- Greetings fellow humans. In today’s episode, we’re speaking with saxophonist and composer Nicole Glover. We discussed working with Gene Perla, the importance of passing down the tradition through mentorship, growing up in Portland and the music scene there, the perspective a day job can give you and why you should try and maintain it, how to achieve faster musical growth by going outside your comfort zone, how just being a nice person can potentially elevate your career, dealing with negative energy, and much more.

It’s weird listening to pre-2020 interviews. Like looking through a time machine.
Love her story...booker ervin was a draftsman, dave pike sold music in a music store. Nicole hearing ornette and dolphy from her fathers records. Surrounded by mulgrew miller, harold mabern, andrew hill. I can hear all of this in her playing! Love her!...a question i always like to hear is what kind of horn do you play and why did you choose it?...being a nice person was a great question. Years ago i was lucky enough to meet ahmad jamal, sonny rollins and lee konitz and what struck me was how gracious, patient and kind they were. Iam sure part of it was seeing the world and meeting hundreds of people from different cultures gives you an open mind about humanity.
Fine player. She used to live upstairs from me, so i often heard her practice. Never got to play with or for her though. Best wishes, nicole!
Nicole is amazing. Killed on Rodney Green's Jackson Miller with Smalls Live today. Incredible interview. Raw and beautiful.
Oh shit, I met her last time I was in NY. We met at John Ledbetter's shop. He might be a good guy to interview too.
She sounds like a great leader. Good luck! Hope to hear you play one day.
Very inspiring!!
Very well spoken! And yea I also just saw her at Leadbetter’s shop while I was trying some horns lol.
