Saw this video after purchasing a new 13” Pro and appreciated your review. I certainly don’t need all the bells and whistles but at my age I gladly have dipped into my kids inheritance.
Plus it’s BRIGHTER! And it will keep its value. Upgrading from 2018 IPAD PRO 12.9 256GB to the 2024 M4 is not a whole new world, but for me I love it. I am worth it. I use my IPad 8 hours a day and haven’t looked back at my gaming Laptops since 2012. 12 years of using IPADs.I’d say 6 years with the 2018 and it’s still worth $400 or more according to EBay.
I have always bought the Pro models but was vacillating this year. Your analysis absolutely confirmed my preference and was validating to be able to easily reinforce my decision and “go for Pro”! Many thanks!!
I ordered the 13 inch air and am very happy with my purchase. Tried the Pro for a week, it's brilliant if you will use it to its full potential. For the average user the Air is a perfect balance between price and features.
I bought the 11” iPad Pro (M4) to replace my 7yr old 10.5” iPad Pro; I don’t need a fraction what the M4 will do, however I plan on keeping it 5yrs+ so I bought the Pro over the Air to future proof it for as long as possible. If future iOS start to use some of the extra power of the M chips than having a M4 over a M2 may make future proofing it for longer.
I have the iPad Pro(256GB) 5th generation that I bought on 2/15/22, I love it, use it everyday to watch movies/videos. I would have to go pull up my Apple receipt to see what I paid for it back then but they sure are getting pricey., I just bought a new 15-inch MacBook Air with M3 chip cause my old one was like 12 years old and couldn’t update the iOS anymore, boy that was pricey as well. Thank you for your videos, I learn a lot from you, I’m 70 and need all the help you provide us, have a blessed day.❤
@@RichBowlin oh wow hadn’t even thought about that. Question, I just got tinnitus about 6 weeks ago, my husband has had it for 2 years. He has an iPad as well. He listens to Utube videos that help him to distract his noise while he sleeps like a box fan noise. The video goes for about 10hrs and he can turn it on and close his iPad and it doesn’t shut off unless he turns the video off. I tried that with my iPad, we both have the same kind, when I close my iPad it turns mine off so I have to keep my iPad open. Do you have any idea why mine doesn’t do what my husbands does? I tried looking it up on safari but nothing comes up to help me. Thank you
6:41 Spot on (!) That would be the key business model profit-making trick Apple uses to rake in those huge profits: change the supporting accessory component essential to its function on each newly designed rollouts. Exhibit 'A' -the power cord end adapter.
I purchased the new iPad Air M2 11 inch. I like the smaller size because I’m small and it is easy to handle. My iPad is my computer and it functions quite well. I bought a screen saver and case that props up. Already had a Logitech keyboard and mouse. As you can see I’m quite content with my purchase. Hope this helps.
I have been vacillating between the air and the pro myself. I, too, have the 12.9 2018 pro and had decided to upgrade this year. I like the Face ID of the pro, but what makes me hesitate is not just the $500 difference, but all the accessories on top. I would have to replace my keyboard and my pencil. So now the difference is $978. I appreciate the weight loss in the new unit because my current pro with keyboard is the weight of a laptop, and I carry mine to see clients regularly. I wonder what the new functions will be to utilize the M4. I have a strong case of FOMO (fear of missing out). So I am still on the fence.
I need to upgrade my son's ipad. He is a quadraplegic with limited use of his hands. However he spends a lot of his time gaming online. My question is, " would there be any difference in gaming speed between M2 and M4?
Interesting perspective! Thanks. I still think if I decide to get a larger iPad I’ll go with an air and probably not the 13”. I’ll have to compare the mini to both sizes at the store . I don’t use a keyboard , I have my iPads in a case and don’t use all the super high end features. When I do get new technology I get the new models ( not the existing). Definitely keeping my mini too
As for the M4, I understand that chip is needed to support the Pro’s dual layer OLED display. So while Final Cut Pro might run faster with the M4, its real power is required to run the Tandem Display.
Agree with all of this. Just think about how long you use these devices daily, if it's more then 3 or 4 Hours, then i makes sence to shell out the big bucks to get the pro, your eyes will thank you. If you use the device only occassionally or max 1 or 2 hours daily then go for the Air.
Very surprised you dont discuss the speakers. Unless I’m mistaken, the Air is stereo and the Pro is Quad. I watch a lot of movies and sound makes all the difference.😊
So - from what I have seen, even thought the Pro is thinner, it has the same battery life/length due to the M4 better optimization ... think about how much longer the battery life would have been if it were the same thickness as previous iPads and thicker battery!
So true. The iPad battery life, as far as I know, has never really changed that much. It's always rated for around 10 hrs. Which is ok for me. But yeah, if they'd not opted for a thinner form factor, battery could have improved. Thanks so much for watching!
would going from the 12.9 2018 iPad Pro to the new iPad Air be a huge difference? i mainly use my ipad to draw (no animation) and occasionally play games/do schoolwork. my biggest worry is that going from 120hz to 60hz will be a big issue, but i don't know if it is worth $400 more for the new pro.
