, cool old tractor. Blows away any of the modern junk being built.

Cute little thing. Nice job getting it going. Signs of a mouse nest, governor needs work, slow way down when tilling.
Very cool the thing on top of the carb is a govener (L shaped thing with an adjustment screw. I just picked up my dad's 650 Bolens 1965 vintage love the old heavy duty garden tractors from the past.
the oil is supposed to be SAE 30. You better fix that governor or you will have a blown up engine to fix.

SAE 30 for summer use only or 10W-30 for both summer and winter use.
@@trdtommy10W30 has detergents that you don't want in an old engine
@@corydunaway That depends on the brand of oil.

I had one with a 14 HO Kohler it had hydraulic lift. It’s a 3 speed forward . My kids use to love driving it when they were young. Top speed 7 mph. I really enjoyed it.
Another classic, great find.
Just put a spring tensioner pully on the front belt ! Easy to make I'm sure you can do it! Great job on the old girl!
Your correct about the engine not being the original these came with a Kohler engine.
K15
Yea, definitely not the original. It really sucks they destroyed the hood
It varied. 15hp would be In a big powerking. These would probably use a 12 hp.
@@gman77gas k15 is a new kohler. That's not the model it should have in it. Idk what model this tractor is, but I'd guess it uses a 12hp (k301)

Nice old tractor, good job getting it running, like your channel and various repairs on different things 👍👍
Nice find, I think I would have the tiller spinning in the opposite direction, running much slower, and adjusting the height on each run.
I would also drive much slower, stop the tiller at the end of each run, turn and then start again.
I was going to say that ad well. With the tines spinning that direction, I bet it would till better in reverse.
The hovercraft never seems to move 😂. Is it part of the decor now lol. Great video 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
man if i had a tractor that small that would fit through the gate in my fence id never use my walk behind tiller again, and id plant a bigger garden,, i love that old machinery
Just found this on marketplace, switched to UA-cam and the first video was this tractor. Got to see it work before I buy it
Great little tractor. Very cool!! I prefer a 4 wheeler for my home use, but I can see a small tractor too...especially if it has forks.
Your over reving the motor, they only run at 3350 rpm for max. Also pick a lower gear for tilling so it has a chance to turn some ground.
Dual transmissions would make it till better. Better gear options. Mine has dual trans and that thing is as slow as a snail in the lowest gears
if you hook up the governor or adjust it ---the thing will run better and will not die down looks like a fun thing great find
I've got a powerking 1216, with the dual transmissions they were a little workhorse. A true backyard garden tractor.
I saw that in the last video of the 4 wheeler and was wondering what you found
I would recommend adjusting the govenor as the engine seems to run away .May have to replace if adjusting doesnt work .
🤠 Farmer Joe! I love it! Keep up the great work!
I really want an old Ford 8N or Jubilee but then again I think that something with 4x4, diesel, and a belly mower deck would be more practical for my place. P.F. Engineering has some nice plans for a front loader and mini backhoe that can be adapted for small garden tractors and I'd like that as well.
love that tractor. give us more vids of it.
You'll get a lot of use out of that. It runs strong. Was hoping to see the mower in use.
Cool find, thumbs up, i have a few of those, all get to them in spare time
18:20 all the stored food of the mice flying out of the shroud
Cool machine! I've seen many of those at the antique tractor and engine shows - some people collect those (like the Struck dozer). I don't think the governor is working as it should - it may be reaching higher RPM's than it was designed for. It may be easier to control the speed and tiller RPM with the governor working. I like the blank look on the front - reminds me of the cartoon movie "Robots".
