Billy Reese Those 3800s can be more powerful than v8s. My buddy had an 01' Regal GS that had 240 hp stock and by the time he was done with it he had gotten it up to almost 400 hp to the wheel. That sucker is still on the road smoking v8s to this day.

@@moontiger74 Do an engine/trans swap from a wrecked Grand Prix GT/GTP with the supercharged 3800 Series III (I think 2004-5 GTs and 2006-7 GTPs, but I could be mistaken). That’ll be the cheapest and most reliable way if you find a reasonably priced engine/trans and sell yours once the swap’s done.

@@moontiger74 Probably a transmission upgrade since it comes with a sucky 4 speed. I'd put an 8 speed and a muffler delete. I prefer turbos over supercharges but I don't know if a turbo is even possible in it. EDIT: Also what Jim said. Not a bad idea, but yeah definitely needs a better transmission.

Agreed! Love Buicks, always have. I’ve had 2 G-body Regals (V8 and T-type), 2 W-body Regals (an LS and a GS), and a Park Avenue Ultra. They’re not attention-grabbing, plenty quick, reliable, super comfortable, and affordable in really good shape used. I’m definitely buying one of these for a daily/work car as soon as I find a good clean low-mile southern or west coast example after the spring.

Another great Buick from GM. Even in GM's dire financial straits at the time this car came out they were still able to make a quality Buick. Buick always seemed to be the GM's most impressive marque.

Definitely. Aside from the video of the 2008 Buick Lucerne Super that Kyle has on his channel; I really like this Buick LaCrosse Super. I may be almost thirty but I don't like to think of the sedans by Buick as "only for old people." In no particular order my favorite Buick vehicles are the Century, Regal, LeSabre, Lucerne, LaCrosse, Park Avenue, and the Enclave.

A great mod for the LS4 is to swap an LS 1 crank in it! Destroking the engine causes a slight torque loss, but it moves the HP and torque peaks *_WAY_* up in the RPM's. It usually pushes the redline up over 7,000 RPM. On the interstate, you'd be absolutely clowning muscle cars!😂

I own an 07 impala SS. When I bought it it still had the original goodyear RS-A tires on it. The torque steer was pretty bad with them on it. Last week I put on some Nitto Motivos and the torque steer is gone completely. These cars just need some really good tires and the become awesome handlers. I personally like FWD for cornering over RWD. Seems that the FWD really pulls you into the corners better, at least IMO. And up here in the north I need FWD for the winters.

Yes there is a serious lack of tech, but not everyone wants iDrive or CUE. Yes this is stereotypical, but Grandma would be happy to learn she doesn't have to spend the next 6 months getting acquainted with a complicated touchscreen if she wants to listen to Frank Sinatra.

Man, this is what I love about America. Even if you're poor you can afford a guzzling, growling 300 horsepower V8 for little money. I'm not too keen on the 4-speed automatic, it could be RWD, and the whole car seems a little outdated, the interior is a little cheap (some large gaps on the middle console), but still it's a real V8 and not a slow one.

    • @ImperialRadioYT

I'm not sure what you're trying to say, but a 4-speed auto is outdated by today's standards and was so even in 2008. German cars had 5-speed autos in the late 90's.

What a shame they didn't use the 4T80E transmission or offer the F40 6 speed transaxle with the LS4 in the SS/GXP/Lacrosse, there's no excuse really the Lucerne Super with the Northstar got the 4T80E. If they weren't willing to give the cars an adequate transmission, they should have killed the W-body in 2005, helped Holden get the VE/WM finished sooner and sold the "new" Lacrosse on the Commodore platform with 3.6 300hp, 6L 362hp and using all the badging and trim from the Park Avenue sold in China along with selling the Park Avenue on the WM Caprice chassis here with the 6L L77 V8. If they wanted a Lacrosse or Luscerne VE Super model they could have used the L92 or LS3 6.2L V8. THAT would have saved Buick, having a line running building VE/WM in North America by 2006 would have saved Pontiac too because the pricing could yave been much better, they could have sold a VE Impala and WM Caprice(along with an ElCamino and Nomad) G8 and Bonneville, Luscerne or Lacrosse and Park Avenue all for the kind of pricing they sold the GTO/G8/SS for after the year end discounts $20-36k rather than $33-50k and GM might not yave had so many issues selling cars. The CTS-V and STS-V could have been based on VE and WM as well saving all that cost and giving excellent cars, they might have even been able to offer a Fleetwood luxury WM for the ailing livery industry that only had Lincoln and those garbage FWD Caddy platforms to use. GM could have had a sea of winners on last ts that actually compared to Lexus, MB and BMW rwd cars after they killed the trash FWD disposable junk they peddled for years before traction and stability control made rwd cars good on bad roads and not had the issues fwd had once HP was back up beyond idea.

They consider more important reliability and the few visits to the mecanic possible than low fuel consuption, so they build engines with big pieces that tolerate higher agressions without breaking.

maybe true but you have to look at the torque and HP curves. The stang and this may be pretty close down low but on top end the stang goes down....hard. Ecoboost stang is a beast though.

I know it's got to be annoying when people demand "HEY KYLE DO A VIDEO ON THIS" but I noticed on your channel you haven't reviewed the AC Cobra. Just throwing this out there in case you get the opportunity, I would LOVE to see a video on the Cobra as it's in my opinion one of the greatest American made cars ever (along side the Ford GT of course.) Thumbs up so Kyle can see!!!

When you have a 4 speed, your at around 2600rpms at highway speed. with a 5 speed you're at like 2200. 6 speed 1800. of coarse these numbers aren't exact but you do save gas with more gears, unless you're going to drive 50mph everywhere.