Thanks for the tips! My pro died after 2 years and I just use it to read music so I may go with the Air this time as I just need the size really! Thanks again!
I have both the 2.9 inch and 11 inch 2018 iPad pros. I went pro mainly due to the four speakers rather than two. Does the new iPad Air have similar sound to the iPad Pro?
Trying to decide between the Air m2, 13 inch or the 5th gen 12.9 m1. It’s $ 829 at the Apple outlet. So for an extra $ 30 I can get the 12.9 pro with double the storage. I would take AppleCare for the next 5 years, so no worries there. The 12.9 M1 seems best. This will not leave my home. Used mostly on my lap.
I have the 5th gen ippsd pri 12,9 with 1T storage. I wasnot looking to trade but will check the value. The old one holds all my photos and editing apps which is my main concern. My 87th birthday is this month --- not wanting a lesser storage option. Not interested in anewer iPhone when my iPhoone 14Pro Max also has 1 T storage. Do not think my life expectancy makes new devices a good idea. I dont need to travel in the fast lane or learn to deal with too much new technology. Ism glad to have discovered your channel though. ❤
I bought the iPad 13 pro with 1 TB storage and it comes with 16 GB RAM. Oh I got £400 refund from my old iPad Pro 2020 model. I can tell you this M4 iPad Pro is strikingly fast as I use it mostly for Bullet chess ( 1 min chess ). I am very happy with my amazingly super fast iPad Pro. Regards from London 👌👍
would've been nice if you took the extra step to bring these 2 devices outside under the sun to compare the screens, to show the big difference that you claim in the pro over the air
Good video but it’s not as simple as you put it because on top of what you said for that $500 price hike your getting 256 gig over the 128 gig. Plus of course you get Face ID. And with that M4 chip it should last longer as the future updates need faster chips to run. So in theory it should be more future proof.
I should have mentioned the storage - good catch. I try to keep these things simple and sometimes I overlook something obvious but important. Thanks so much for watching!
If you keep the Air, that’s six more years of missing the superior features of the Pro, plus the air may get slow before you get rid of it. I like to buy tech near the top ( but never at the top because of the extremely poor value) and then keep it as long as I can stand it. Then rinse and repeat.
It matter what iPad that person have before and Ipad 2 was my last iPad I have I did get the new IPad Air or the new IPad Pro it will be a big upgrade from IPad 2
I have the 13” M1 iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard, and I will keep them and pick up the M2 13” iPad Air so I can use the same keyboard and still have a better SOC unit for the newer AI Stuff in iPadOS 18.
@@RichBowlin I think Apple knows that if they lock off to much stuff to the M4 iPad Pro they will make a lot of people mad. I’m going to guess that most of what they are going to do will work on all iPads, but the M4 Pro will do them much faster for people that use the machine as a full time production tool.
I've been using my Pro and the new keyboard daily and love it. But it is a close call. I should have mentioned you get more storage on the Pro. Glad another viewer pointed that out.
I use a Lenovo Ideapad 2 in 1 Tablet Chromebook. Including the quite nice keyboard and trackpad it cost me less than US$200. I prefer the software on iOS but my Chromebook actually does all the basics. It is actually nicer to hold and read eBooks than my iPad and fits in a bumbag.
Probably will. I never thought I'd make a switch from Apple Mail but Hey is awesome. I just paid for a year's subscription. I told the Hey CEO I was thinking about making a video soon. Thanks so much for watching!
I just don’t get it. Why do you need 1300$ iPad and pay another 400$ for keyboard and another 300$ for pen. Just don’t make any sense but commercial sale for a stuff which will depreciate like any another Apple product after 1 year of use. Majority of the people don’t need it but just want it. And like you said after 2 weeks you won’t see the difference. Good review anyway.❤
Honestly, I really meant it when I said if I didn't make UA-cam videos I'd still be using my 2018 iPad Pro. It was great. I made another video on "When should you upgrade to a new iPad" and I pretty much said what you just said. Thanks so much for watching!
The Air is priced at a companion device price. The Pro is priced at a professional level. The Pro doesn’t meet professional needs. They do the same thing. When you add the keyboard and pen the price gap widens. The Pro simply isn’t worth it.
Rich, loved your video! If you have the Air and the Pro, you can’t use both so maybe you’d like to sell me the “Avalon” at a resale price and you keep the “Lexus”? If there’s so little difference in performance between these two iPads I’m happy with Toyota! Just can’t find the extra $500 for Lexus without it hurting! OR, what other iPads are you “ hoarding” that should be in use by an 83 year old, tech savvy senior? Thanks for your videos and thank you for considering parting with a surplus iPad! Elisabeth.
Ha! I would sell but I use all of them in my videos. If I didn't make videos, I'd have just one. Well, maybe two counting the iPad mini. Thanks so much for watching!
