Ha! Ha! Ha! Yes, That's why I'm here. He does a great job with The Who, honouring John but not trying to replicate his playing. I think there might be something in the UA-cam algorithm that brings us bass players and Who fans here.
Pinos performance was perfect for the song. He's obviously capable of shredding the roof off of the My Generation solo (watch videos of him with dominic miller), but he plays it cool as to not step on the toes of Entwhistle. That's why this dude is the king. Plus he grooves like no other, and that solo was him. Not an imitation.
He should be an imitation. IT'S THE WHO! THEY SHOULD HAVE PACKED IT IN WHEN JOHN DIED. They have all the money in the world, what happens when Townsend goes, will it just be Daltry up there charging $250 a seat? It's all about the money now that's why the ONLY band I respect from that GENERATION is Led Zeppelin.
@@chrisk920 if a band chooses to keep going after losing key members of their sound, i'd much prefer them to work with what they've got instead of trying to roleplay as if they're still the same band they were. pino, while being polar opposite in terms of style to entwistle, did a great job considering the impossible task he was assigned
That is the best performance that Jools Hollands ever had on ,even though i would expect nothing less from The Who. Zack is the spirit of Moon R.I.P .Pino has bought something new to the band without doubt, only he could play Johns bass pieces making the Who a band again rathar than a duo, proper rock , i look forward to seeing them!! loved it
Classy finesse vs unnatural thunderfingers cacophony...odd pick but almost impossible to fill Oxs shoes...Zak is darn good getting that Moony sound...Glad to see Pete get his guitar heroism back!
Pino does his thing, but he's in a no-win situation however trying to fill in for Entwistle. Meanwhile, Zak's also in a no-win situation, but somehow he manages to win. Dude should be a legend. It's too bad he wasn't on more of Endless Wire.
nobody play's.. or ever will play like the great John Entwistle... he is and will be the best of all times... even Pino isn't filling the huge musical gap John left behind.. (although he's doing a great job.. and i really do respect him not trying to replace him, but plays the song like Pino would play it)
because everyday of his life he played better than the day before. See the last bass solo he ever did, a few weeks before he died, it's on youtube: he would never ever play bad.
damn mr palladino for making us common bass player look like rubbish!!:o playing with the who and rocking(ok i m not gonna agree about him or entwistle, entwistle was god,but that style was for this band only ,was unique and godlike but not that versatile) playing with nin ,with d angelo, with elton john and being so damn creative :l depression mode :on :)
@r0m3r12 I'm afraid not anymore, the who seem past it, imo they should've given up a long time ago, though Entwistle was great to the end. Pino is always good though, and he shines here, not many would have the balls to reinvent this solo, never mind doing it so creatively, in a complete opposite direction, his solo is outstanding.
I kind of agree totally! I mean Pino is soooo much a better bass player . . . well to me ok, however NOBODY can replace John in the Who, he just 'made them' as in it was his secondary melodies and nuances that made the Who sound like the Who.
its great that they go Zack Starkey in the band because Zak studied under Keith Moon so he knows kinda what Moon would've wanted and sounds kinda like him
@roman14032 Pino has recorded and toured with Pete Townsend for over 20 years-so there is a deep connection with the Who. BTW-since Entwhistle is RIP then who do think should be playing bass for the Who?
@TheBarackAttack I'm not sure that I really enjoyed his solo that much to be honest. Probably just because I'm not too crazy about overdrive effects on bass and I'm a die hard Entwistle fan.
can't all you just enjoy a great performance without thinking you are wanna be critics. i dont think anybody really cares about critique from some non accomplished observer.
I have seen the Who many many times since the first time in 1971, and as much as I love them I will never see them again. Pino is a great musician, but totally wrong for this band. When I first saw him, it was the tour when Entwistle died, and he had a very short rehearsal time, so while I didn't like it, I didn't blame him. Saw them when they toured the new album and it was better I admit. Now he's settled in and he's just not right for The Who. Rogers voice is pretty much gone.. It's sorta sad
@roman14032 Of course, The Ox was irreplaceable, as well as being an electric bass pioneer and bass icon. But Roger and Pete decided to continue to perform and tour. Therefore, I was posing a legitimate question. No reply expected. Btw, I honestly wasn't paying attention to the drummer.
Zak's a top drummer looked like Pino was holding him up a bit or he was playing it safe ,but he was the only one the looked like he was from the WHO in there early days wheres the wigs Pete & Roger ha ha Great Rock Band mum thrashed them years back
how come we are all here to watch Pino play?
Yes.
11 years later all bassists reassemble to bask in this glory
12 years later... @@jeffsirname
Still coming back in 2024 for more Pino magic!

