- This is a large compilation I've put together on the various techniques that the Black and Yellow Garden Spider (Argiope Aurantia) uses when attacking prey. It is pretty fascinating to watch, so try to watch the whole thing if you have the time. Thank you for watching, please like and subscribe!

i bet that spider is saying, if anything lands on my web " its a wrap"
Nah G33qz We had a spider build a big web here in Jersey, I told him if he intends on keeping that web there how much his property taxes would be, He looked at me with all 100 eyes and pack up
@@oldman6487 that spider said "property taxes my ass I'm gone"
😂😂😂😂
Hi G33qZ HaHa you are so funny!
I get it 😆
Thank you for posting a video that wasn't click bait, had crappy camera work, or bad music added. This is the kind of stuff UA-cam needs. Very informative as well. I enjoyed watching this very much since it shows that spiders are a bit more "intelligent" than you may think... In the sense that they can differentiate prey and act accordingly. I've watched a lot of documentaries and videos but have never come across something like this before. I really appreciate you posting this video and I learned a little bit more about spiders today. Very cool. :)
Thank you!! Yeah, I hate music in the background. I minimally edit the videos now; only to get the out of focus scenes out. Sometimes I don't edit at all. Some videos I talk, some I don't. What would you like to see more of?
And thank you very much for watching my videos! If you subscribe, feel free to give me feedback! Any constructive criticism I will take!
I love how she wraps the bee and wasp up extra tight like she's saying 'Ooh this one's spicy!'
@It’sJustAubsKebabz, the wasp is spicy and the bee is savory, sweet and tangy.
I have fed spiders prey myself in the past. Try a preying mantis, fully grown or around medium sized! You will immediately notice that the spider will wrap the mantis's claws to it's face. Spider's like: "Oh, a mantis, eh? Lemme wrap your face to your claws first!"
what is fascinating to me is the fact that at the first part, it looks as if the spider is analyzing how big the prey is and then just jump in to do the work, like it has a mind of its own
They are good at what they do
They definitely do have a mind of their own! And they are smart!
Calculations complete, spamming webs
I bet that particular spider is like "oh wow, thanks hooman :)"
Yeah, probably! Haha
"An escape artist, eh?"
*_[Total mummy wrap x10]_*
Right?! These spiders are SMART!
@IloveSPIDERZ, Correct! All Argiope Spiders are INTELLIGENT!
Spiders are beautiful creatures . . . until they get into my room.
They are always beautiful! And can usually be moved outside ;)
@IloveSPIDERZ, Argiope spiders and Nephila spiders are the 2 biggest and most beautiful species of orb weaver spiders in the world aka (Saint Andrew’s cross spider, garden spider, writing spider, X-Spider, silver spider, banded spider or wasp spider and golden silk orb weaver spiders). Even if they catch and kill a bird, bat, lizard, snake or a frog in their web, I would just let them suck out the juvenile mammal’s Blood out and I like the size of how big and massive these spiders are. I wouldn’t free anything that gets caught in their webs unless, the spider isn’t hungry and doesn’t want to attack then I free the bird that gets caught in their web and if it was a praying mantis or a 6 legged insect, I would free it and kill it myself.
@@eugeneyang5678 So why do you kill praying mantis?
