    I personally recommend heating pvc a little bit (those thicker ones like 5mm+) when cutting, its makes it a lot easier. You can cut it then with razor blade like butter, but dont heat it too much cuz you can messup the edges, but when you find the way to heat it enough it can save you lots of time and you wont be so exhausted after sawing it

    Keep in mind you should have a mask on while heating sintra type materials it gives off a formaldehyde i think also a hf acid fumes in case you dont know

      I totally get that. I’m personally only 19, and I wanted to be in the Merch a couple years ago when I built my first mando costume, but I saw all the rules and realized they had more rules than the prop master for ESB. I do think it’s great that most of the resources are free, though, since it means that I can use those resources without actually being a merc, but I don’t have to be a merc to make more mando armor or to go to a con with it.

      @@danielmcbride6413 Exactly. I have a heavy infantry suit in EVA that looks extremely good. (At least, in my opinion) and I'll be damned if I let anyone tell me it's trash because it doesn't meet the arbitrary standards set forth by a club.

    For all those who are about to make their first PVC armor will need to use a hand saw with a greater number of teeth, so that it does not tear the PVC

    I’m actually a printmaking artist, and have used the same material in the past for relief blocks. You could get a Power Grip carving set (from Japan) and use the v gouge to partially score the creases where you want those sharp edges folded over. Maybe that would help?

    What size were the elbow pvc tubes?

    • @MrDrachnag
      @MrDrachnag 2 роки тому

      I did some research and - at least in Germany, where i am based - the best results i got were from elbow pvc tubes for sewage. For the size i measured my shoulder diameter roughly with a ruler and the two viable options seem to be 120mm (roughly 5 inches) and 160 mm (roughly 6 inches). Cost lies at around 12 to 15 €/$ per elbow pipe. Judging on WeldingGeeks hands i reckon its closer to the 160mm/6 inches than to 120mm but i could be off by some degree.

    Look into starboard, its going to more similar to a wood sheet but its hard plastic that can be heated and bent

    All joking aside with my last comment, this is going to be incredibly helpful. I've been trying the figure out a good tactic to do the armor chamfers and create that sharp look for the chestplate. I'm working on cutting out the pieces of a template I designed so I'm pretty excited! Looking forward to more of this miniseries, it's the exact kind of build series I've been hoping for on a post-imperial kit!

    Easiest way to cut PVC is to heat it then use a knife. Clean cuts, no powder and mess, you can get most of the cuts close to finished dimensions from my experience

    I will say an angle grinder makes quick work of pvc. However the dust gets EVERYWHERE and rushing it will cause gnargly overcuts. The plate i was able to make took one hell of a beating though.

      Print them out 1x1 or 100% cut them out tape them on to see how they scale to your body if you need them bigger try 110% if you want them smaller 90% and adjust the % from there until you are happy with the size
