Very cool interview. I live out in the California desert and love NYC Jazz so my main outlet is Smalls Livestream and other streams from NYC when I can find them and taking Skype lessons from NYC musicians. I remember seeing Miki from way back playing at Smalls jams and over time starting to playing in groups at Smalls, so I feel I've watched her grow up musically. Then when Miki was hosting the Mezzrow Jam and now see her playing with name artists and continuing to grow. So really cool getting to hear Miki talk about how shes got to where she's at now.
Yay Miki! My daughter and I saw Miki with the Roxy Coss group when they came to Spokane, WA recently. Her playing was great!

Great interview. The whole jam session scene sucks, man. Too many cats that vibe everybody because they don't know these stupid chestnuts. Drives me nuts. Save yourself heartache, man. Join a band, learn tunes and play. When you know enough tunes these wankers know, then maybe you can go out and play those things but the whole scene just ends up being a Battle Royale which is not what music is about. Also...everyone sounds the same because they copy each other. No subtlety anymore. It's just everyone talking at the same time the same thing.
