  • **UPDATE (SEE BELOW)
Board at home, and trying out these pickups. Here's the result.
    00:00:04. Existing Pickup Test
    00:00:58 Installation
    00:02:22 EMG JAX Test
    00:04:14 In Conclusion
These are hi-fi sounding pickups- aggressive and clear highs, scooped mids and a lot of fun. Installation was a breeze for anyone with basic knowledge of simple circuitry and following a diagram- no solder needed! The tone rolloff sounds a bit funny, but otherwise these do their intended purpose. great buy for the $$.
**UPDATE 2/18/21: I have now swapped these JAX out for the JVX set and they're WAY more useful! Many love the JAX set themselves, but for what I do, they were a bit too "Hi-Fi"; Ultra clear and transparent in the top end, not a lot of mids and the bottom was sterile. The JVX set is more well rounded in every measure. I can use these. Vid coming.

Be sure to read all of these comments. I’m glad you really like the sound of these pick ups… I didn’t. I think it’s a pretty good explanation video though. I ended up changing these out for the J VX model, and frankly I haven’t touched that Bass I think since I put ‘em in! Your comment reminded me to pick it up again and see if I still like the JVX! This is all experimentation… My favorites are still Bartolini, Nordstrand, Aguilar.

@@udawggy Noted! But I've learned, as you said, some pickups don't work with some basses....

Wow, this is a great example of how a J should sound. Org pickups were nice sounding classic J bars. New EMG JAX were MUCH HOTTER and super clear, and had a nice sound and growl but may not be for everyone.

I wonder if you would like the EMGs with the exposed pole pieces better, the vintage-looking JVX.

Come to think of it, I have a set of those as well, and since these are modular, I'll throw them in and give em a shot. The JAX aren't bad, just to "Hi-Fi" for what I do. I really wish I could try them in a band setting though!

I’ve just seen this video with my headphones on. These pickups provide clarity but… don’t You think there’s too much hissing sound? When You turned tone knob it dissapeared so it’s not the interface. I need something for my lakland and was thinking about These but… not anymore. I already have unwanted frequencies. :) Perhaps I want too much? :) Any suggestions for lakland 5594 deluxe 2001?

Hello! Read one of the comments below- I took these out and have installed the JVX now, which have a much better, fuller, rounder sound than these. I've never been a fan of EMG's, but with time on my hands I figured it was time to give them a try. My fav's so far are Bartolini (you cant go wrong here), Nordstrands, and Aguilar 70's single coils. These JAX are just too crisp. I'm leaving the JVX's in... for now. Experimenting.