@@samiam619 , I only kill them because I am mad at someone who tries to get on my nerves and teases me about my body height being 6 feet tall and saying that I am going to hell just because I like the number 6 and dislike the number 5 in my own opinion/personal preference. I don’t really want to kill the praying mantises and I get personally mad when people don’t know me and can’t tell the difference of how big 1 inch is and especially when they’re terrible at math. I personally like being 6 feet tall and I enjoy eating dark chocolate, black licorice and drink coffee black with no cream or sugar. I get mad very easily and I feel ashamed of myself because I personally get off topic and people just want to be bigots and kill 4 legged animals, 6 legged insects and 8 legged creatures just to be clowns. I seriously like spiders and I do realize that I fail ironically that the praying mantises help the eco system too (and they are just as important for the pest food chain). As an 6 foot tall man, I realize that humans with the height of 6 feet like a baby giraffe may get hungry very easily. And yet I know that some praying mantis species are going extinct so by law they are protected by the state animal control center and the same with European and Other species of bees on their property. The praying mantises help keep bugs and insect pest population and control just as much as the spiders do because if the spider were to win against the mantis, the spider would be obese, gain weight and die. Then, the black ants, red ants, fire ants, harvester ants, carpenter ants or velvet ants or cow killer ants would eat and prey on the spiders and mantises that die and feed their developers inside the ant hill. Sadly the praying mantises in the state of California (where I live) they only live up to 0.5 years (6 months) and then they die after the female mantis lays her egg. The biggest mantis I saw in my life experience was about 2 to 3 inches big (0.1666 feet to 0.25 feet long) and in metric it’s (5.08 centimeters to 7.62 centimeters long).
@@eugeneyang5678 if a poisonous frog gets caught the spider usually lets them go.. the frog can secrete poison on its skin and when the spider goes in for the bite, she backs off and cuts it down
I once made bubbles and some of them stuck in a web. They didn't pop untill the spider popped them.
Interesting. With the dragonfly, she tied its wings down to the web on her first move, to keep it from escaping. Then she had her way with it. As for the grasshopper, I noticed the spider paid particular attention to restraining the grasshopper's hind legs (which are its most powerful legs and are primarily used for jumping, but they can also kick their way free of a spider web if caught) in whatever way possible; either by letting the grasshopper fold its rear legs down(in preparation to kick) or by snaring the legs while they were still extended before the grasshopper could fold them back under & get any muscle tension built up. As for the bee, she simply wrapped it up so tightly that simply it had no chance of escaping. With the wasp, she did pretty much the same thing, but she also curled the wasp's body thus almost entirely eliminating the possibility of receiving a paralyzing/fatal sting. The deer fly was laughably easy for her. One she wrapped up, another she just ran out & grabbed with her fangs, then carried it to the center of the web.
She probably told the same story to her bff Charlotte.
And this was the entire purpose of the video! Offer a comparison at a glance! Thank you so much for this ( even though this comment is 4 years late).
Dragonflys have sharp mandibles and spider didnt want to die so caution is a must.
She used her silky skills.
THANK YOU for ensuring that the deerfly experienced a most horrific, and tortuous end. Those things are THE WORST
I just posted a video about them! Perhaps a solution to get them to evolve to not be dependent of us!
That spider 🕷 is like:
"Hmmm, I like this fellow! With him tossing all kinds of victims to me like this, I'll never go hungry!
I feel bad for doing it now, honestly. Haha
did u throw the dragonfly in ? that one made me feel bad. the rest are insects that land their on their own anyways / are common prey
This video was great. It really showed off how smart, beautiful and awesome the garden spider really is. I was mesmerized by the different ways the spider used it's web and you pointed it out well. Good job dude!!!^-^
Thank you! Like I said though, there will be a much better one in the future. It is really amazing!
Nature never ceases to impress me. Obviously, everyone knows they do this, but seeing it actually in action is still amazing.
Spiders are such majestic creatures.
Yes they are!!
I've never seen webbing that thick of a strand, wow .its not a single strand it's a blanket
Really cool, huh? This was what got me fascinated with spiders!
Garden spiders is the best wrapping spiders..
@MichæL Ok, I agree with you on that
I think they are called spinerets I believe and spiders usually have 1 but can have 4, 6, or even 8!
@A Special Poipole, yes they are called spinnerets and the silk comes out of the 1 rare hole from the spider’s bottom. In the 1 butt hole of the spider can have 2, 4, 6 or 8 spinnerets all linked together and every spinneret produces a different type and texture of silk for weaving a web, wrapping up prey, making a retreat, scaffold spiral of the web, making radiation threads of the web, making sticky spiral of the web as the spider recycles and eats the scaffold silk that is not as sticky, building a pattern at the hub or the center of the web after the whole web is done woven as a design such as the zigzag pattern, Capital Letter X pattern or electric spiral pattern that absorbs ultraviolet light to keep other animals and humans away to show that the web is visible and for laying an egg sac. Spinnerets is spelled with 2 N’s in it not 1. Spiders have an even number of spinnerets such as 2, 4, 6 and 8 all linked together in the 1 big spider’s arsehole and the spiders also have 2 eyes like most animals and humans do and even 4, 6 and 8 eyes as well. The total number of the spiders eyes, spinnerets and rest of their organs (in both male and females) are always naturally born with an even number and never an odd number.
