Awesome, looks like Lake Elsinore has gotten an early start to their blooming season. When I used to live in Palmdale, nearby the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, seemed like mid-March till mid-April is when their poppies would start to bloom.

Its actually a partial federal land. The state has no jurisdiction for some areas. Additionally, signs need to be posted along all road sites indicating the violation if parked.

It’s only a 50 minute drive from my house and I LOVE nature but I’m glad there closing this area off to protect it. I’ve seen plants and flowers destroyed by humans. So when it becomes a problem some things need to be done to stop the Disrespect by humans. Everything has a cause and effect.

There are so many ways to enable people to enjoy the unique and natural beauty in your area without this confrontational approach. I’ve seen two years in a row where people park on the side of the I15 and cars are driving very fast so it’s a dangerous situation. Also people were leaving trash and some people were pooping there. I don’t blame the city for doing this because they really did try to open the area but people who were there did not respect nature.
It’s totally unfair to restrict CA from enjoying our state flowers in full bloom. They could at least build parking structures or have cars park somewhere where there are buses taking sightseers to the poppies, like how Hearst Castle manages visitors’ cars. Trails can be created to have visitors only walk along those trails to see these flowers and not walk out of bounds, failure of which would be an immediate fine (with signs posted everywhere).
I live there several years and it was chaos some people would even defecate on site due to the lack of bathrooms. There were signs asking the public to remain on the trails but the people preferred to trample the flowers for instagram pictures. This is why they closed it as a last resort.

People like to complain because they can't go and see some flowers. Most people don't realize it was way more than just people on trails. People were stopping cars ON the freeway, emergency vehicles couldn't get through, hikers were injured, people were bitten by snakes, restaurants ran out of food, gas stations were out of gas, people were trespassing into other people's property, locals couldn't go about their daily lives... All so you could get a few pics for social media. Yeah I think I'll pass.
