    You have a hell of a memory to recall where each set is in the dark. ALSO kudos for always giving praise to the Lord, not like those who just give lip service.

      Yeah as the traps get older they get easier to set but one slip and that spring can really snap. Yeah I have a nice pair of 330 setters and they seem to have grown legs over the summer. lol. Have a good one

    Can't wait to see what you get. Your positive attitude and good spirits make watching so fun. I am not far from retirement and am going to take up trapping again when I do. This helps keep the bug alive. I wish we could trap wolves here. We have so many of them that the deer population has really suffered. They are an awesome animal but there are simply too many. Maybe by the time I retire the powers that be will allow trapping/hunting them again. Goo luck and I can't hardly wait to see what you get.

    • @enigmaticgwichin1630
      @enigmaticgwichin1630  7 місяців тому

      Thanks. There are enough negative attitudes out there in the world, I choose to be happy through everything life throws at me.
      Awesome! it’s great to be out in the woods and trapping is a great reason to be out there. Yeah I’ve heard the same thing from a lot of people in the lower 48 about wolves. We have an over abundance of predators as well. We can trap and hunt them but there are just not as many of us doing it anymore. The trapping community would definitely love to have you join us. Thanks for writing.

      Yeah definitely a safety issue when dealing with these traps. It does take up a bit of pocket space but definitely worth it. Oh man my ride plowed into it quite a ways but my right ski couldn’t break through to the top and drug me right into the thickest part. Thanks Mike. Up until the last two years I used to leave in the dark of the morning and return in the dark. But only for December and January. By February my line is almost fully set and I don’t need to spend 10+ hours out there, I can usually do the loop in about 6 hours. He’s right but back in the day headlights on the snow machines and headlamps were fairly weak and expensive to use. Not an excuse to trap at night but the headlamps now are crazy bright and the chance of getting poked is much lower.
      Once I was hauling firewood with a weak headlamp and the headlights were out on an old snowmachine I was using and a burned pole pointed toward me where I couldn’t see went through the hood and almost got me. Since then I’m much more cautious when out in the woods.
      I also bring a couple extra headlamps now.
      Thanks for watching and a great reminder from your dad to be extra careful out there. Have a good one and god bless

    Do you ever get Fisher that far north? That is one animal that we trap here pretty regular along with fox, coyote, mink, musk rats, martin and bobcat. Lynx we can't trap and must release if we can.

      @enigmaticgwichin1630  7 місяців тому +1

      I see a least one set of tracks that look like a huge marten it usually passes through in one area of my line but never stops for sets or bait. I kinda figure it’s a fisher. But I’ve never heard of anybody catching one here before. If I catch one I’ll be sure to film it.👍

      @@enigmaticgwichin1630 we trap them with a skunk as bait. They typically hunt in/around brush piles left by loggers and such.
      They are pretty cautious and hard to catch but the fur is amazing. About twice the size of a Martin.

      Hi my friend! Oh man some years I can have 40-50+ sets out but this year with my health problems I have somewhere around 2 dozen sets in as of now. And that’s the bare minimum for making any decent catches. We’ve had a good start so far with about 6 catches. I’ll be starting the next video edit tonight. Take care Bill👋

    Question; why 110s when most others are running 120s? Are you using the Duke magnum 110s?

    • @enigmaticgwichin1630
      @enigmaticgwichin1630  7 місяців тому +1

      I do have 120s to replace after a catch when I run out of 110s. But marten will expire in a #1 single long spring so a 110 is far more powerful than the traditionally used #1. They are regular 110 dukes.
      Thanks for watching. I do catch a marten in one of those 110 in a coming video and another in a 330. Which is about normal for up here. Have a good one👍
