- There is a feature called "Multiple Desktops" (or "Spaces") built right into the Mac operating system that can help you keep all of your windows and applications organized and easily accessible while giving them a full screen to work within - and it's just a swipe or keystroke away!

recently got my new MacBook Pro from my school and had never operated a MAC before. So trying to struggle to teach myself a new system has been challenging. But since I've been viewing some of the videos in your channel has made it so much simpler. Thank you.
You are simply a genious!!!!!!!!!!!! I am addicted to all your Apple/Mac videos!!!!! Because of you all my Apple products are still in one piece. Before finding your videos there were countless times my devices almost ending up under my car tires. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND DEDICATION IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
Thanks Robin! You are very kind. We are glad we could help.
This is a great feature. Saves a lot of clicking and dragging windows around. Instructor has a great voice, too. Easy to listen to and follow. Thanks!
Great video. You might have also mentioned that you can also put applications in full screen mode and they get a "space" in the mission control as well. I usually have around 3 desktops as well as tweet dec and mail running in full screen mode running at all times.
Very well presented
Also, you have a nice clear voice for a presenter.
Oh wow! Didn’t know about the 3 or 4 finger swipe right to move to the other desktops! Thanks
Very useful, like with any application you may know a lot about it but you watch a session like this and you either learn something new or gain a greater understand of how or why. Great job
Clear and concisely explained.
Oh how I wished every tutorial out there was this clear and to the point! Thank You David!!
Recently got a Macbook last month and it took me a month to realize the + sign to have multiple desktops! This is so cool! Thanks for the video!
u read my mind ... I have been trying to figure out this feature for 5 years!!! apple explanations just were not clear for me and I have the problem of not being able to access certain things in a smooth way for years now ... wow so helpful and I watch all your mac videos and love y'all for your professional and pleasant presentations!
We so love to hear things like this! Thank you for letting us know and thank you for your support. We appreciate you!
So Apple needs hire new promo artisté here !
THANX did not know about 4 finger swipe ( 10.5.8 ) but it works and has made it easier !!!!
This video was great. It solved some of my problems. Thank you.
Ah - I agree with Erika- I wish even one percent of guides were so clear and brief.
Extremely helpful . I got a new MacBook Pro 16 ( coming from windows user ) .. This video helped a lot . Many thanks !
New Mac user .. this is helpful info.
This is excellent - I had seen these different desktops by accident but didn't know what they allowed one to do. Thanks a lot- well explained and effective demonstration.
Finally, I now know how to use multiple desktops...great video. Thanks
It amazes me how I come upon something accidentally, like "Multiple Desktops". One day I had two desktops and had no idea how it happened. I was googling to 'fix' it and found out it's a great asset :D Loved this short, informative clip -- thx!!
I had actually seen this video before, but as I had not used the Multiple Desktops feature in some time, I came back for a little refresher. Thanks so much! This is a big help!!! Take good care, ~Antonio
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks!!
Many thanks for the video. I've always used spaces in the past but stayed with Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8 way too long because I didn't want to loose Quicken. Didn't know how to access Spaces in Yosemite before now. Thanks for reintroducing me to an old Apple friend.
Rob Lesser That's so great to hear! Thanks for sharing that. Glad you got reacquainted!
This was actually so beneficial. Coming from a pc to mac has been challenging and this desktop thing is so different but you showed how it could be beneficial and what the point of it was. So thank you
short, quick, and easy; thank you so much!
One of the clearest tutorials I have ever seen!
I don't know if that might have something to do with the topic being easy to explain, but in any case you sure made it easy to understand--even for me!
Thanks brother. Loved the Video. Am a new Mac user. Just Joined this organization and almost all users and devices are running Mac so i have to Get familiar with the OS to provide Technical Support.
Keep dropping those Mac Tuts brother. really helping me a lot.
Thumbs up
Saves so much time!! Had no idea this could be done.
Thanks!
You're welcome, Ana! Glad you're here!
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! Literally saved my life several times now with school work.
Thank you -one of the more direct videos I have seen. voice - clear and great volume, Visuals are perfect and easy to follow. Thank you for this - I have liked and subscribed to show my payment. have a great day
I like Shaun's B's comment and would like to know more about that. I understand the concept, but would to know more about the applications running on each desktop. Great video and easy to understand!
