I take a look at one of Fromsoft's lesser known (and quite frankly stranger) titles, Evergrace! Twitter: / treekyboi Twitch: / treekyboi Tiktok: / treekyboi
Why evergrace ost is like "that" is because the lead composer Kota Hoshino has no form of traditional music education. He spent a lot of time composing 'blind', and figuring it out as he went along. He experiments a ton. Kota Hoshino is now one the heads of FromSoft music department his most famous works are from the Armored Core Series
I've heard a lot of reviewers comment on how Shadow Tower and King's Field are predecessors to the Souls genre, but so many gameplay and presentation systems for the Souls genre reached maturity through Evergrace. And while the graphics are bright and cutesy, the story is as dark as any other From Software title. Murakumo: Renegade Mech Pursuit, Otogi, Eternal Ring, Echo Night, Evergrace, Forever Kingdom, Chromehounds, Frame Gride, Kuon, Lost Kingdoms, Metal Wolf Chaos, Another Century's Episode, Enchanted Arms... this was the golden age for From Software in which game development was still simple enough to experiment and From Software was still flush enough with money (partially propped up from their annual Armored Core releases) to spread out their efforts. This period of their development felt like a reiteration of Squaresoft's highly creative and divergent Playstation era, who themselves also started out as a business software developer before pivoting into gaming. Curiously, after this period ended, it seemed From Software was on the financial backfoot and were placing all their chips in on the immortal, best-of-all-time-Halo-killer Xbox 360 game called Ninja Blade. At the same time, Miyazaki took the reins on a largely discarded game project which would evolve into an oh-so-insignificant little title that would be called... DEMONS' SOULS. :P
Super interesting! I can see this 100% and evergrace was certainly a turning point. Cant wait to go over all of these games 🤣 also i had a weird love for ninja blade.
YAY I WAS WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO!!! THANKS FOR THE REVIEW ON EVERGRACE!!!! AND I HOPE YOU DO LOST KINGDOMS NEXT because it has that exact "stranger in a strange land" feeling you mention... Hell do all of Fromsoftware's old series! Okey dokey, so first with the time discrepancy, lemme sum it up because Evergrace doesn't try at all to explain how time fucky it is. So in Rieubane, time goes a lot faster, in which a few days within equals years outside. That's why, even when NPCs say only a few days have passed between the time Sharline and Darius enter Rieubane, the truth is... It's been 13 years outside. Where Sharline remembers Darius as a beloved little bro, he's already very much grown into a jaded soldier guy with angst and shit when he gets to Rieubane. And ya really only get this feeling of time fuckness before the final boss, if you hear the optional line of Sharline noting that he's grown up. Blink and they grow up so fast... Literally. Otherwise, lovely and a very glowing review of Evergrace! I found a lot of the game to be painful and difficult... But, y'know, in the masochistic Fromsoftware way. I really sucked ass at the puzzles and Shadow Tower was hellish to beat twice, but in the end the music, atmosphere and story of the game captured my heart. Which is why I translated the novel hehe. I enjoy your way of making videos so don't hesitate to put in more funny clips of your face, less jontron more you lol. And, hope that the people over at King's Field subreddit will love this too! :D
Lost kingdom and all the older fromsoft games are on my list! Im going to be putting some other games and commentary out before then but im definitely looking to cover all the from software games! That makes so much sense in regards to the story! The wiki did little to explain much and i had a hard time following 🤣 thanks for clarifying!!! Im happy you liked it and yeah im still getting used to the camera on my YT videos so ill definitely be putting in more of me! Thanks for the comment btw i hope others enjoyed it as much as you did 🙌
Darius was a little boy when Sharline disappeared and the people of Ruebane were trapped there over a century ago. So either time moves different in a Brilliana Fruit or people just don’t age in one.
Sienna put ruebane in a pocket dimension to purify as the crest is for when Morpheus was going wild doin all the crazy stuff he was doing. So when Darius sent sharlene and the assassin's to be purified because sienna never went thru with purifying because she couldn't bear to let go of tranden so Sharlene found herself in a land out of time waiting to be purified stalemated by Morpheus refusing to let tranden go and sienne refusing to go thru with the purification. so Sharlene is in a place disconnected from the space time she came from. So there's no reason for a worry about the time-frames.
@@Treekyboi there's a book it's obscure but you can look it up it goes into time Darius spent training to be a sword master and his life leading up to the billiana tree the one he stands before in the opening, sending him to the place where crest purify crystalize and reset the chaos of this world.
@brandondenny226 thats okay i need constant reminders to keep me on top of games i want to cover LOL. But yeah i think its Forever Kingdom and from what i see it looks interesting if not just for the story.
Evergrace is so interesting to me. Despite never playing the game in my childhood it just gives off these vibes that I really like, and as you said it feels like a dream. I haven't even played the game it self, although I might have to give it a shot simply for the vibes.
