Which new option do you like the best? What options should be added in? There's a lot that's great but it's not perfect yet. Buy the game on *GOG* using this referral link to support: af.gog.com/en/game/pharaoh_a_new_era?as=1715648857 Thanks!
My favorite new feature is the global worker pool. No longer must the land be dotted with physicians and Apothecaries to safeguard that 1 shanty hut without water or food that keeps your entire economy alive. Although it was a funny and accurate portrail of the world economy.
I do wish that the gameplay options had an indication of which one is the classic pharaoh setting, and which one is the new option. Being able to just disable the animals is pretty nice if you were already planning on just walling them out with statues.
One of my favourite features is the achievments: not the usual "beat the campaign" but the ones who are either hilarious (collapse an Architect post or burn down a Firehouse) or outright challenging (one water source for 10k inhabitants, or have Palatial Estates without roadblocks!) Edit: Some of them are sadly bugged as of now :(
I chose Global and Fixed Worker Ratio on my options, because i've already played through Pharaoh using the old settings, its time to try something new.
Your little bit of text audio at the beginning really gave me a laugh Zakh! Also a great job as usual for breaking things down with your thoughts- its nice to hear what you think and see how it compares to my own experiences.
Hi, I just bought this game yesterday because of watching your video, it is an awesome game! Freshly remake from the legendary old game. My only complain is the same with most people here that is the lack of minimap and rotation, and perhaps they should make the icon for 'service' and 'food' buildings not so look alike, but overall as a fans of caesar-pharaoh-zeus-middle kingdom kind of game I super enjoy this remake game. Keren and mantap banget video nya, sukses selalu channel nya bro Zakh, salam dari Medan, Indonesia
I'm waiting to see how patches come before I support this. While it is an indie studio, they took on the lofty goal of remaking a beloved classic, I'm totally shocked they didn't get a working minimap into it, at least. Even when devs nail a remake, fans are very passionate and it's hard to please them. Even just improving things could be seen as a negative, so I don't envy their task. I do hope they listen to feedback and improve this title though, as it would be a great way to play Pharaoh on modern PC's.
No scroll speed and no minimap options is extremely annoying , later missions on big maps is very difficult to go through the city. Also zoom, hello ? I`ll stop playing for now untill they get the important issues adressed, like pyramid building that bugs out constantly and needs loading and reloading
I wasn't that much of a fan of the recruiters system. The option is a nice addition even though it makes the game a bit easier too. The dock and the gardens options are also pretty good.
Ive been thinking on how to comment for 3 days. At first, i was disgusted about the battle changes. But I went back and watched OG. I have to accept how bad the attack sequences were. Now, I agree with the developers. Well with that mess removed, I should think you are now free to build just amazing cities; and thats what I want to learn about. Using global labor pool and trade every single resource possible. I look forward to the monuments! Ty man, good to see you again.
@@doczspec4502 They aren't games that lend themselves to combat. I've really tried to enjoy Caeser 3's combat scenarios, but Total War games have spoiled me. It's just poorly aged mechanics.
My favourites are: no option that you can stop the notifications from spamming you. Option for police being able to kill predators would be nice. Nice list for the rest. Overseer pause didn't work btw. I checked on release.
Regarding Ultrawide: its currently not supported. I have a 21:9 display, but can't select the proper resolution. Instead, I have to play in the equivalent 16:9 with big black bars on the side. And it has problems setting the "scrolling border" correctly.
It is odd because I remember the devs saying that was already implemented. Then again, I've heard that the devs often fix something then it goes to QA, and QA can take weeks or longer to approve it, so maybe the devs think something is fixed but it's not actually IN-in yet.
I can’t find the option to “stockpile” a resource so I am having trouble fulfilling requests! Also the minimap is missed! Do the gods still bless you with monument construction acceleration?
It's on the overseer of commerce, there's an icon on the left for stockpiling. Minimap should definitely be implemented, hopefully they got that in the works. Not sure about monument blessings, have to look into that.
Global Workpool thank goodness, can we get an update or option so entertainment venue doesn't register unconnected venue roads like in Caesar III granaries please, or just roadblock those venue intersections
yeah, pretty much in all setups i build entertainment as forced walker loop on the outside of housing block because of unavoidable intersections they make and because of dancers bug
@@griffon2-6 yeah, everyone just said "just use forced walkers lol", bruh I want variety in my city designs but the same rant I have from vanilla is the same, entertainment venue is a frickin intersection~
I think the developers should change the UI to be like Emperor’s. Having all the industries and overseers together on the same tabs on the right side, plus a mini map at the bottom. It makes gameplay so much faster when you can leave the overseer for industry selected, for example, and see how unemployment is doing while you continue gameplay. The UI in the new game is minimal and non-invasive to the experience of the game, but it lacks in utility. Also, I think that the trading system in the base game was fundamentally flawed. Not having trading stations or quays like in Zeus and Emperor means that sometimes, traders will not go to your warehouse to pick a good that you’re trying to export. I lost a Mission 3X in Pharaoh because my treasury hit -5000 DB. Not because I wasn’t exporting, but because the traders we’re not going to the warehouse with all of my exportable goods. They should implement trading stations in this game. Also, there’s no overlay for bazaar access/ distribution, which just seems like oversight.
hi Zach, did you notice that this game has a lot of bugs? i already encountered twice in just 3 play sessions. like Monuments building progress got stuck and the mission won't end even though all goals have been fulfillled?
