The spotlight ain’t treating me well.
It gets up in my face, I can’t see nothing else.
I start losing my place, it keeps ringing my bell
‘tiI can’t leave the stage without somebody’s help or I’ll fall.
Been getting worse every night,
like a big puff of smoke slowly covering my eyes,
screwin’ up my head, got me squintin’ all the time.
Now people I know are getting hard to recognize and I’m scared.
Goin’ blind. I bet you didn’t notice.
Goin’ blind. Hardly anybody knows it;
my wife and my kids,
some family and friends,
the ones that drive me ‘round
and hold the lamps that guide me in.
Goin’ blind.
I’m too young for feeling so elderly.
Will somebody please come and read this to me?
Going everywhere in the passenger seat.
Tell me. “What kind of man can’t get his kids from point A to B?”
Goin’ blind - like I might not see you later.
Goin’ blind - askin’ everyone for favors.
I don’t know where I’d be without my family and friends;
the ones that drive me ‘round and hold the lamps that guide me in.
They’ve been trying to keep me optimistic.
“Surely, the doctor’s gonna fix it.
Even if they don’t, hey, it’ll be alright.”
But I’ve had trouble with the bright side.
Goin’ blind. I’ve had to really think it over.
Goin’ blind. Oh, its nearly scared me sober.
I’ve been leaning on the Lord, my family and friends;
the ones that drive me ‘round and hold the lamps that guide me in.
Goin’ blind brought the heart back into focus.
Goin’ blind - so much love I failed to notice
Goin’ blind.
Music is powerful. I take from it and use it in my life the best I can. This song pulls on my heart. I was once blind through addiction.
This is such a beautiful song, it would bring a tear to a glass eye......glad you can see the world in a new light my friend
Loved you since around 06-07 and never stopped. Unfortunately for me I never thought to find you on UA-cam. What a treat! Keep on brother. Just for you, GO DAWGS!
Its kinda ironic that you can see clearly 2020! Loving the new music! Long time fan!
Man... first off, all the empathy possible. My wife has been rolling one eyed since she was a kid as a result of a detached optical nerve and each year her good eye is a little worse than before so I know this is going to hit her in the gut. But beyond that, I hate you’re experiencing issues and we will be praying for a solid bounce back but I can’t even tell you how good it is to hear the old, story telling Corey! This is the you I loved immediately and led me to turning to your music to get me through more than my share of shit. Keep getting better and get back to us!
John Kidd thanks. Sorry to hear about your wife’s vision troubles. Very important to keep regular visits with ophthalmologists. With one eye, slight changes in vision become amplified. Very grateful that I’ve had good doctors to help me. Secondly, I know what you mean as far as the storytelling. I think at some point, I started becoming more concerned with overall sonic characteristics and musicality of songs. I started imaging them as complete productions. Not a bad thing in itself. But I think I over complicated things for myself and lost focus at times. At some point last year things really started clicking again.
Wow!!!!! Simply amazing as always
Very glad surgery went well! Absolutely loving all the new songs but can't wait to see you back on the road & in Chattanooga again man. Wishing you a speedy recovery!!!
I love you. Saw you from middle Missouri to Louisville. St. Louis mostly.
Been listening to you since I was 9 years old I remember my first concert I got to go to see you in Cinci and I got to sit in front of even the fence, still my favorite artist to this day and 11 years later !
I don’t think there’s another artist out there that I truely feel how personal an full of emotions the songs convey. Thanks Corey, enjoying these songsmiths videos!
@coreysmith my eyes have always been my downfall. I'm so glad your surgery went well and praying for a speedy recovery! Thank you for continuing to write and sing songs that are meaningful
Been a fan for a long time. I live for your music sir! 🤘🏼

I love that guitar!
I can see fine, and can relate to this song.. music is a amazing thing
This song really hits home. I’ve started having issues with my eyes the last two years. I have swelling on my optic nerves and have to have spinal taps to get pressure off. I could end up going blind as the years go on. I love your music I’ve seen you live 3 times. And just saw you play in dalton will forever be a fan and will see you live every chance I get
You can really hear the pain and humility in this one. Praying for your continued recovery, God bless brother.
