Mohnish Pabrai, often known as the Indian Warren Buffett has achieved an annual average return of 25.7% over the past 18 years. The way he invests according to forbes is, he has no interest in a company that looks 10% undervalued. He is angling to make five times his money in a few years. If he doesn’t think the opportunity is blindingly obvious, he passes.
Now this strategy works. Between 2000 & 2018 the assets that he’s invested has gone up over 900%, resulting in him managing more than $600 million dollars. So how did Pabrai do it? How did he dominate most investors who were struggling to get a 10% annual return, yet alone a 25% one.
I’m going to show you a couple of principles that Pabrai sticks to in order to achieve these results. Now keep in mind that if you follow these you are not guaranteed to get the same return as him. But they are likely to help improve your investing so that you can hopefully get better results…

I was advised to diversify my portfolio among several assets such as stocks and bonds since this can protect my inherited portfolio of about $2.5m. - Collective bargaining?
- How have they failed before?
- Are these normalised earnings or boom earnings?

*One genuine extra tip:* Most of these people who worth millions have good funds to start with. People can quote Warren Buffett everytime, as he made Billions from nothing. But that was the period he was in back then. Stock market back then was not a calculated investment. It was more of a gamble to 99% of people. Warren Buffett learnt that it was not true and he invested safely by properly learning the game where everyone are stupid investors. 2021 is not 1950's. So, you cannot make billions or millions from nothing. The only way for a commoner to gain profit is to wait and keep waiting. The best way to earn is to earn direct compensation via employment, businesses, land, online classes etc and not by investing your own money. There is no real magic to riches.
Yeah dont depend on the stock market but still invest in it when you get the time. Otherwise, inflation will eat your savings each year. At a minimum we can invest in index funds which give around 12-14 % returns.

You need a full trading system & Plan, a Watchlist, position sizing and signals for maximizing gains and minimizing losses, technical analysis alone is not a trading system.

Starting early is the best way of getting ahead to build wealth, Investing remains the priority. the stock market has plenty opportunity to have a decent payouts with the right skills and proper understanding on how the market works.
According to the owner of the company I work for, this single quarter has been more profitable than the last 6 combined, all thanks to "inflation." Which is to say, he heard there was inflation and jacked our prices by 25%, then blamed inflation. I have to assume this is not uncommon.

Mohnish Pabrai is not the Indian warren Buffet. It's Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. People hardly know Mohnish in India, but most investors know Rakesh. Rakesh is over $4.5 billion.
I love your videos, mate.
But I do have several issues with this one.
The first point Monish makes seems kind of weak to me. Those 13-F-filings are getting published several months after those successful investors have made their investment-decisions. Expecting those investors to perform as well in the future as they did in the past is another critical point, just look at Buffett or Dalio for example, they haven't beaten the market for quite a long time now. Also, just as Buffett famously mentions he finds himself in utterly different circumstances than small investors regarding the billions of dollars that he and Munger manage. So investments that are good for them might be mediocre for small investors.
Moreover, I'd like to hear Monish elaborate on what's the exact criteria to avoid companies which could be supplanted by low-cost competition from China.

Best time to invest? thats funny though because in the last four months I have lost more than $47,900 in stock market which is the biggest I have loss since I ventured into stock investment.

The flaw in the first strategy is that the big investors has already invested their money in the stocks of their choice. By the time it comes out in the report, the stock price might be inflated already. Sure, we can still get a position but the upside might be limited. Just simply dollar cost average, let the compounding do the magic.
He mentioned reverse engineering
This is so true. These big fishes with big money use their capital to inflate the value and create a talking point. Then sell off when retail investors have bought in.
Everything else in the video is good.
There is a book called: The little book that builds wealth. In this book the author teaches the reader how to find good moat companies.

The reverse engineer part is the KEY here. If you copy without any knowledge, you ask for trouble.

Well the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward and such impeccable decisions are better guided by professionals.

i think 10~20% is rational earnings.
I guess boom earnings are earnings based on the tide of a booming market (a bubble). Whereas normalized earnings are from a company that have shown their intrinsic value and have passed the test of time.

Currently I'm just being smart and frugal with my money, I'm in the green 47% over the last 23 months and l've accumulated over $70K in pure profits from DCA’ing into stocks, ETFs, dividends and futures. Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. ompletely agree. I have been consistent with my profit regardless of the market conditions. I got into the market early in 2019 and the constant downtrends and losses discouraged me, so I sold off. I got back in December 2020 and this time with guidance from an investment adviser who was recommended by a colleague