Yeah it does have a lot of bugs, hopefully they fix those over the next 2 weeks. For the monument, have you checked burial provisions? Make sure you send those in.
@@GamerZakh i played that mission again from scratch and still the bug is there. It wouldn't let me finish the mission after i reached all the objectives. This game is simply not ready to be sold.
Pharaoh and Cleopatra was one of my favorite PC games growing up in the 90’s, and early 2000’s as a Millennial besides AOE and the Sims. I haven’t tried this nee version, and even though I kive the artsy look, I’m not a fan of the graphics or style, as they look too cartoony to me, and in my opinion they ruined the iconic music/soundtrack which was such a huge part of the original game. It was my 1st time hearing Egyptian/Middle Eastern music. I’m sure the pros outweigh the cons, but to me, the original will always be the best. I might pick it up, as the changes seems interesting tho.
I was looking forward quite a bit to this game, but by now I'm disappointed. I've played Medum yesterday and it was bugged to a gamebreaking point. Before any invasion a message came which kind of resulted in a half-frozen game. It kept running, I just couldn't click anything on the UI. Also the pyramid-complex bugged out and they just stopped working on it, even though everything was fine. I had to delete and rebuild it a few times, which is bothersome enough with a smaller one. Apart from that there's some graphical glitches and also the traders have bugged our for me once or twice. I suggest you take things slow with the playthrough, as there are definetly some patches needed. Thank you for covering it in such detail and I hope you will have lots of fun with the game, as I'm looking forward to another playthrough of you. I'm curious what you will do special about it. Shape blocks and forced walker were already covered, so maybe it's time for a best-of? Whatever it will be, I'm sure it's going to be great!
What I don't like about Pharaoh new era is that when you get options which missin you want to choose you can't listen to mission instructions and then go back to listen to the other level mission objective ware you could on the original if I'm wrong could someone tell me how. Love the content in video's Zak keep it up. Peace and love
I didn't even realise it released when it did. Also, it costs like £50 for just the standard edition. Don't have that kind of money to spare right now.
Regarding worker pool, yet another missed opportunity. Instead of a singular global pool, each building should've had their own local worker pools, consisting of all the houses *withing the working range of which* the building is located, and *then* the global worker pool with 50% or less productivity, so as to simulate workplace proximiy and citizens seeking jobs without making it chaotic like the walkers do.
I think by the age of 50 your body would be so wrecked you couldn't work the fields anymore, or you were dead. Looking it up, most are estimated to have died in their 30s. That's if you survived childhood.
I am very disappointed with this. The UI is terrible. No minimap, you can't get to the overseer of Commerce from the world map, when you open a trade route. WTF There are lots of bugs. If I turn some industry off, it still needs workforce. People are talking nonsense. For example, I have a 20% unemployment and they are telling me, that city needs more workers.
How exactly? It's just more pixellated, the artist literally repainted every building and monument to match the original in objectively better quality.
Zakh this game is garbage and it's pretty annoying that you're shilling it. I understand you love these games but this remaster is simply terrible and improves nothing over the original.
Easy to throw around accusations isn't it? Quote me where I shill and let's see if I actually am. It's currently got 68% positive on Steam, meaning if you ask 10 people who played it, 7 people don't just like it, they recommend it. Is that objectively a "garbage" game? Or is it just something 3/10 people hate? Typical, I stay objective and haters say I shill and lovers say I hate.
I mean, 6000 people are playing it on Steam right this second. That puts it in the top 150 games on Steam this weekend. All those people just don't know what they like I guess? Am I saying this will last? No. Could it be improved? Yes. Will it be improved? I don't know but the first quick hotfix is encouraging.
It's a huge step up from their last game, it's a small indie studio and honestly they really just missed QOL steps, which is within the realm of being patched.
Zakh what you think about the numerous bugs and what feels like untied loose ends, should I wait for the devs to provide fixes before carrying on with the game or is it close enough to the original Pharaoh?

In the vanilla making houses and all that jazz just for the industry to run is nothing but hassle, global workpool option is a Godsend~
All these different options yet for some inexplicable reason basics like scroll speed / type and default zoom % didn't make the cut...
It is odd those are missing. They've gotten feedback on their discord for those and they've been voted up quite a bit.
