I had to skip the MLK thing for the moment. This type of blanket hatred for white people makes me sick. Doubly so when coming from professing Christians. (And I am not even white, I am 100% Puerto Rican.) This garbage has no place among God's people. Right now I am struggling with my home church promoting some event with Jackie Hill Perry who is full on board with this stuff. I sent them a videoclip from her website and even cleaned up the auto transcript. We'll see if they even watch/read it. The event is coming up and I haven't received any notice saying they're cancelling it. I loathe this filth.
The complete lack of support - not just silence, but actively being against them! - for pastors who were literally IN JAIL for simply opening their churches and not turning people away left me stunned. I even sent the information to my leadership, just in case they had not heard about it. They did not agree, would not support them, and explicitly said they didn't consider it persecution. Rereading some of the emails now, I still can't believe it.
@@erincoates80 Thank you all for standing up for what is right! I am in America but seeing the pastors in Canada gave me hope at a time when I was ready to give up. I was so alone, with my church closed and later not allowed in without a mask. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I prayed that God would take me home on more than one occasion. Things were that bad.
@@Yesica1993 oh my heart 😭, I am so sorry, friend. What a dark night fell upon so many. Thank you for sharing with me, may the Lord continue to transform you into His likeness 🌸
Confessional Lutheran at the back of the class. If I may make some remarks... 1.) Regarding homosexuality-I don't think those in the church who are trying to normalize it realize that, if you twist Scripture to excuse this sin, you open the door to twist Scripture to normalize other sins. The same logic that dismisses the biblical teaching on this can also be used for premarital sex, adultery, incest, rape, etc. The world is already doing this with softening the view of pedophilia: you'll notice that the term "pedophile" is being replaced with "minor-attracted individual." 2.) The CRT arguments fall flat on their face. We live in a country where non-whites have been elected to multiple public offices, have achieved status in academic and business endeavors, have received notoriety and financial success in sports and entertainment, and somehow that is still not enough for these extremist activists. Racism activists depend on a black-and-white (pun intended) view of all things, with data that only serves their purpose. They dismiss out of hand anything that does not fit their narrative, like a child plugging his ears and crying "Na-na-na! I can't hear you!" What's more, Scripture already deals with ethnic prejudice. That people like the TGC authors are running to the world to define the terms and solutions is a telling admission of their rejection of the sufficiency of Scripture. 3.) As a Lutheran, I am VERY glad that you emphasized that "repentance is not the gospel." Repentance is a RESPONSE to the gospel--a necessary one, yes, but it is a response. When you say "repentance is the gospel," you take a step in the direction of salvation by works. And... repentance is not something that merely happens at conversion: it is a regular part of the Christian's life. We daily repent for our sins in confessing them to God and asking for forgiveness through Christ's work on the cross for us. 4.) I've made this statement before, but the liberalism that seems to be running rampant at TGC and other Calvinist establishments seems to coincide with the death of R.C. Sproul in 2017. You don't see this massive slide into liberalism by Tim Keller, TCG, Matt Chandler, etc., until after he died. I suspect that Sproul was a strong confessional anchor for a great deal of the Calvinist world, and that those who were harboring any liberalism waited until after his passing to become more emboldened about broadcasting it. Perhaps this is an unintended consequence of Ligonier Ministries in that Sproul was inadvertently put on a pedestal, but his death seemed to be the removal of a safety valve on many Calvinist institutions and individuals. Take from that what you will.
TGC invited my church to join. I am pleased to report that the church consistory (elders) declined the invitation. They won’t nothing to do with them. (I attend a Reformed church).
Rittenhouse was not holding a weapon, it was secured around his neck with a sling. His hands were in the air, & he walked off before anyone had a clue what was going on; I hear a riot was happening at the time or something. Roof was just driving around when he was caught. He was completely complaint, you can look up video of his arrest. He wanted to be caught, he wanted to be a martyr, he genuinely thought he was going to start a race war. I suspect all of those “unarmed” men shot by police do things very differently. Absolutely idiocy by TCG allowing that garbage to be published.
At this point after listening to all these articles they should rename themselves the different gospel coalition because these articles are basically preaching a different and heretical gospel.
I just received an invitation to The Getty’s Sing Conference in Nashville and the speakers include some of TGC’s stars. So sad since I love their music.
So, on the “Making Space for a Multicultural Christmas”, if I did incorporate African(or any other culture) themes wouldn’t I then be guilty of Cultural Appropriation?
Ed Shaw article: It seems they have adopted the world's idea that "homosexual" is something you just are. The "born that way" idea. Therefore, as long as you don't act on your desires, it's okay to have those desires. Or at least it's morally neutral to have them. There's a fine line here. Yes, we all struggle in different ways and with different sins. Some people are immediately delivered from addiction to drugs/alcohol and never have the desire again. Other people still are tempted and struggle, even if they don't act on it. The question of why God works differently with different people is not the issue here. That's His doing. He has every right to work in people's lives the way He sees fit. The key is that when you are regenerate, God changes and continues to change your heart to love what He loves and hate what He hates. You are convicted about your sins and know that even the desire is wrong. Jesus spoke to that directly when He said if you look at a woman with lust, you've already committed adultery in your heart. You may not have done anything physically. But the desire, itself, is sin. This is Bible 101 level stuff. Why is any of this remotely complicated for people who are leaders in churches and of ministries?!
