I grew up in the same community that Imam Siraj Wahhaj has referenced in this Khutbah and quite frankly I feel misguided. Now that I'm approaching almost 50 years of age I have to reform myself by way of what Islam is less of the social construct. I discovered that I am not African American ( a misnomer) while in this process I must now trust in the present. I'm still dealing with the dysfunction of it all because my father recently told me that he is still nation of Islam and it only gets worse...Astafallah! I'm doing my best to hang on to my belief in Allah...and I feel as though I'm hanging on a string.....

What’s happened was that after imam siraj, all praise and respect, became radicalized by the Salafi Wahhabism of the Saudi clerics. Sharia law for all, ultra conservative when WD was pushing a tolerant progressive Islam. The Islam I subscribe to.

Out of curiosity, what are the differences between the "Qur'an and Sunnah" and the community that Imam Warith Deen Mohammed led? As I understand it, he basically dissolved the Nation of Islam upon succeeding his father, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad?
What was he teaching that was different than Sunni Islam, which is what Imam Siraj Wahhaj refers to as the Qur'an and Sunnah?

Some things, probably minor things, are different. But that was the process of assimilation. But we have to agree on one thing. Out of Fard Muhammad, Elijah Muhammad, Warith Deen Muhammad, and Louis Farrakhan, Imam Warith Deen Muhammad is the only that resembles the mainstream Sunni Islam as he realigned the organization to be more "Islam"
Imam Warith Deen Muhammad, may Allah forgive him of his sins and grant him Paradise, brought his followers to correct Islam. The Faith of Islam as practiced by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). However, he did not accept the culture of Arabs as a part of Islam. Masjids where women can't be seen. No veils. No long garbs like we're in the desert. In fact, Warith Deen wore a suit with a kuffee (Islam does not forbid modest American dress). We had just come out of Christianity where we had a white Jew as a God over us. His father, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, REVERSED this DIVINE WHITE thinking in the minds of black Americans. Why would we come into the fold of Islam but dress like we are from Saudi or Pakistan? I truly believe that many of the Imams in his following that left wanted to ADOPT the culture of Saudi and other places. These Imams leave DETROIT and CHICAGO, study amongst Arabs, and come back with Arab accents. If they wanted to go that route, he did not forbid it. However, Americans love freedom (your God given right to make a choice) and if you oppress believers in the Masjid under the guise of Islam, there will be division. Besides, THE BEST DRESS IS TAKWA (Al Quran KITABULLAH).
@@hassanmuhammad2799 - That makes a lot of sense. Often times, two extremes end up in the middle over time. So you've got the white Jesus, then to the Asiatic Black man being god (with W.D. Fard being the supreme God/Allah over all of them.) Then Imam Warith Deen Mohammed succeeds his father, and dissolves the NOI into "Al-Islam" of the Prophet Muhammad of Arabia.
I'm not Black, so I can't speak on those experiences, but I know a little about the expectations from some Arabs that all Muslims should adopt their ways, especially converts (and those whom they assume are converts.)
A friend of mine, who passed away last year (may God forgive his sins and grant him Paradise) was raised as a Sunni Muslim, but his family switched over to the NOI because they experienced a lot of racism from the main Sunni mosque in town. I think they joined the NOI just to get away from the hatred, because their beliefs were pretty much the same, and didn't reflect NOI doctrine.
There are plenty of NOI beliefs and practices that contradicts the mainstream Sunni or even Shiite Islam. The main ones are:
1. Allah came into the person of WD Fard.
2. Denial of Afterlife
3. Not observing Ramadan Fasting.
4. Superiority of the Black Race
5. Use of Bible in tandem with Quran in their sermons and lectures.
6. Not doing the Solat as prescribed in the Hadiths.
7. The creation myth of Yakub.
8. Denial of legitimate military jihad.
9. Continuation of the role of God Messenger/Prophets.
10. The legitimacy of Elijah Muhammad claim as a Messenger.
And the list goes on, Imam WD Muhammad started to shift NOI teachings towards Sunni doctrines, some NOI members weren't too happy, Louis Farrakhan resurrected the old NOI along with their old teachings..
What stumps me though, why the heck did some Arabs went on and associated with him and his movement knowing full well it will cause Fitna... God knows..

These are very small time compared to Elijah Muhammad and Master Fard Muhammad. They have done NOTHING for people..
No brother. He taught against the Qur'an and sunnah. Many cults have done this. And prophecy ended with Muhammad salallaho alaihi wasallam. There is no prophet or anything anyone that can directly communicate with allah . Only thing we have is the Qur'an and sunnah!

the Nation of Islam knows that the family of God can be only one family ....He left out too many details for this to be a complete lesson. He left one family of God to go to another family of the same god. He did this because of the growing cultural ritual influences that he learned from them of which the prophet left behind, he saw the truth of the Islamic awareness. But he did not leave because of Matters of tawheed. And if he did, it was only due to a lack of understanding of tawheed.

Imam WD Muhammad was not Nation of Islam rather he changed that organisation after being invited to lead it. Farrakhan resuscitated NOI after leaving the reformed former NOI

Your leader was a Muslim, but he said a lot things that were wrong and he never corrected them. Remember that he said that certain events that took place in the Quran didn't happen like that but that they theu were symbolic. Some of these things were as follows,
The flood of Nuh,
The parting of the red sea,
Bring the murdered yahood back to life bay touching his body with some of the sacrificial meet. The Qur'an says that these things physically took place. In in the arabic says or points toward this being symbolic. He was your leader but I know teenagers whom had more knowledge than he did and their knowledge is sound.
The individual who learned ISLAM...sunni...under imam wd.muhammed...tend to learn and teach only the way he did..and refer to him..more than the Prophet.. SAAW..

The story about the women was put together by wallace but also the govenment. They even said it in the Netflix Documentary that they had a high level official informant within the NOI

Imam W.D.Muhammad connected many to the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet and SAS.WHEN Siraj connected with the mystical Eastern schools of thought that is when the split came.Now the brother has received big money from foreigners.That is what happened.There should be no arguments Imam W.D.
