  • I take a trip to a Grady White 251 for some cover installs. Then it's off to a Regal 38 to scan the center engine with the Yamaha Dongle. Finally we head to a old Regal that has been sitting for a while to see if we can get it to start.

    Great job, I have not encountered this problem with my Volvo Pent 4.3L as of yet, but good to know how to diagnose. Where do you get the Engine Scan Software for the laptop? This would be good to have.

    Justin can you make a video explaining why Outboards versus Inboards from a maintenance perspective here in Florida?

    Not sure if youll see this comment, but what program are you using for diagnostic on thr VP 5.7L. Was there specific connections younhad to buy to connect to the ECM?

      They sell a kit online. It's Diacom software and harness.

    Great video. What, and where did you plug into the engine to get those readings? Is this available to the average Volvo Penta boat owner? Or is it too cost prohibitive, etc.?

      We are a dealer for Volvo so we have the software but I do know most people use Diacom to scan the engines. It comes as a kit. Not sure the cost. Thanks for watching.

      That was Diacom he was using on the Volvo. Rinda is the name of the company that sells it. They also have a hand held scan tool with a few less features that's a little cheaper.

    Great Diagnostic Video. I’m getting the 337-“CKP signal loss “ on my techmate pro. Tried a new sensor, new pigtail like you did and still getting the same error. Any ideas as to what this could be? Also where do you recommend getting wiring diagrams for the Volvo engines. Thanks!

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  Рік тому +1

      It could be the connection at the ECU or a bad ECU. Wiring harness could also be bad. You will need to test the wiring. I would buy the Volvo Penta OEM manual. This will give you wiring diagrams.

    • @lg8215
      @lg8215 Рік тому

      @@JustinLeeMarine thanks for the reply. It ended up being the signal cable. I ran a new signal cable from the pigtail to the ecu and I got rpm and spark back. Weird because engine will still not fire up. I have good fuel pressure and have spark but it won’t even try to fire up. Checked the spark plugs and they are sparking just fine outside.

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  Рік тому +1

      If the fuel is old it will also not fire up. It has to have at least 2 month old gas or newer. Low octane will also cause the problem. You can pour some fresh gas into the intake and see if it fires up. Then you know it's fuel related.

    • @lg8215
      @lg8215 Рік тому

      @@JustinLeeMarine did exactly that and nothing. I have fuel. I have spark and fuel is only about 4 weeks old. It ran perfect, smooth idle only 279 hours on the engine before the signal wire loss. I’m about to buy a new engine harness harness. Off timing somehow? It’s all I can think of at this point.

    • @lg8215
      @lg8215 Рік тому

      Also, it’s a twin engine so the port engine runs perfectly fine on the same fuel

    Do you have time to come diagnose one at Clearwater beach. I have the same problem. I don’t have that computer set up like you though.

      I am sorry. I don't work at Quality Boats anymore. They had Volvo software. I work at Marine Max now. All Mercury products. A good local company called Blue Water Marine works on Volvo. I would give them a call. Thank you for watching.

    good video. pretty stupid that boats don't use a generic diagnostic port like OBD2 on cars.

      I agree. Seems to be how the future is going for everything now. Manufacturers don't want you working on your own stuff. They want the money to return to them. Thanks for watching.

    Justin I live in Fort Lauderdale. Do you have a mobile boat mechanic buddy you can recommend? I have a no start situation with my 2004 VP 5.7 GI-E. Im thinking ignition coil. Looks like original. Ran perfect 2 weeks ago. Yesterday.....no start.

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  2 роки тому

      I am sorry but I don't know anyone in that area to recommend. Sounds like you are on the right path. Compression, spark, air and fuel are the only things you need for a motor to run.

      @@JustinLeeMarine Thanks Justin. I really enjoy watching your videos. Wish you were closer to us over here. Im worried about snapping those bolts holding the ignition coil to the engine since they are so hard to get to.

      @@markfiniziosr.1947 Justin I did change the ignition coil but still Cranks NO Spark. Im thinking the crank sensor issue may be the same for me. My tach doesnt move while I crank the engine. I dont have the computer like you do and I cant find a guy to come out to my house because they are so swamped or they only work on outboards. If my wiring and plug are good on the crank pos sensor, how can I test if the sensor itself may be the issue? FYI I have 50 lbs fuel pressure at the rail and about 12 lbs on the low side. New batteries, new dist cap/rotor, new ignition coil, and jumped the kill switch just in case. Only 300 hours on the boat. Help.

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  2 роки тому

      I would put a new crank position sensor on it first and go from there. It doesn't hurt to put new parts on the motor to know you are starting with good.