I didn't know you could drag an open application to one of the Desktops! Helpful video, thanks.
Thanks for this, very useful in the context of the pandemic, for people who both study and work from their home computer and need to keep windows open for both tasks without clogging up their entire screen!
Thanks so much! So simple and fast. Love how you got right down to it without a lot of narrative! BRAVO
im number one fan of your tutorials! thanks to you guys i can enjoy my mac and move around it
Thank you I knew about it but didn't know the keyboard shortcut so thanks again
You're very welcome! Have you also played with changing the desktop backgrounds on each desktop? That's a nice feature as well.
Mark Collier Yes i have thanks
Mark Collier You're making it a little bit more complicated than it needs to be. To create a new desktop, you don't really need to click a + sign, just simply grab a window and drag it up into the top space. A new desktop space will automatically self-generate. You might also have mentioned that spaces can be extremely useful for safari navigating... you can drag separate windows into their own spaces and just swipe between them, which I find faster than using tabs. Some windows can even be displayed fullscreen. Finally, it's easy to move the desktops around to change their order, just drag them into place.
merloon Yup! Great reminders. I just wanted to get people rolling with a quick video, but your points are excellent!
applelover53 Yea, it's really useful for people who have desktop Macs but don't use the Magic Trackpad or Mouse.
Wow I never knew this existed. Thank you

Wow! This is really cool! i have 3 desktops set up - one for me and one each for two clients of mine. This really saves me a lot of time and keeps me from having an insanely cluttered screen. Thanks so much for your great tutorials. I'm a relatively new Mac user (30+ years using PCs and your tutorials are making my Mac learning curve easy.
Thank you SO much for this video!!!!!! Much appreciated!!
This helped me a lot, this tutorial was very useful. thanks
Recently stumbled on your UA-cam channel. Love your teaching techniques - so informative and easy to understand. Thank you!
Thanks it was quick and helpful
Very useful , thanks
You're welcome, Danny!
video for beginners, but as usual, very nice made
Thanks! And although it may be considered a basic feature, many aren't aware of it, so we are here to help everyone have a better experience with their Mac. Personally, I didn't learn about this for quite a while after I started using Macs and it was a game changer for me.
Mind blown! I knew they existed, but didn't know about the Plus feature!
Glad to hear it! There are a few other things you can do with multiple desktops as well. Have fun! I think you'll enjoy using them!
You have made my day! Thank you for the easy to follow instructions.
Very useful. it would be nice if ways to use a mouse as well as a trackpad were included.
Good tip, well described!
AWESOME! always love your guys tutorials! VIDEO REQUEST: how to set up dual monitors? There are probably other videos on YT, I know, but I prefer your style of teaching! Thanks in advance!
Great idea!
Nadine's Mixed Plate There are quite a few variables in that equation including what computer you have, what ports there are, what monitors you want to connect, what options they have, etc.
I found ColorfulMatrix ”Shutter Split Screen" for apple app helps you split the screen and improve your operation quickly. I hope this is helpful.
Excellent Mark thanks for that it will come in handy everyday.
You're welcome, Pez. Let me know what you think after you get used to using it. Thanks for your comment!
Nice one, I was using hot corners to access the function and this is so much cleaner. Peace.
I already wondered how does mac do with four finger swap. Now I know . It is really cool. Thanks.
JW Christine You're welcome! Glad you found us!
very well explained !!! Awesome ..
helpful and direct. well done.
Thank you for this video! I knew some of this, but I had no idea about being able to have multiple desktops!! I needed this!! Thanks again :)
That's great to hear! Thanks for watching!
Thanks! Explained this clearly and concisely - perfect!
your correct, I didn't know about this handy feature, thanks for showing it
My pleasure, Terry. I've found that if I'm going to be working with multiple things for more than a few minutes, putting them on separate desktops helps me a lot. Let me know what your experience is once you get used to how they work.
Thanks. Very clear.
Great video! Thanks!
thank you! It was very helpful!😊
As a new user from Windows, this was something I missed - thanks for improving my Apple experience.
So very helpful, love your classes. Thank you.