Gorgeous spider. Thanks for the video! Really cool to watch them do their thing.
I've always loved spiders, and know lot's about them
They are fascinating indeed!
IloveSPIDERZ the best part is how they eat
no its how they attack and wrap up the prey [my opinion]
Yeah they get a bad wrap.
Whoa xd
What's fascinating to me is how the spider adjusts its tactics based on the type of prey. It knows what exactly what it's doing and how best to approach each kind of insect that's fallen into its web.
I love this video. I grew up playing and watching these spiders, I haven't seem them since I moved 30 years ago
You have to look in the right areas. As ecosystems change, they might not be able to live there anymore.
Awesome video. We had one of these in our garden when I was a kid, and I will always remember looking at it one morning and watching a grasshopper leap right into it. Brutal.
That was absolutely amazing. Thanks for this....very well done!
Thank you very much!
That silk got thrown so quickly, you see the 1st strand and then suddenly it’s a blanket.
Does the female of this species eat it’s mate after mating? I had to come back after 3 years to watch this again, it’s fascinating still. Seeing the spider next to ur finger shows me that it is smaller than I thought😂 Happy Holidays.
Spider:your under arrest
Wasp: for what
Spider:for stinging people for your honey😂
Thank you for the great video
Excellent video!
Awesome video.. the bumble bee clip was pretty crazy lol. little buddy was not giving up. she keep going until she got it..
so the first clip, the spider used the threading from its web and used it on the dragonfly
Yes it did!! It is a tactic that a lot of orb weavers use! I was surprised to see this adult do that!
Plot twist; man is throwing insects in spider’s web for the video!
I love it. I had a garden spider ounce. Actually their were three of them.
Demonstration of Proper Gift 🌯 Wrapping Technical Skills!
Beautiful footage
Hello iloveSPIDERZ and thankyou for posting this video.I have a beautiful Garden Spider outside my lounge window. Its a big guy and its only been there for a month but I have watched this spider make the biggest web I've ever seen and found a new love for spiders.I f not care for them but they move so gracefully and use such skill to spin silk cocoons to keep prey quiet til Dinner time.Silk is a gift of nature and when you watch a spider wrap up a cocoon its just so elegant. And satisfying.Thankyou.please post more videos.
It’s soo cool how the spider wraps different insects differently
amazing...
I'm fascinated lol.
I don't even know why I am, but I love it.
It is immensely cool!
Great video a love watching them clever creatures that was really enjoyable
Spider rolling a "Cheech and Chong" joint!
I bet that male was thinking, "Cool."
Is that a time lapse or is it how brutal a spider can be to its prey? Cuz the ones who are being attacked are saying “this is the worst day of my life”
Lol None of these are time-lapsed!
i usually feed it with cockroaches... one time i threw a centipede in its web, the spider just set it loose and free to fall down to the ground.. i guess they dont wanna mess with the freight train of the bug world..
It's the rule of nature: if the prey is not useful, set it free unharmed.
I love that rule too... It's like they are automatically born to value life.
@@raphaello64100 i think its more of the simple "spider finds centipede too much to handle" explanation.. but i guess it counts too..
very interesting videos, keep goin !
I’m convinced that spiders are aliens
I appreciate the time in watching your videos about these spiders. I wish there was a way to help prevent birds from being inadvertently trapped in these webs, originally meant to help capture pests. Thank you.
Lol. The web is the spider's trap house.
Hahah! Excellent!
