Respected professor B. S. Dahiya really clearly make us understand the details of the origin of English language and their Alphabet as well as their literatures. The origin of English language is linked to Celtic language Gaelic, Latin French Germanic etc. Absolutely magnificent lecture by Sir. Really beneficial for all especially those who are students of English literature all over the world. Sir nothing omitted. Respected sir discussed every details of the Origin of English language in magnificent way. Really Magnificent lecture. My pronam to Sir.
Although I watched so many vedios about this topic but I must say this is the best lecture i have ever received about this topic,,, thank you so much sir ❤
i thought i am in a class and litensting Dahiya sir live. This is really very helpful for those who are willing to know all about english literature. Thank you so much .
If u really want to understand literature nd history of english language, then this video is legend, u no need to go anywhere, thankyu so much everyone on this channel 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤✌✌✌
The way of your speaking is elegant. And it become more easier to understand when u give examples in the history of India and interlink it with England. Mind blowing sir 💯💯🔥🙏
Actually it was Beowulf who is the hero of the epic BEOWULF. Grendel is the monster whom Beowulf kills and he kills his mother too. But it was just a slip of tongue on the part of Prof. Dahiya otherwise he is a renowned scholar of English Literature. Thanks a lot to Prof. Dahiya and the production team for this informative and enriching series on History of English Literature.
one of my curiosity was the history of English literature and finally I found this video. nice explanation and obviously I enjoyed this. Thank you Sir.
It was a good lecture although you made a mistake when explaining beowulf you mentioned that grendel was a hero who slain monsters but it was beowulf who was a scandanavian hero who came for the aid of King Hrothger as the monster Grendel was devouring his men and causing chaos at the mede hall. Upon slaying grendel beowulf again slays grendel's mother and then became a king ruling for 50 years and his final battle was with a dragon where beowulf was mortally wounded and both the dragon and beowulf died in that battle.
Its been ages I ve listened to a lecture of this kind. Mesmerising way of explaining. This is why the current generation teachers are no match to the older generation teachers. Old is gold.
7:47 - Julius Caesar did indeed attack 'Britain' (It was not 'England' until after the Anglo-Saxon invasions) twice, but he never conquered it. Britain was conquered under the rule of 'Claudius', who was grandson of 'Octavian', better known as 'Caesar Augustus', adopted son of 'Julius Caesar'.
Best ever lecture i have seen on English literature. Thanks ...But sorry to say sir Grendel was not hero of poem but Beowulf is the hero who can also be considered monster when it comes to his courage and strength but he was not bad character in epic poem .Sir if am wrong plzzzz help me ..
I have noted many important points which are often asked in Exams ....My professor suggest me to hear your all lectures....thanks a lot dear sir... And wishes to CES team for this very fruitful session to Eng.lite. students and aspirants ....
Briton spoke Brythonic Ireland spoke Goidelic. There were various Brythonic Kingdoms that was side by side with the Invading Anglo Saxons that came in 450AD. The Brythonic Kingdom of Elmet, Strathclyde.Goddodin and Cumbric. England is named after the Anglos a tribe from Denmark. My ancestors spoke Cumbric Brythonic or Old Welsh its called now.
I like this video. He's a good teacher. He presents himself well and he's pleasant to listen to. But at around 38:00 he lost me a little. If you look at maps from the time Beowulf was composed, probably the 10th or 11th century, it's not clear to me they even understood Africa and Asia to be separate continents as we have come to understand since the 16th century, much less places to one day be conquered. Epic poetry does indeed seem to come from times of conflict, or "dark" ages. The Iliad, Exodus, Mahabharata... and yes Beowulf. But I think it's reading circumstances from our time into the story to find in it conquest of a world they could not have known. Perhaps Grendel does represent another people, but I think it would have to be someone closer to home. Maybe this is analogous to the Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh and the killing of the monster Humbaba. Being associated with a cedar forest, Humbaba sounds like a reference to Lebanon, which is relatively close to Sumer. Perhaps the dragon, as per Arthur Pendragon, could have represented the Celtic people of Britain who were being displaced by Germanic immigrants. Grendel? Perhaps another tribe, like the Picts; a Neolithic tribe which the writer/s of Beowulf understood to be related to the Celts. Please accept this as a friendly argument in the spirit of understanding. I look forward to watching more of these videos. Even if I disagree with something here or there, I appreciate that he offers a new (to me) and interesting point of view.
Your criticism was informative too but I think you could have been more respectful. I am not saying you were impolite or a troll either but just due to the fact that the professor is senior and not your colleague and apart from that this video is free of cost for people like me. The professor in that video is imparting his knowledge free of cost. We are lucky doordarshan still does this. I am sure in some years nothing will be free of cost.
Thankyou respected Sir, thankyou so much sir, none have explained it so well, was searching UA-cam for past ten years but there was no clarity in there lecture, have heard of Arpita karwa she is just giving the glimpse for 9-10 min and rest were for paid subscription... Most of the students can't afford such amount, We thanks CEC for this great work, this is actual humanity, sharing the knowledge for all equally. CEC❤ Its just marketisation of education which the other youtubers are doing, and that too with no clarity.. Just mode of earning money.
I never heard such a clear lecture on this subject. My heartily thanks to you Sir....
So transparent, so elegant, so beautiful. It is not like a mere university lecture, but Prof. Dahiya is telling us a story.
