  • This video covers all the bases on the American darts game of cricket.
    What the scoreboard looks like, what numbers count in cricket, how to mark your turn and general scoring rules. Cali also gets into some basic strategy concepts. This episode illustrates a complete cricket game with 2 players, Jen and Will. This helps the beginner to understand the progression of a cricket game and makes it easier to follow a game to completion! Warning! Cricket is an exciting, fun dart game that is very addicting!! Once you get the hang of it, it's sure to be your favorite game!

    If this is the first video of Garage Darts that you have seen and were a little lost, you may want to check out Cali's other videos, to get a better understanding. If you watch the Darts 101 series in order, that may fill in the blanks ;)
    Episode 1 - The Dartboard
    Episode 2 - The Throw
    Episode3 - How to Play Cricket
    All of her youtube videos are also on her website: caliwestdarts....
    More videos will be coming in the Darts101 series, such as the game of 501, how to set up a board at home, dart etiquette and many more! So subscribe to the channel to never miss a new episode.
    Garage Darts is inspired by Cali's dart career. Over the span of 20+ years she has played darts, she has found too many people that know nothing about the game of darts! So came the idea to create a channel that takes the mystery out of the game. Her hope is to get more people involved in darts especially in America where it is a bit more obscure than in other countries.
    If you like this video, please like and hit the subscribe button! More videos will be added, so you don't want to miss out!
    If you are a dart player who already knows all this 101 stuff, please leave a comment about topics you struggled with as a beginner.
    And PLEASE tell your friends and family about this channel! It was created with the non-darter in mind - especially the Darts 101 series. For all your friends, family and co-workers who give you the weird look as they say "you play darts?" I hope to enlighten all those who don't even know darts exist in America! This channel is to spread the word that darts exist and the sport is growing in popularity.....even in the U.S.!

    Starting at target #20 is a strategy for those that can hit the intended target. For the basic beginners that don't want to add any math to it: you can eliminate the point system and just play cricket to close out the numbers 20 thru 15. Another basic beginner strategy is to aim for the bullseye and collect any close outs in your attempts to the bullseye. It also helps your aim and focus on a singular point. Always a good idea to use good darts and stick to what works for you. Some cheap darts are so bad that they mess up your ability to be consistent with each throw. With all that said... there is no need to buy expensive products just to play a game of darts for fun.

    Great explenation. In Belgrade, Serbia, we somehow improved this game, adding double, triple and cake on the list. Cake is 3 darts on the same segment. Sometimes game can last for a while. Which is not good for the other players who are waiting, but it is even more chalanging. Everything else is is the same, but need to have all places covered.

    Probably the very best guide out there to understand cricket. But just to clarify, say Phil Taylor plays cricket and scores T20, T19, T18 on his first 3 throws... does that lock out the opponent from scoring on those numbers forcing them to throw at 17 or 16? And if they do that, Phil would simply have a run at 20s for a long as he wants until his opponent tries to close it out?

    • @GarageDarts
      @GarageDarts  5 місяців тому

      Yes, the opponent would have to get as many 17s as possible and hope Phil has a miss here or there that he can capitalize on and get back into the game. Whether its cricket or 01, there is not much you can do if your opponent throws perfect darts!! Right? Thanks for the comment, and thank you for the thumbs up! 😁

    Why did Jen go first if Will actually hit the bulls and was closer to the center??!!
    So to determine who starts you need to get closest to the center without being in the bulls?

    • @GarageDarts
      @GarageDarts  5 місяців тому

      Jens dart has the red flight and it is in the center - the red bull. Wills dart was in the green or outer bull, so jen goes first. A red bull beats a green bull. If they were both outside the bull, then the dart closest to the bull would go first

    I may have missed it. But let’s say you have X on 20. Then your next throw is a double 20. Is that a circle + 20 or just a circle?

    • @GarageDarts
      @GarageDarts  5 місяців тому +1

      This depends on what your opponent has. If your opponent hasn’t closed the 20's yet, then the double would count as 2 20's - one for the circle and 20 points for the second.
      However, if your opponent has 3 20's already, then only one would count, to close the number. Now, any dart that hits a 20 for the remainder of this game does not count for either player. I think I will do another cricket video, to explain this scenerio better, since many people have similar confusion! Thanks for the question!

