Exercise and clean living have kept Roger in top form for a geezer. McCartney, however, sounds 2 octaves down from just the early 90s. I guess smoking pot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner didn't help.🤷♂️
I went to this last night and whilst this wasn't the best track played, my God if i could have that energy and enthusiasm when I'm in my late 70s I'll take it. Pete is still a master craftsman on guitar and a great raconteur. The set was nicely curated, full of humour and humanity. Roger's vocals are not what they were but he is descending from a high ceiling of his own excellence and once warmed up hit notes that most singers of his age wouldn't even attempt. I felt priveledged to see them enjoying themselves doing what they love doing and being so engaged, appreciative and supportive of some of the fine younger musicians accompanying them, including Kate Jacoby on violin, who was amazingly good!
Pete's been saying for years that he doesn't like playing live/touring anymore, he's only in it for the money. I'm pretty sure he's not joking. Though I find it a bit sad hearing him say those things I totally appreciate his honesty. Roger still loves doing it.
I can't post the link here right now, but if you're interested look for: "The Who's Pete Townshend doesn't enjoy performing. Here's what he'd rather do." (PBS NewsHour)

Ian, Saw them in Seattle in October (Wife surprised me with tickets). Wife isn't by any means a Who fan, but when she walked out of that arena, she was... She loved the whole show. You see people way younger than Roger who can' sing for their lives anymore. Then this guy walks on and holy hell. He sounds as good as ever. The band was tight, even with an Orchestra behind them. It was by far the best concert of my life!
Last saw these guys at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto on their Farewell Tour in 1982---20 Farewell Tours later, God Bless The Who! Keep On Rocking Ti You Die! :)
You, me and 16,000 others..lol. I remember they televised that concert as well but I had to go thinking it’s their last show. Saw them once prior to that show in Montreal with Keith Moon, and several times since
WOW! Roger Still sounds the Same as he Did when he was 20 years old! @ Pete I Agree with You on That! 😂😂 LONG LIVE THE WHO!❤️🤍💙⬆️ No One will ever Top them Ever! Untouchable Rock & Rollers!!!!
Such a great song! How does he remember the words!? I sang Cry If You Want to myself a million times in the 1980s and I still can't remember all of the words at age 54!
Remember this playing on the radio, remember them at Woodstock. Ironically I was just talking Daltrey singing this today (about getting old) They still kick for a couple of old gummers!!!
If you think these guys are old, just remember that George Burns was still on stage at 98 and people were still buying tickets to watch 10 minutes of an old guy smoking a cigar... in cities that still allows that kind of thing.
The legendary bass solo John Enwistle played absured technic, the thumd on th e - side unbelievable, but it works at this time. I played electric bass more than 20 years Jazz, Pop, Latin by myself, but i never thought to play the E - side with my thumb my 50 cent
Bill Clinton on lead vocals, Christopher Lloyd on lead and rhythm guitar, Boris Johnson on drums and Andy Cohen on bass guitar. Give a warm welcome for "The Who The Fuck"
They are singing “Hope I Die Before I get old”, and they are in their late 70s. So when do you get old? Must be when you are in your eighties or nineties. 😀
I love the yellow light on Daltrey's white hair! He almost looks like he did when he first sang it. That's the get around for having to sing, "Hope I die before I get old" now at an advanced age. I know thinking and perceptions change over time but I think it would be weird to sing that line to an audience when you're in your 70's. If you believe what it is you're singing, and isn't that what the best singers do? They make the audience believe them? I was a huge Who fan in the 70's as a teen and that's why - I believed them and their lyrics. I expect someone will correct me and say that the old they're referring to is "an old frame of mind." That line has been questioned in interviews for decades. But this is just my opinion and observation about this song in particular at this time. Give me a minute to buy a helmet before the rock throwing begins please.

They played two of the best gigs I have seen by any band in my life. BOTH in Hull. And I confess that they were not even my favorite band. 1970 when they did a full set of Tommy, and again in 71 at the ABC, the gig that never happened??? The (doctored) live recording from 1970 at City Hall is available and imo contains Keith Moon's best recorded live drum set. And the extended My Generation has to be heard. The ABC gig was possibly the loudest I ever heard. Even louder than Deep Purple at City Hall.
Huge Who and Townshend fan, but this is total bollocks. The stuttered segments here are easily achieved by being old and infirm. The Stones all the way.
Fantastic.! Roger ,you salty old dog : and Pete ! still commanding Rythem ,I thought You guys were Old , Maybe it's the Rest of Us that.Lost.it and, Your right Pete , about Gen. X BLEW IT ! I KNOW I Am One , ( Oh ,that's a song of yours too innit ? )
Seriously boys, it's time to call it a day, you've had a great run, but if it's just for the money, good luck to ya ✔️ I've seen the Who many times, they were fantastic,,,, sadly I wouldn't pay to see them now ☹️
What would you advise for someone who has never seen them? Would that just be sentimental? I’ve seen tribute bands and get half a sense of that golden era sound. But I could get tickets to see the real band on Sunday. Worth it?
I saw them live at Badminton and they were phenomenal. This recording does not show the energy and power, and I was prepared to understand they might be getting on, but what a show they gave. Very very good.
DO YOU NEED A SEAT PETE? Love the way his accent changes from decade to decade, old fraud. Remember the 80's when he talked with a perfect RP accent. He seems to have gone back to the 60's when he was using a Cockley accent.
Geezers coming up to age 80 playing My Generation are performing farce. In lieu of the John Entwistle bass solo, there should be silence, or a Depends advert.
Um...it's not the Who. It's Pete Townsend and Roger Daltrey playing their really old songs. The Who was Roger Daltrey, Pete Townsend, Roger Entwistle and Keith Moon. Those four made all that great music over fifty years ago! You can't just remove two of the most consequential rock musicians in history (Moon and Entwistle) from the equation and have the same results! Hey Townsend and Daltrey... just go quietly enjoy your retirements and quit sullying the Who's reputation!
Watch closely and Townsend barely plays. Most parts are now covered by his brother. PT turns his back to the audience. Watch him in the bass drum reflection and you’ll see. It’s time to stop!