Genius - Perfect, Thankyou x
Thank you a lot! It helps me a lot
Awesome, thanks for the explanation! SO using this starting ASAP
Great will be trying this tip immediatey
very Nice, trick never stop to learn, Great fast and helpful class... Cheers
Thanks, Armando. Glad you found us!
Thanks for this. My Trackpad packed up recently and I'm now using a mouse. The F3 command isa a much better and faster method of moving from one screen to another than having to click on the mission control icon
As always, these are great tips! I recently was promoted into a position that requires I handle much more information than before. Tips like this make it much easier to manage multiple projects. Thank you!
bossman696 That is so great to hear! Congrats and thanks for your comment!
Excellent, thanks!
Helped me a lot too!! Tks buddy
This is all fine and well if you have a MBPro with a trackpad. But if you have a desktop and mouse just set up with software macOS hot corners in Mission Control, say in the top right or lower left of your screen, this will let you quickly mouse to the corner and see all your desktops/apps. :)
Mr. Cox doesn't seem to care to explain the intricacies of using the feature(s) with a mouse or a track-pad. Also there's no mention of multiple monitors or how that could be different (because it is).
I am happy i knew this before watching this video
extremely useful!
Good one! Thanks David
Love these classes oh so very helpful.
awesome, many thanks
It is really good and useful.
Does anybody know how to change the switch effect?
Great video. Thank you.
Thanks so much. I love this feature of iOS.
Thank you so much!! You are my favorite Mac teacher. :)
Thanks Teresa! Glad you found us!
Awesome. Thanks for the wonderful tip. You guys are awesome.
You're so welcome! If you've updated to El Capitan yet, you'll see some slight variations on this feature, but overall the way it works is close to the same.
The guys at the Apple store showed me this once, but I forgot the controls. Thanks for the reminder. P.S. I will use this for a personal desktop, and 2 consulting projects i have going. Allows me to keep the 3 separate yet instantly available.
Art Johnson That's great, Art! Thanks for letting me know. Love hearing when we help people improve their workflow.
thanks David this really helped me
Thanks a lot sir👍
I have used mac since 1992 and I didn't know this feature (I know it obviously is a 'newer' feature, sure, but nevertheless). Great video! Thanks, Mark!
1CivilRightsActivist My pleasure, my friend. I really appreciate hearing your thoughts and comments. Thanks for participating!
Mark Collier Hi there Mark (and David et al)
I don't remember if you have already done a short one on Gmail forwarding (and perhaps POP/IMAP) settings? But it could be helpful to some who don't know how well it works, if one has several different types of accounts with diff. firms. :-)
Great ideas! I will add them to the list. When you say, "forwarding", do you mean forwarding emails to Gmail, or forwarding Gmail elsewhere - or both?
Mark Collier I am a Gmail user and loved your signature video and thought now of forwarding 'old' Hotmail, domain name e-mail, Yahoo to ones Gmail account. But I am biased :-) If you could do both ways, then that is awesome for people, I would believe :-) You guys rock!
PS: Earlier on - a few years ago - I preferred using my domain names' email, but I am shifting a bit on that 'liking' and is more inclined now to use my domain name and then tell everyone to e-mail me at Gmail. It is much easier to administrate on the go.
... a matter of taste and so on. :-)
Thank u this helped me
Thanks. Your vids are solo helpful.
You're welcome! Thanks for your comment.
thanks a lot i was trying to do but could not, and then i saw this video
Well done, Sir!
I'm glad to know about this but I found it while looking for 'how to' info on plugging my MacBook Pro (Sierra) into an Epson projector and showing a video to my students, while also entering grades in a different app. Is that possible?
i use 4 corners to do that operation lower right corner for that feature
Hello, Thanks for the clear description. I was wondering if there is a way to save these desktops and recalling them after my mac is turned off and back on. Pls lmk. Thank you, Alec
Thank you so much for sharing this, I am going to use multiple desktops now
Tim datoolman Cool, Tim! I think you'll dig it! (and LOVE the name!)
Thank you!
You can also drag your items direct to the + sign and then you will have the new desktop created!
Great reminder!
Cool Stuff. Thanks for sharing.