Thumbs up if you are here only to see Pino playing.
I've seen The Who live twice, in 1996 and 2000. No one can replace The Ox, but Pino still rocks.
Pino Pino Pino Pino Pino!!

I couldn't quite nail it, but you did.
Exactly.

pino is like the most versatile bassist..can play any genre..impressive
Ya. Heard him on the Nine Inch Nails Tension Tour? Check out Sanctified. Totally different
Doing a 2000 word essay on Pino, can't complain
They're the same, only different. Pino and Zak are excellent Musicians. We should all be that good at what we do.
Your music was playing on the radio, when I escaped from Reform School in the summer of '69. I'm Free !'
Pino Killing it back there!!!! Oh my god
What a creative solo by Pino!!
not as good as the original
@@phenixreturnsDarn right. It was weak.

I miss Entwistle... Pino did a good job though...
I think Pino finally found his groove with The Who.
Pino's fretless bass on "Give Blood", from Pete Townshend's solo albumn "White City" is absolutely phenomenal!
Sounds like Pino is using an octaver too
Doesn’t come close to Entwistle .
Classy finesse vs unnatural thunderfingers cacophony...odd pick but almost impossible to fill Oxs shoes...Zak is darn good getting that Moony sound...Glad to see Pete get his guitar heroism back!
I love this, this is the Who spirit, great performance and energy :)
It's only half the band buddy

The dynamics could not be more tasteful.
If anyone is allowed to fill in for the late, great John Entwistle, it's Pino.
Mmmm love the tone of that bass
yess indeed, he uses the boss OC-2 octaver.
pino is a bass playing god....soooooo brilliant ,so unique!! xx
Pino's an incredible bass playert, but when I hear the solo, I just want to cry.
John did it better. Pino is a watered down RC Cola version of John. I don't care how well he plays jazz. He should stay there.
I noticed that pino used an octave effect on his bass to get that John entwistle thunder!
It was so cool
Pino uses octave effects in much of his tone. Often to effectively mimic synthesizers on bass
Pino Is Such a Great Bass Player!
For the who? Not even close to John. His bass sounds weak. Watered down.
Yes I love it a very good work on the mixing desk also
I'll join in, also, and comment that-YES-Pino is an absolute bass god!!

Great to look for Pino and also find Latin maestro Larry Harlow.
Pino Palladino is tall like a pino... also musically speaking. Pedazo de PINO!
(Love the intro from Larry Harlow, who released 'Hommy, a Latin Opera' in 75. It's great!)
The Who and Larry Harlow in the same room
@@JerryT21 I know it's wonderful!
pino as usual , this guy sound great ... always !!!!
Zack is so Cool!
Top version!
Oldie but goodie
I don’t know who I miss more, Keith Moon...or John Entwistle!
Who hasn't Pino played with?
me!
Session bass players are running out of work.😁😁
pino played on Jools first album back in the 80's
whoa.
Ans as always Pino is as cool as a stool!!! #Heroes

The obly one that died before getting old was Keith. RIP.
exactly
@AlivePhoenix He plays an Eric Clapton Strat. Those are hardly representative of a Fender sound.

Pino carrying the grand fathers ;)
Pino - Cool :) - I wonder what octave pedal he is using on the solo.
I kind of agree totally! I mean Pino is soooo much a better bass player . . . well to me ok, however NOBODY can replace John in the Who, he just 'made them' as in it was his secondary melodies and nuances that made the Who sound like the Who.
Who briefed the cameraman to give Pino virtually no screen time?
The only person to get less coverage than a bass player, is a substitute bass player. Standard operating procedure. (Even if you're Pino.)
@@jackquarantillo5192 Well Jools gave him a mention at the end , makes up for it
