This is such a treasure in a time when almost nobody remembers their "homec" classes and we actually have a commercial pattern for the same gathered skirt I made in 7th grade in about '54 and 4-H in '56. I have past lives as a seamstress in Paris. As a tiny child I watched my mom make ruffled sheer curtains for 4 windows plus a bay window. She made my Easter dresses and a classic red wool coat fit for a princess. I recently read "Sidonia's Threads" and the two sequels. I was thrilled to read about beautifully made real-life clothes like yours. When I married, I bought a polyester organza dress for $400. It was costume and not heirloom! Thank you, Sally, for sharing your beautiful work!
Dear MimiRouth, Thank you for this wonderful message. I am so happy you enjoyed watching this and I am SO happy hearing of your experiences and the red coat! I am not familiar with the books you mentioned but am going to look into this. Thank you for that, too! Happy Sewing! 💝
Hi, Sally, So glad you liked this. Thank you! Yes, I do a LOT of work by hand before using a machine. I have learned over the years that it helps the accuracy of everything fitting well together and actually saves me time in the long run. Happy Sewing!
Hello, Lightseskr, Thank you! I am happy you enjoyed this video. I would love to help with your slopers if I could. I do private consultations if you would be interested. You can check this out on my webste: sewwithsally.com If you have a question I can answer you can also leave it here. Best wishes!
Hello, again, Have you seen my video on pant sloper/resources ? In the description box I mention several companies that can make a sloper for you with your measurements. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/8sDbJKAym8M/v-deo.htmlsi=v8Le-EN4lGIJcB8i Perhaps this will help you. Even if you get a sloper CLOSE to your shape, youcan probably tweak it to fit. Good luck!
Hello, Laura, Thank you for telling me that you were a dressmaker! I am thrilled to find another soul who does this. I am sorry you are not able to do this now but understand. Have a wonderful day. Thank you again for writing.
I just discovered your channel. Wow. You are an excellent teacher. I watched the how to make a sloper playlist with Morgan as the model. I am looking forward to learning more from you. I have a request - I am super large and fitting myself is quite the challenge. If you ever have the opportunity, I’d appreciate seeing you fit a RTW size 32 or thereabouts. I dream of making myself beautiful clothes but fit has always been a stumbling block. ❤
Hello, Miriam, Welcome aboard! I am thrilled you are happy with my teaching and tutorials. I would be so happy to work with a larger person. When the pandemic started I stopped working with models and am not sure when I will have the opportunity to do this again but will keep your request in mind. If you watch my tutorial on the pant sloper, in the description box I mention sites that can take your measurements and make slopers for you. I have also seen companies that can do the same with patterns, or so I think I have seen this. This situation may be helpful for you. Best wishes and Happy Sewing!
Thank you for sharing your exquisite workmanship and elegant taste. One question: did you interface the collars of the two dresses made from Liberty of London prints? Also, I would be most interested to learn what are your views about interfacings in general, and what kinds do you use?
Hello, Mary, Thank you for your kind words. I did not interface the collars of the Liberty of London dresses. I believe if you go back and look again, I mention how I did make them. Also, I have a video on interfacings. I almost never use fusible these days. Here's a link to that video: ua-cam.com/video/CHivR9HlFCY/v-deo.html Thank you for watching and for commenting. Have a wonderful day and HAPPY SEWING!

Love these, especially the plaid coat and jacket. I appreciate knowing there are bits you do by hand for accuracy and then machine stitch.