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. Temptation isn't sin, but it is a warning zone. Terms such as SSA sound quite benign until you compare them with "lured and enticed." And SSA is not a far leap from minor-attracted persons. It's not hard to see where this is heading. God's calling is to put all sinful desire to death (see Romans 6; Col. 3).
Jon! You're spot on about why many of us are interested in your TGC content. They're fuzzy on so many issues that they should be clear about. This causes many to wonder what side they're on. We're often left scratching our heads on why they don't land squarely on biblical ground.
If I was Venezuelan and had recently come to this country, I would celebrate the Fourth of July with a greater fervor than anyone else, going from a totalitarian government to being free.
The one thing that jumped out at me in this video is that conservative Christian “horizontal” connections and relationships with non-believers through patriotism are bad, but somehow similar connections by liberal, or “third-way”, Christians are virtuous. Article 13 really drives this idea home. From the article… “In many of my relationships with non-believers, apologetics became a valuable tool after a relational connection formed” The above statement assumes common interests NOT based on Christianity. This prompts two questions. 1. On what basis, or through what common interests, are Gen-Z Christians forming bonds “horizontally”? 2. How are those relationships different than bonds of patriotism?
Let's not forget how Tullian was once a TGC writer, too. 🤦♀ I have to admit though, I used to think they were a decent resource. I was wrong. And that has become super evident over the past few years.
I just read "The New Calvinists, Changing the Gospel" by ES Williams. It helped me to understand the roots of TGC. I didn't realize that it was started by Tim Keller. Thank you for speaking truth!!
"Before the end you will see a great falling away". We are living in the time of the "strong delusion" and the great falling away has been in motion for nearly a century now. We are just witnessing the final death spiral. Judgement is on the way.
I enjoy your commentary Jon and one of my best friends is a democrat who is not a Christian and is black. He is comfortable coming to my house and watching football and basketball even though I am unashamed of my love for Jesus and my conservative political views. I will confess I am more angry at white people who claim to be a Christian and vote democrat than I am of any sins my white ancestors committed. Please pray for me Jon.
As far as Im concerned the churches that closed their doors missed out on the biggest opportunity to testify of God's power and Gospel to the world. Sadly, the church bowed to the state and closed their doors thus shutting out many hurting, scared, needy, broken people. Despicable! What Would Jesus Do (WWJD) they always tout, yet what DID they do? Allow fear to rule. I have lost all desire to attend these organizations. We are to BE the Church and just meet together to fellowship and hear the Word of God so we can worship and be strengthened to go out into the world and preach the Gospel. The REAL Gospel not a watered down version of it. Yep church is 🤢🤮
They have some teachers that I really like and trust at TGC but then I see them speaking at conferences with teachers that I avoid. That gives me great concern about the teachers at TGC that like and have trusted so far. When I see Platt and Wilkin on the list I’m going the other way I don’t care who else is there.
So is there anything good about tgc? Is it still worth reading? I used to have their app on phone and I would occasionally read some articles but I found them losing their way. Too bad. They had such promise a few years ago.
Egalitarianism in the world system imported into 'biblical' ministry? Maybe I don't remember that one as part of this if you did, but I'm sure that would be misogynistic.
1:00:00 You know, I almost agree with this one--or at least, I disagree less than I disagree with the others to this point. It's surely right and proper to be thankful for a country that--historically, at least--has allowed the church great freedom and has set an environment in which she can be very fruitful. It's right and proper to be thankful for the material blessings we have in that country. It's right to love our country, and we're commanded to seek its welfare. But... As much as "Christian nationalism" is used as a club to try to shut down all of the above, you know as well as I that there are churches of which it's true. When a church sings "Make America Great Again" during a service, that's well across the line. When a church is decorated front to back, top to bottom, in flags, streamers, and bunting, that's going too far. When the hymns for the service are "God Bless America," "America," and the battle hymn of the Republic, that's going too far. We're there to gather as God's people in public worship. We can--and should--give thanks for our country, and pray for its preservation, well-being, and repentance, but the purpose of the service is (or ought to be) to worship and glorify God. We confuse that at our peril. 1:08:46 "When Christians Aren't Serious Thinkers" Really? Physician, heal thyself. Surely not all of Gen Z are this way, but they're the generation most known for abandoning thought altogether in favor of feelings.
Why cant a church body love their country? It sounds like you harbor a bitter attitude toward Americans and America. We can celebrate where we live and there isnt a single thing wrong with that bibically. God gave us this country amd we can enjoy it to the fullest.
What a great example of Titus 1:9-11. “ He [an elder] must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach-and that for the sake of dishonest gain.”
