I think your a wonderful mechanic to spend the time and setup as u have iv built many of my own transmissions most come out well last one was the old 48re in a Dodge ram deisel defanatly needs lots more cooling than the zf 9 does difference in vehicle size and weight being pulled but this is setup like an Allison impressive. I will be pulling one to build in 20k miles 2016 jeep remagade been a reliable vehicle period want to put a Cummins 2.8 diesel in front of it.

    Follow-on here; the 3-5-R steel used to compress the C Belleville spring needs to be the smaller of the two listed in references like WIT, which they show as 6 3/8 ID, P/N 45126B. The other suffixes are shown as 6 3/4" ID, and that's too big to fit in the inside diameter of the piston. Not all of us have shops with parts laying around. It cost me a few bucks and some time to find this out.

This transmission is rated for 350 lbs torque and I would like to know if it is at all possible to increase that number more into the neighborhood of 400 to 450 . I’m being told to change the oil next but there is a bit of confusion over the spec as the LR023288 is equivalent to lifeguard 8 , ZF appear to recommend Lifegaurd 9 . Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

      @siuautomotive  3 роки тому +4

      I do know that dodge uses the same fluid for the 8 and 9 speeds. Regarding your hard shift, they have issues with the c clutch return spring snap ring popping out of its groove. That clutch is used in 2nd, 6th, and 8th. I wonder if it’s not allowing the c clutch to return as it’s released and cause a harsh shift? If you have two hours to burn, I have another video going through the theory.

      @@siuautomotive thank you for your reply , I have watched you other video tutorial which is excellent and very in depth , it is very hard to find anything out about this transmission in the UK , is it possible that the fault could be caused by a sticking/ dirty proportional valve or as you have suggested more likely to be in a clutch pack , there are no errors in the TCU , what controls the blending between the gears ? so is this likely to be a problem with clutch C not disengaging or could it also be clutch B not engaging correctly . I would be grateful for any advice you can give me 🙏

      The best fluid I've found to replace all trans fluids is the John Deere hi gaurd low viscosity hydraulic fluid it was designed for gear box applications such as this and is a much better fluid both for wear and clutch engagement remember jd uses friction and steels inside for not just clutches but brakes as well it is a much better fluid but I have never used it in a zf 9 I have in 48re Ford c and several others wonderful success but not tried in the zf9 yet.

      Well, Honda has had better luck with it than Jeep. The manufacturers are responsible for writing their own software for shift timing and shift quality. I know that Jeep has many software updates to improve the shift quality and Honda doesn’t have near the updates. That kind of tells me that Honda is better at figuring this transmission out. I will say that I think Honda is using this trans as a stepping stone until they get their own 10-speed perfected. My assumption is that in the future, most Honda’s and Acura’s will have the 10-speed or a cvt.

    Here in Brazil, these boxes are problematic, especially on Land Rovers. Here at the workshop I changed the oil in one and it subsequently developed a defect. I suspect it could already cause the defect and I just anticipated the problem. They stop moving, the customer starts/stops the car and it starts working again. I've seen Land Rover recalling this transmission even though the car is not under factory warranty.

      @siuautomotive  3 роки тому

    • @C25A1guy
      @C25A1guy 3 роки тому

      1st, visit the dealership to see if there's any software update. If you're outside of your warranty, this is going to be an out of pocket expense. Another thing we've discovered is a dirty throttle body can cause harsh upshifts due to a need to reduce torque when shifting into the overdrive gears (when looking at live data, anything more than 5-8nm force on the throttle motor is excessive)

    • @pmo5821
      @pmo5821 3 роки тому

      Design-wise the 4-5 and 7-8 upshifts involve releasing a dog clutch and applying a friction clutch. The ideal shift is to overlap the apply and release timings to have a smooth transition. However with dog clutch release, if the timing is even slightly off there will be either a torque “bump” or a torque “hole” because of their on/off nature.

      I think as long as you swap among Jeep parts, you'll be okay. In talking with the ZF trainer, he says that all the Jeep cases and internals are built in the FCA/Stellantis plant in Indiana, whereas all the Honda and Land Rover cases and parts are built in the ZF plant in South Carolina. I've had them both apart and side by side, and other than valve body, they all fit together and appear the same dimension wise. You can tell, however, that the parts are casted differently.

      @@siuautomotive I''m wondering if a 2.4l or a 2.0l engine transmission case excluding bellhousing is same as 3.2l, with the bellhousing serving to adapt the tranny to different engines. Also, if all 948TE have the same set of gear ratios and clutch packs, in other words a "universal" internal hard parts design, very good for manufacturing efficiency. I notice the 2.4l and 3.2l use the same valve body part number. Are different engines then managed by TCM so they can use the same tranny internals? What is your observation? Sorry if i seem to belabor the issue, but better to measure twice and cut once, as they say.

    Hello~ My 2019 Civic Diesel 9AT just reached 20000 miles and the shifting is problematic to me. The issues are: 1. Shifting from 1st-2nd is usually hash & pushing hard even mild throttle 2. Very weird when the car shifts from 4th-5th gear, the car often "hard engine brake" when mild accelerating and everyone's head will dip. But this will not happen if accelerating rapidly. I am going to bring it back to Honda for further checking but I am afraid they will say "unable to replicate the issue". so worrying

      I have the exact same car and same transmission. For me it shifts hard when going from 4th to 5th when going slow. If you drive at 42 kmph, it is the worst manifestation and you hear a loud click or hit.
      It started around 30k km.
      It was under warranty and they replaced the oil, battery (!!). It did not help, as the issue remained. They told me it is normal shifting for this transmission ZF9
      Regarding replicating issue, this is what i found:
      1) gear box has to be warm, so drive for approx 20-30mins
      2) slowly speed up from 30kmph to 50kmph and at 42kmph the jerky shift will occur
      3) engine rpm will be around 1700 when it happens
      let me know how you sorted it out. In one other video, they replaced the pressure sensor: ua-cam.com/video/MM40QLo5E5M/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TimLampe

      Mechanical reliability doesn't seem to be an issue with these especially on late models. Just keep the fluid freshened up once in a while.
