    Expansion in the HO scale layout.
    Good job.

    This is good stuff! I’m stoked you’re doing a layout expansion! And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with throwing up the plywood/OSB base and insulation before you have a concrete plan in place. Now you can lay track and other items out to see what you like, instead of only planning on paper or SCARM. That always helps me get a better visual.
    Also laughed at the “boxcar has been removed, that was easy…”.

    Looks Great!!! Take your time while planning out this new section. Draw out different track plans that you like and the use Google Earth to get some idea of real track plans of the railroad you are modeling. For your mainline I recommend #6 turnouts/switches. To save space you can have #6 turnouts on the mainline going into #4 turnouts on your secondary tracks. Keep up the good work and have FUN.

    I am slowly in the process of rebuilding my layout. My original layout was not as prototypical as I would have liked. (That is partially due to the fact that it was my first layout and I really did not know what I was doing). I am going English with my new layout. The Little Western branchline of the North Western division of British Railways. AKA Duck and Oliver's branchline from the Railway Series. (Thomas the tank engine). I have made a level above the layout so that I can have more storage and bookshelves.

      Slow and steady wins the race! But same here the first layout it always a sort of rough draft. That will be an amazing protype to model. I also love anything from the Railway Series 😁

      @@TopRailroad I intend to show the building process on my youtube channel Model Railroading for Dummies. Unfortunately I have not been able to upload for a long while since I have been busy. I work 4 10 hour days, plus I work on the family farm, and this winter I have been leading the adult Sunday school, which has been eating up my spare time.

    Stoked to see the expansion. You should maybe try to get a more finite plan in place for the entire track plan of the room before you get to into it though. Having to rip up scenery and track sucks because you changed your mind half way through. Spurs may change, but your mainline should have a solid, well thought out plan. Excellent execution of your work though. Lovin these vids

    this is just general question. Why does scale trains have crazy estimated time and is that when the product arrives in stock or what time it will arrive at my house?

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 роки тому

      I’m not entirely sure. I imagine the crazy wait time is cause they have to manufacture it still. They have so much detail which is why it’s such a long process.

    do you nail the plywood to the plastic stands or does it just sit on top?

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 роки тому

      They just sit on top of the plastic. If you have kids or want it to be more secure you could always drill some holes and do a nut n bolt method. Then bracket it to the wall. Since I’m gentle in my room I didn’t need to secure any of it

  • @BNSF1458

    Really good episode, it looks a lot different! Nice use of space too, you ever planning on getting one of those real fancy computer-controlled DCC setups? That would be epic.
    I'm finally starting to get into the model railroading hobby after years of wanting to, I joined a railroad club in town yesterday and I'm super excited to work on some of the stuff. Its standard DC sadly but we're trying to gear towards a DC/DCC Setup where we can just have a switch between the two. Can you do that with an NCE setup or do you need a different controller to be able to do that? Figured you'd know since you have it. Keep up the good work! Congrats on 3.5K, your growing like crazy man!

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 роки тому

      I always appreciate your comments man! But wow I’m really happy for you. Someday I would love to join my local one too.
      DC is still super fun but yeah getting DCC installed eventually will be even more fun. I do know you can wire the layout to do both. I know you can wire a split off, one going to the DC controller and the other goin to the DCC and then you have a actual switch to choose which you want to do. I bet UA-cam has a couple videos on it. I’m pretty sure SMT Mainline here on YT has that kind of setup

    • @BNSF1458
      @BNSF1458 2 роки тому

      @@TopRailroad yeah thats who I watched I was just curious if the NCE was different to hook up to a DC controller because it isn't a "normal" controller if you know what I'm saying. Can the NCE be used wirelessly? I forget. The main downfall of DC in my case is not being able to do switching ops very easily unless the controller is really close, and it has to stay in one spot so, I'd pretty much need someone to help me when I need the power cut lol.

    • @TopRailroad
      @TopRailroad  2 роки тому +1

      You can get wireless NCE it’s just a lot more expensive. And yeah the DC controller would be completely separate from the DCC. I get what you mean the DC one can’t really move at all

    • @MidtownSun

      We have a Hobby Lobby here, but it seems that the inventories vary greatly from one store to the next. Our location has virtually no train stock, and only a very limited amount of scenery supplies. For example, the only way to get SculptaMold around here is to order it online.
