We had a 72 Cub Lo-Boy 154 when I was growing up in the 80s, we used it for all sorts of things including building a drive way out of the hill at our camp in the Adirondacks. I used it quite a bit with the loader to plow during the winter but we used it all year round. It was incredibly reliable in the winter. We had the mower deck and the snowblower; however the mower was too big for our property (tight spaces and trees) and the snowblower didn't handle the snow all that great so we stuck with the loader and bucket. The only thing it struggled with was clutch plates, our tractor went through numerous clutches over the year and we even welded it in place at one point. It still worked until my dad got too old to operate it and I couldn't use it once I married, then had kids (for snow I needed 4WD as our driveway is too steep and I have since found a Kubota B2650 with a pusher for the winters). Eventually the old Lo-Boy needed a wiring harness, we bought it but then sold the tractor to someone who had big plans for it. The funny thing, it had very specific modifications on it my dad did over the years, so I see it from time to time changing hands on Marketplace. Unfortunately the last picture I saw of it, it was looking very tired and in need of love... somewhere near Mt Snow in Vermont. Still a great tractor and I have many fond memories.

Enjoy the family and the tractor. A tractor is just as useful as the washing machine. I have had many. I now have three. A JD 4720, a JD 3320, and a 1969 Bucyrus Erie Dynahoe 190 backhoe. With a 3 cylinder 2cycle Detroit diesel. It screams!

That took me back to the early 80s when I was kid. We had that tractor to cut 2 acres in NW Ohio and I loved using it. It seemed so big at the time and I've not seen one since until now. That was also the first time I've heard you mention kids :-) Congrats on that, she will love the pumpkin patch!

Fantastic find. You have found a great tractor, they were one of the best back in the day. I would not wait to go pick up the snow blower, it may not be there when you go back to get it. I would go back and get it now and store it on your land so you will be sure to have it come this winter. Take good care of this gem.

What a fine specimen of a machine! You said you feel like you paid top dollar at $2900, but from what I'm seeing that sounds like a steal to me! A great running tractor and 3 working attachments! And did you see how smooth that tiller ran with just one pass! Yeah, that whole deal was definitely a heck of a find! Plus it's just a really cool looking tractor.

I would keep buying older tractors if I was you. I have watched enough farming videos on UA-cam. The complaints about the newer tractors overheating and i'm not talking about $30,000 tractor, well above that price. You have a lot of skill, your small engine repairs, will help you understand the basic for larger engine. I also watch videos of similar and helped me a great deal to repair my own vehicles! - May I suggest 'Diesel Creek' for future reference

When I was kid my father was the manager of a private swim club during the summer from my earliest memory well into my college years. He was a teacher at a technical school during the rest of the year where he taught drafting, blue printing, cad design, architecture and engineering classes. He was there for 40 years. At a young age I became the maintenance person at the pool and grounds keeper at the pool. I spent a lot of seat time in a Cub Lo-Boy just like this one. As kid of 12 or 13 I thought I could rule the world on that thing. In the winter we would take down dead trees on the grounds and drag them out of the woods to be cut and split for firewood. It served for many years and we wore it out. Then the club bought the newer model which was red and had a lot more power. Lot's of great memories with my dad.

Glad to see your putting the land to good use. Just remember that if you intend to grow gardens long term that you will need to replenish the soil with good nutrients every year. I would also recommend you work on soil enrichment along your rows for your planned apple trees as it will be important in the long run to keep them growing and healthy. Far too many people think they can just grow and grow and grow without ever enriching the soils they are growing in and they get frustrated when things stop growing well. I would recommend you start enriching all the soil where you plan to plant apple trees now, specially in the areas you plan to plant next year so you have the best results possible.

👍👍👍👍👍🤜🤛 your tiller is not gonna have any problems. Doing a great job because you gotta remember you’re running on soil that’s been till the year after year after year it doesn’t have any heavy roots. It doesn’t have any big stones or boulders. It’s already been chilled. You’re just breaking it upwith your tiller so it’s gonna go through it easily like butter you were running over soil you would probably have some problems, but it would still be easy for that not that difficult but you would do a little bit of problems.

Also wanted to point out. the only apple varieties that I would plant is Zestar and Honeycrisp. Zester are the best apples on earth by far. They are fairly new. Also I know you won't do this anyway, but know that you have to plant more than 1 apple tree in an area. The more you plant the better (giving space) They need each other to produce apples. Also make sure you don't do what 90% of people do and plant your Pumpkins too close together, they spread 10' this way and that. Keep that in mind. I would also if you don't have good enough drainage in your soil they will get stem rot, so depending on the soil you may want to amend with sand. Corn doesn't really root deep and doesn't really require a deep till, but it does require leaving enough space between your rows so you can bring a mower or something through and chop down the weeds.... You know what really does good in Sandy Soil that may not get a lot of Rain..> Watermelon... Watermelon is a desert plant that doesn't like a lot of water oddly enough.
(Obviously as usual I comment away before I actually watch the whole video, but I do watch the whole video... So... There is that.

What a fantastic find. I think it was worth the money you spent. Runs great as well.
The Three Sisters of Native American lore: corn, beans, and squash. The corn acts as the trellis, the beans climb the corn, and add nitrogen to the soil, the squash provides ground cover. They were grown together, mutually beneficial, and also happen to taste great together.

Equipment might not be as fun as dirt bikes and wheelers but it’s a necessary thing if you’re gonna live out in the country. I bought a 1987 John Deere skid loader about 15 years ago and that old devil has been about the best investment I’ve ever made. I use it for everything from moving snow and cutting wood to dirt work and everything in between. Old stuff is just simple and fixable 👍

I just found this channel recently and yes no swearing and really motivated guy a real inspiration for me 👍 it's like me years ago so it helps me realize what optimism can do. I wish to learn from someone like this. He can be my friend anytime. My neighbor etc. Congrats on the family bro please be careful riding motorcycles from now on I swear the one where the sprocket came off. Take it easy Joe your awsome brother 🇨🇦💪