    Pretty simple, get the point lead and make your opponent chase it > Each time they close a number trying to get the point lead for themself close it. Just keep that tactic up all the way to the bull! If you should lose it get it back as fast as you can. At the end of the game add points if possible so you only need 3 and your opponent needs 4-5- or 6. Closing when behind in points is not how top players play. Novices and players who are not very good will try to close when behind in points thinking that will keep the game close.

  • @muziseanbymuzitv
    @muziseanbymuzitv 11 місяців тому

    Instead of doing the math I play a more short hand/intermediate version. All points are just one point (we use tally marks) and you GIVE points to the opponent based on the numbers they have not closed yet. So person with the least points wins, like golf and your goal is to close out your numbers before your opponent can give you points on them.

    • @GarageDarts
      @GarageDarts  11 місяців тому

      Really interesting concept! I will have to try that! So if I have 20's closed, and my opponent does not I can hit more 20's that gives him points until he closes? Sounds fun!! Thanks so much for sharing that!!

    I have a question. What if my opponent has more points but I hit all of the numbers 3 times first?

    • @GarageDarts
      @GarageDarts  3 місяці тому

      You would have to gain points on numbers your opponent hasnt closed yet. If you get more points than your opponent (before they close all the numbers) then you win. The winner has to have the point lead, as well as all numbers closed. Hope that clears up any confusion. Thanks for your question!

    • @GarageDarts
      @GarageDarts  Рік тому +2

      Yes, you are correct. If you had all numbers closed, but not the points lead, you would have to point on a number your opponent did not yet have closed, to gain the points lead, in order to win.

      Although it has never happened to me (that is quite an opening shot), I would try to hit as many 17's as I could, for a points lead and then try to pick off his numbers, one by one. The hope is, although your opponent came out hot, he will come back to earth and shoot a few avg rounds; which gives you the chance to come back! ...and if he doesn't cool down, there is nothing to do but shake his hand on an amazing game!!

    How long does a game last for usually

    • @GarageDarts
      @GarageDarts  Рік тому

      Hi Erik! Game duration depends on the skill level of the 2 players. I just finished a tournament where most legs lasted 3 to 5 minutes. That is when you are throwing around 24-dart legs (about 8 turns at the board. Beginners could take much longer, due to missing their out shots or low scores. It can also take longer if a player is a slower thrower.

    • @GarageDarts
      @GarageDarts  4 місяці тому

      Do you mean - if you close each number, can you lose on points? Yes. So if you had all numbers closed, but were down on points, then your opponent would just need to close everything to win. However, you could score points on numbers they don't have closed, to get the points you need to have the higher total. I hope this makes sense!!

      You can start with any number you would like, but the conventional way to go is 20's first. Much easier to get 3 20's with 3 darts than it is to get 3 bulls with 3 darts! So you have a better chance of having a number you can point on right away, providing your opponent does not close them after you. Thanks for the question! I think I second cricket video will be in order! 😉

      Thanks. I obviously am a much better dart player than animator! Lol! I do really enjoy the process of animation. Fun outlet for me! I appreciate your offer tho. ❤

    Did I miss what happened if u hit a double or triple?

    • @GarageDarts
      @GarageDarts  Рік тому +1

      Not sure if you are referring to a specific instance, but if you hit a double, it would count as 2 marks, or if you already have 3 marks on that number, it would count as points (as long as your opponent doesn't have 3 marks on that same segment). For points, let's say you hit a double 20, it would be worth 40 points, a triple would be worth 60 points . Does that answer your question?

    Ohhhh!!!!!! Why wouldn't y'all just say you have to hit the 20 3 times before you can score!!!! Yakuza Zero, Here I come! There's a game called Yakuza 0 for ps4 and you can play darts! 🎯 I tried cricket and damn near lost my noggin trynna figure it out! I will prevail! So you hit any number 3 times causes you to score. When your opponent gets three, that number is closed and neither of you can score on that number, forcing you to move to a new number? Did I get that right?

    I play darts but we just keep it simple. We don't do all the math. We have a hard enough time just trying to close our circles. 😂😅🤷🏿‍♂️

      Hey rob! I guess if you are just playing a casual game then no points cricket is an option. But most dart leagues and especially tournaments play the cricket game with points as shown in this video.