Technique 1: spider wraps prey
Technique 2: spider wraps prey
Technique 3: spider wraps prey
Technique 4: spider wraps prey
...
PixelToast Lol You didn't notice the little differences throughout the video?
IS THEIS REAL
PixelToast and
It's how we win, that matters.
If the shoe fits, wear it.
i cant believe how smart they actually are, operating their legs and cutting net nodes to coat prey in web by spinning it in one axis
How quick they are with the web is the cool part to me. Even though I have the biggest fear of spiders.
Actually, the spider realizes how dangerous a sting from a wasp or bee can be so it takes the extra precaution and wraps it the fuck up. It is not because they are escape artists.
Despite the camera going in and out of focus once in awhile it still turned out very good overall. What brand and model of camera were you using?
Their speed and dexterity - wow!
Awesome video, these are my favorite spiders! My only critique is the bumble bee is actually a carpenter bee. Sometimes I wonder if bumble bees have gone extinct because I haven't seen one in about 20 years.
Such beautiful sounds. Is this in your backyard?
No, this was Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge/False Cape State Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia (just north of the NC border).
Wow....it amazing.
New subscriber~~~Am a MEGA
ARACHNIPHOBE but love spider vids...go figure...LOL 😎🙊🙉🙈
Thank you so much! I'm going to be posting a lot this summer, so if you want to get a notification for every single video I post, or not, adjust your settings accordingly. 😂🌹
I have some small spiny orb weavers on our property which is normal because I live on a ranch, but when I came across one of these the other day I almost had a damn heart attack. They are so HUGE!
Kind of a bummer sinds a fly got killed or captured. They are one of my favorite insects, because they are like the spiders: Killing of the bugs we really hate, for example: mosquitoes
That silk is satisfying af. 😂
It kindof is!!
A bite by Argiope aurantia is comparable to a bee sting with redness and swelling. For a healthy adult, a bite is not considered an issue. Though these spiders are not aggressive, people who are very young, elderly, or who have compromised immune systems should exercise caution, just as they would around a beehive or a hornet nest.
If your mental enough to rest on an orb weavers web you deserve a straight jacket.
I can't believe how much Web the spider is letting out one time!!
Yes. I agree with you. But until they get in my kitchen. And Scorpions come in my house too.
why you have to make it a speed video? i cant see anything from waht the spider really does! we miss the whole beauty of it and i have to watch it in slow motion with low fps!
Great video by the way!!!
I don't ever want to run in a forest and run my face into a spiders web. I love spiders but I fear most of them
No need to fear orb weavers though! No matter the size, shape or color of the spider, orb weavers are harmless!
8:18 you deserve a like just for that
Thanks man! Lol In another one of my videos, I offer a way to hopefully make them less annoying over time! And we will do it by playing with time and the evolutionary role! You should check it out! I posted it earlier this year.
My grandfather always called these "banana spiders". Is that not what they're called or is this a different one?
Argiope spider's venom is one of the weakest among the orb weaver family. That's why evolution compensated them with very strong silk and they have to bite their preys many times for the paralysis to take effect.
9:14 Didn't even bother wrapping it first! Just grabbed it out of the web and hauled it off to the center of her web, where she wrapped it after a few seconds! :D
Awesome
I have one of these in my kitchen window now. Amazing how she catches things that fly into her web. I have also caught a few bees and handed them to her with tweezers. I have been to afraid to hand her the food because I did not understand if she would bite or if she was poisonous. Besides that, the food I have offered her would sting me if I handled it. Thank you for the information and I have now learned how to gently pick her up if I want to handle her. I will try to post that video if I can.
This whole experience is VERY, very INTERESTING!
This is what got me into spiders in the first place! These spiders won't go out of their way to bite you, but even if they do accidentally bite you, their venom doesn't after us in any significant way. I've been bit by one of these because I was holding a moth in it's web so it wouldn't escape. It was completely my fault, but nothing happened. They will, however, be very happy you are feeding them! And will usually stay in the same spot throughout most of their lives/adulthood.