I have a friend that lost vision in one of her eyes (some weird condition that there are only like 5 or 6 known cases) and then her brother-in-law is having issues with his vision.. So I showed her this song and she loved it and showed it to her sister and it left her speechless.. I said all that just to say thank you for sharing your story. You are awesome brother!
Hands down this is the "deepest" song ya got, sounds amazing though, Love ya bud hope all is well on your end 🤙
Hey Corey- This is an awesome song! Hoping you have a speedy recovery and that as soon as your healthy and ready and hit that stage again, and even if you cant, we'll be here supporting your music.
I literally listen to your music daily on Alexa! Make it back to Raleigh soon!
I'm loving these new songs. They feel so personal and close to home. I can't wait to see you in concert again. Growing up just down the road in Commerce, I've always felt a connection to your music and this song really hit home. My Dad is a musician and struggling with vision loss and trying to keep it a secret so people don't worry about him. I'm definitely going to have to share this song with him
Drew Millwood thanks Drew. Good ole Jackson County baby. Sorry to hear about your Dad. Best wishes.
This song hurts my heart, and it tingles my senses.
Wow, please keep doing what you're doing.
So raw and real. Family and good friends are what it’s all about. Hope you’re recovering well! As always, thank you for sharing your talent with us! A fan forever. 💜
Hot Mess Haley thank you. It’s a pleasure and blessing.
Corey Smith is there a way I can find some more of your new stuff South Georgia boy here respect to you sr
Man. This hits home. I play at least 2 to 3 times a week locally and have severally impaired vision. Stage lights fuck me up all the time. This resonates in a big way. Thanks for sharing these songs man.
I love your transparency, brother. Such courage to put that out there in the open. that honesty is so inspiring. thank you!
Thank you so much!
Dog gone Corey I swear your music gets better and better with every song, was excited when cellophane came out and now going blind...wow.... glad surgery went well now hurry up and get better cuz we miss you out here lol, but glad your getting some family time and some rest, cant wait for the new album. Anyways take care bud
I pray your recovery is well!! Thank you for keeping your music real and heart grabbing!! My battle buddy in Iraq turned me to your music and I thank you Tyler B. Thank you as well Corey for your hearts work!!!
Eric Griffin thanks eric, for the kind words and for your service. I can’t tell you how many people found out about my music while in the service. It’s a really great feeling to know the songs are being shared in such a personal and memorable way. Many thanks.
A heartfelt song from your experience. Beautiful vocals and great guitar as always .you will be in my prayers , I will bring your name to Jesus in prayer . Believe it or not , he is very real , and he is still in the healing business ✝️
Due to my own struggles with eye injury and the fear of being blinded as a child, I can't truly relate to this song and the story it tells. Luckily I have vision in my right eye. My left is artificial. Sometimes I feel so blessed. And other times I have felt like I've only seen half the world around me.
I've never heard a song that I could relate to on this issue until now.
I'm not at all surprised that it was a song that came from you Corey.
You are my favorite song writer for that reason.
Thank you for what you do.
Okay now I’m crying. In 2017 I had major back surgery and had to rely heavily on family for months. This song has made me remember this time and my gratitude I have for the time and effort every one put in for me. Bless you sir and may the new year give you time to recuperate and reenergize
Well wishes from a huge fan in New Hampshire
mattanthony0814 thanks. That’s what it’s all about. I hadn’t thought about it from that perspective. It’s scary putting stuff out and not knowing if people can relate. Thanks for sharing.
Man, I've been following you since you started. We used to plan our family vacation around you being at house of blues in myrtle. There hasnt been a show in the northern va/dc/Baltimore area I haven't been to in about 8 years. I'm saddened to hear about your struggles and hoping for a great recovery!
Saw you are ricks café in Starkville during 2018 talked with you after the show man. Thanks for being a big inspiration!
