    Always skipped the warranties, but with the price of repairs skyrocketing, I’ve changed my mind.
    I got the extended warranty on my ‘18 Honda. Glad I did, already saved me thousands in repairs.
    Spouses ‘16 jeep needed some major engine work, covered under warranty.
    Definitely getting the warranty on my next jeep.

    I have never bought an extended warranty because if something is going to fail it is usually during the warranty period. Save your money to pay for something if it does break.

    With these “new” cars… yes you should consider it

    I bought the extended warranty on my Jeep Gladiator. Gives me peace of mind.

    Most wrangler/gladiator owners modify these vehicles with lifts, big tires, regears and guess what happens when you take your modified vehicle with issues to the dealer.

      It would depend on what the issue is.

    I didn't buy an extended warranty when I bought my Jeep Gladiator Willys. I never received that letter in the mail. Good thing though, because I would have thrown it away. I don't do extended warranties on new vehicle purchases. Used vehicles are another story, due to the fact you have no idea if they are someone's headache they abused or just a lemon they got rid of.

    I have purchased extended warranties in the past and for the most part have never needed to use them. The one time I did use it for an electric window problem all I got was a coverage hassle from the dealer. It took almost 2 months to finally get the issue resolved.

    Those plans are the dealer betting nothing with go wrong and you betting something with go wrong! My brother got the plan for his Ram and 13 months old the transmission went out,they put in a new one and it cost him nothing. So they are great if something goes wrong!

      Yep. And since it's a Jeep, it *will* have issues. That's just an unfortunate fact of life.

    Aloha Rob. You have the option to obtain Car Shield or Endurance beyond the manufacturers warranty. These two items enables you to cover the repair costs that will be very expensive. Great video topic Rob.

    The Mopar extended warranty IS AVAILABLE online. It would be interesting to check the price you were given versus the online price.

    my wife and I use AAA for roadside and a lot of car insurance companies offer that service as well. As for the warranty I did purchase electronic component coverage for my loaded Mojave but as a general rule a simple savings account works well. Just pay yourself, earn a little interest and have a forever vehicle repair account. Requires discipline but you know 100% for certain it will be needed at some point for a planned unplanned maintenance sooner or later. Makes those new tire replacements, 4-wheel drive service or the top end repair for that bad camshaft much less painful. Literally paying it forward.

    Thanks for the video. I agree with your rationale if you only keep within the original warranty.

    Whenever the dealer pushes extended warranty tell them their product is too dependable there's no need for an extended. They get a blank look on their face. How can they argue with that.

    I'm not a fan of extended warranties, but I bought a Maxcare 5 year/100,000 mile warranty on my used WK2 and it paid for itself in 2 years. If you wheel your Jeep at all you've got to consider this. Not to mention the wonky electrical crap for which Jeeps (unfortunately) are well known. When a locker or electric swaybar disconnect fails that's a 4-figure repair right off the hop. Smash your diff open? Many thousands. Start throwing codes up the wazoo after a water crossing? Good luck with that paying out of pocket. I would never consider owning a newer Jeep without it. You can also get good discounts from certain dealers that sell a ton of Maxcare warranties. I found a CDJR dealer in Adrian, MI that offered it about $600 lower than where I bought my Trailhawk in N.J. And yeah, trip interruption coverage when you're halfway across the continent and need to hang out in a motel for a week pending parts, you'll be thankful. Trust me here. Just do it.

    • @robmotiveplus
      @robmotiveplus  Місяць тому

      But aren’t there exceptions if the damage is by fault of the owner? Like smashing that diff while off-roading?

    • @W2IRT
      @W2IRT Місяць тому +2

      @@robmotiveplus Depends on the dealer, to be honest. If it's something completely egregious then they'll probably try to wriggle out of it but for average trail conditions (it's badged as "trail rated," remember) you'll be fine. Honestly I would buy it for electrical issues, covering lockers and disconnects, etc, more than drive train. I'd only worry about the drivetrain over about 75000 miles (esp. the Pentastar's valve issue that will wreck an engine under 100k). Transmissions are robust, but driveshafts, U-joints, steering components, etc (if you don't upgrade everything) will get expensive if or when they go. I also don't ever trust turbos to last in trail conditions, and you *really* don't want to know what that costs if you have the 2.0.