IloveSPIDERZ I have a video of me feeding her this AM. Man, she was so happy to see a bee in her nest she grabbed it from me! Not sure how much they eat but she isn't as excited about food this pm? .I just tried to pick her up but my I guess I am not ready or she isn't cause poor thing is just "swinging" her self to intimidate me. Cute but I will try after some mrs "feedings''.
Maybe she doesn't trust me just yet?
Well they don't like to be handled. It puts them into too much panic and anxiety, and with this species, they will move somewhere else if they are bothered too much. I'm not saying you can't, but just be careful. I accidentally killed one because it fell out of my hand. (A short fall can kill them)
IloveSPIDERZ Noted and I agree. I believe I may have chased her away a few weeks before I knew all this info. She took up residence below my deck and I guess the lack of sun was not suitable of her liking and she moved back upstairs. I am SURE that this is the same girl. She is VERY happy where she is and I do not want to run her off accidentally. (Too much fun to watch) Although now i will be more comfortable hand feeding her when I can and I will not be afraid. Thanks again for all the good factoids.
Carol Coleman I just re-read ur post. OMG I would feel like shit if I killed her. I am not going to try to pick her up again. I would hate myself if she hit the ground and died. Yes, I get it, I do not want to kill her and I now understand that they are just too anxious for handling. Good advice and I am sorry that happened to you.
I do not like spiders at all, but it's fascinating how she wraps up her prey to be used at a more opportune time for HER!
this species of spiders are my favorite
you have a very cute pet.
+Anthony Tonev Thanks!!
That bumblebee got wrapped like luggage in an airport plastic wrap machine!
Nice analogy! And thank you for watching my vids!
Are you raising an army of killer spiders?
Maaaayybbeee 😁
It looks like she is covering them in saran wrap lol
Do you do this often cuz the spider was waiting for that deer fly lol
Wow that grasshopper did not put up a fight at all same thing with the bumble bee, wasp and deer fly.
The spider was playing dangerous with that bumble bee, I think it could have used a little bit more web tbh
Yeah, for real! Lol
Is the male really small or is he just far away?
What was that dragonfly holding?
I was wondering the same thing. Dragonfly basketball?
I was wondering that too! Not sure! Lol Thank you both for watching!
Dragonfly was performing aerial maneuvers, but caught sudden shift in air, slammed into a Web 🕸️ of ☠️ Death!
Spider 🕷️ Very Happy!
Spiders are metagaming. They know the bugs in advance lol.
im always so proud after they catch one lol
Are the garden spiders poisonous?
@lovespiders:thank you very much for your answer:) i like spiders too although i was bitten five years ago ..at least 15 pimples on my feet..:( didn t feel anything
Are you sure they were spider bites? Everyone likes to blame spiders for every abnormal reaction on the skin, but chances are slim to none that they actually are spider bites.
This spiders web fibers is crazy strong.
Definitely!!
It's so satisfying when the spider kills a grasshopper. I hate those crop eaters and would feed those to any spider around my house.
there is a big european garden spider near my windoe outside. glad they are not as big as these ones
I guess the male is hanging there hoping his lunch will come soon.
Nobody messes with garden spiders
I do!!
Can you find these spiders in Australia
Does that spider associate you with food?
That particular breed is very docile and can grow intimidatingly large. A bite from a large one of that species is about equal to that of a bee sting. So nothing to worry about unless allergic. So if you come across one. Let it go. Let it go.
Breed? Breed?! It's not a cat or dog. It's called a species
Whatever
Can't hold it back anymore
I gotten bit it hurts. It swells like a hour pulsating pain then it goes away
The circle web is the sticky web
Stupid Grasshopper is like people on 📲 Cell Phones walking and not paying attention! Walk into Unknown Dangers!
Trapped you like a fish you’re fly water, what’s your catching oh wait you have none.
IS THIS REAL!
A man works from sun 🌞 to 🌞, but a woman's work is never done! Soon as I eat, I have to clean up the house 🏡 again, said the Spider 🕷️!!!
Don't tell Me that these guys weren't created by God. Amazing.