Such a personal song about something we all take for granted- our eyes. I'm glad to know your vision is getting better, Corey! All that going on with you personally and you still didn't skip out on songSmith for all of us. You're a trooper and I truly appreciate you for it! This is a beautiful song and I can't wait for next week!
Carl Parrott II Thanks. These new releases are definitely therapeutic and helping get me through the time off. Very happy people like yourself are finding them compelling. Cheers.
🍻🍻🍻
Wow Corey, there is so much deep thought, fear, faith, and strength in that song. It is truly you walkin' the walk from the depths to the peak. We are so happy to hear that a successful procedure is complete and a little recovery is in order. Hard to count how many times we have seen you live now but I can rest assured you will look at me now and say "damn you got old." The song "Party" will have a new meaning. Stay well.
Charles Pratt thanks Charles. It was a tough one to get out but it was therapeutic. Look forward to getting on the stage again soon.
Wow man. I had no idea you had a prosthetic eye! Sending you positives vibes, Corey. I'd give my eyes away to you and my other favorite songwriters as long as I can keep my ears to listen to your wonderful songs and you keep writing new ones to hear!
Chris G yep. Most of my life. Wasn’t really a big deal until I started losing sight in the other. Thanks for the well wishes man.
This is the first I have heard of this. I hope you're well.
I have always wanted to take my wife to one of your shows. I hope I get that chance.
Your song " 21" was what I woke up to every morning when I was deployed to Iraq in 2010.
Thank you for listening. Can't wait to be back on the road.
Corey, I'm loving all the new songs lately! This one is so raw and personal. Great job as always. After years of following you and hundreds of shows, its only gotten better. I hope you recover well and look forward to each new video.
Aubrey Sawmiller Thanks Aubrey. I’ve definitely had a lot of practice over the years and try my best to keep growing. I appreciate the kind words.
Been following you since 2004 and never knew! Here’s to a successful surgery & a speedy recovery!
Song was amazing. Lyrics really hit home! Can’t wait for the next Songsmith!
Wow..powerful song Corey!!
I hope the surgery went well..
Such a beautiful song man, keep it up, they just keep getting better & better, hope your recovery goes smoothly, my vision sucks but I couldn’t imagine your situation but I could definitely see how it would scare the shit out of you, keep up the great work brotha, you got this.
FiOStreets thank you. Even when vision was at worst, I kept reminding myself to be thankful for what I had. It could have been a lot worse. I was still able to play music and felt blessed. But now have a very different outlook. Thanks for the encouraging words.
Thank you Corey this song hits home I have one eye and diabetic retinopathy is slowly taking my other your music is amazing you have a fan for life
Brett Gibbs My pleasure Brett. Very rewarding to know when a song impacts others. It’s scary stuff. It’s easy to take clear vision for granted. I know I did for a long time even with only the one eye. This experience has left a tremendous impact. Best wishes to you.
Corey Smith hope to see you play again one day until then keep up the great work
Very moving song. Glad to hear of the vision improvement. Hopefully next time my wife and I come to see you in Little Rock you get to see us too.
Glad everything went well! Hope to " see" you out West again soon!
Holy shit I always wondered why you wore sunglasses. Song hits home I'm legally blind without glasses or contacts. Glad the surgery went well. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Man, i look forward to my notification that you've posted. Amazing videos and songs each week. Loving the new studio and what you're doing with it.. glad everything went well and prayers for quick and full recovery... cant wait to see you next time you come anywhere within driving distance from Savannah GA...
Jon C thanks Jon. I’ve truly enjoyed making the videos so far. It’s helped me get back to some of the basics. Very glad you are enjoying them and look forward to continue to churn out the the content. So many songs have never seen the light of day because I get stuck in the production process. Doing the video/audio together is keeping me disciplined. I have to get a good take and can’t rely on editing or too much processing. Very natural. Thanks.
Different parts of pain finds different parts of the heart.
Some times I feel like I'm going blind in my walk with good vision.
Deere Gear of Northeast GA well said.
Me too brother...
♥️♥️♥️♥️😘🙏
Corey I’ll give you my eyes sir! You’ll do more with them tan I can!
