I've had a 1990 ls400 since 2012..... I lost my radio because the cup holder was too small and smashed on the brakes and watched a drink slide into the radio. I drove around everywhere with the traction control turned off and extra power on, all three sun visors down, and I would be doing the one wheel peel every turn.
Ls400's are the master race! The 90's lexus line-up is amazing! Also the 1uz-fe was built for a gt race series. With MLS head gaskets and arp head studs, you now have a motor that can live at 780hp happily. So I would have to disagree with your not so tuner friendly comment.
@@richardtavarez4565 haha the gs is cool and all, but not as nice as the ls, and not as fast as the sc. So to me, it's at the bottom of the list. Does everything well, but is the best at nothing.
Crazy how this car and many others were untouchable back then to most and now are fairly cheap but if you had a ls400 when it came out then you were big pimpin.
Owned a 1992 LS400 for years, and it was a fantastic car. Super clean, smooth, and unbelievably reliable (I owned it from the time I was 19-22, and let me tell you about neglecting maintenance and it still just rolling along seamlessly...). After a great time with the LS400, I replaced it with the only car I found that I could enjoy even more... and after several years of owning a 2005 LS430, I can tell you that no other sedan (JDM, German, etc.) compares in terms of interior quality, vault-like serenity, and that bulletproof Toyota reliability. If you get the opportunity, either 400 or 430, join the LS gang!
Just got a ‘91 LS400 a few months ago, and I have to say it’s one of the easiest and smoothest driving cars that I’ve ever driven. Plus, it’s looks have aged like fine wine, and it can still boogie when you put the ECT to sport and mash the skinny pedal.
I'm the second owner of a 95 LS 400 with 210,000 miles. Bought it in 2019 with 196,000, and a damaged front bumper for $700. It was Ebony Teal Pearl with dark gray Metallic tu tone when purchased. After new bumper replacement I decided to paint it the solid Ebony Teal Pearl without the dark gray. I have done several preventive maintenance projects such as starter, water pump, timing belt kit, oil cover gaskets, fuel pump, alternator, front and rear struts, full tune-up including both coils and distributors, cooling systems, transmission tune-up. Added 18in Motegi gold and chrome wheels, trunk deck spoiler and front bumper lip. This car is amazing and I have no plans to sell it, even though I have had offers up to $7,000. I'm sixty two, and this is by far the best car I have ever owned.

My Dad left me his LS 430...it was a 2004 maybe or 2006 it was a dealers model and I t was incredible from the moment I sat in the drivers seat. I knew after the first drive from Salt Lake to San Francisco I was hooked. I'll never own anything but a Lexus. When it was time to retire my Dad's car I found a 2001 ls 430 in L.A. (Gold) 60k on it. I upgraded the suspension and the wheels and Tires.. IT IS THE BOMB...
I own a 1992 Lexus Ls400 my first actual car that I bought on my own, bought it 5 years ago for $2,400. Still going strong wouldn't trade it or sell it for anything. Love my land yacht
Owned my 97 LS for nearly a year now, got it for a steal and have already doubled my money on it. I’ll never sell it, regardless of how much they skyrocket or not
1UZ one of the best engines made its right next to that 2jzgte...they R&D the hell of it....My sc400 been running on boost , E85 and nitrous its a great motor....This LS400 is gorgeous
i've been rocking a 97 LS 400 since 2018 and absolutely love it. i've never had anything break or leave me stranded, any maintenance has always just been preemptive. it was a 2nd owner for $3200. i actually finally just dropped it a couple of months ago. I went with SSR Down celsior springs and kyb struts. it looks great and i don't have to deal with the air suspension complexity nor lose any comfort. handling is a bit tighter now and it has less body roll. About to finally hit 200k and def hope to make it to 500K-1 Mill. ngl though i am very happy i also have a 5MT honda fit. i can save miles on the lexus & also save on these gas prices but still drive this whenever i need or want to.
@@FitmentIndustries nothing too crazy, i still need to do the timing belt but other than that and getting the ECU caps redone, that's all the more or less left for the "major" maintenance. I might paint it, get it wrapped and put new wheels on [currently on the SC430 wheels] but not sure what i want to do yet. it's tempting to go all out but its also nice to just have something reliable you can turn on, drive and not worry about
I have a Fujitsubo cat back on my GS400. I can’t recommend it enough. It isn’t loud enough for most people that like exhaust upgrades but it’s throatier than stock. Perfect for a Lexus.
I got a 99 LS400 for 2000$ 180k on her, I love this car so much that It started me on collecting them. I bought a 2002 GS 430 & a 2004 LS430 . All 3 cars are amazing & I would never sell them. I love lexus v8 cars/ suv they are all spectacular vehicles
@@Dragon-hu7pt true, but prices on them have already rose quite a bit in the past year (like most things). Hopefully gas prices keep a cap on them for the V8 discount lol.
I got one for 1.5k. Has a bad transmission, but I found out it was the filter and I’m trying to find time to replace it. Other than that it looks like a dream. Drove it once just to hear that v8. And yes it’s a straight pipe, but also looking at an exhaust. Blessed to find a running and driving ls400 for 1.5k and it only has 225k miles! Interior is also mint
I have one coming from Japan as we speak. Not heard a bad word about them in fairness so I'm buzzing to get it. It looks an absolute bargain compared to what's out there at the moment.
I got a 92 LS400, currently making it factory new, trying keep it stock but I am thinking of putting some headers on it to let it breath more. Fixing a busted exhaust piped on back of the engine, cleaning the engine. Getting the heads machined, maybe bored, all new gaskets timing the whole thing. Also got a 92 SC400 that's my project car on the back burner, will work on it when I can, wanting to put a 7M-GTE in it with a 5 speed.
I have one of these over in the UK still my favorite car by far. This actually was the car that made me fall in love with the whole vip style. Just getting expensive on fuel these days only getting 28mpg. Next logical step up for me is the v12 century next (maybe one day)
I love my little 1991 cupholders. Small enough to not exist and usable with the right size cup for a 120 lb man. I just jam big cups in it otherwise if it has chance to tip I'm tripping. My wood grain so nice.
The reason you have issues with cupholders is because that "standard size" is an American standard size, Saul from better caul size actually has that issue in the show when he gets a European Merc company car
Note... Acura Legends - had adjustable rear seats before Lexus... I respect the LS400 & Q45 of the era... But the Legend did it all with more features fwd & 2 less cylinders for 45k in the 90s... I going to get 1 of all 3 cars... Live in Wis with friends in Texas...
I have a 97 ls400 coach edition and it's such a good ride. I only have 170k miles on it and it's the best car I've ever had. it is need of an exhaust repair, but in the mean time I'm enjoying that straight pipe V8 sound. still need to get it on some baller wheels and it'll be clean 🔥
I have a 97 UCF21 and Im gonna get BC racing coils but I keep delaying because the factory air suspension is so smooth it doesn’t even feel like your driving sometimes
LS400 is sweet but I opted for my LS430 three years based on reputation and reviews. I always planned on slamming my 1938 Chevrolet sedan with bags and was happy driving my LS430 everywhere until I became aware of the VIP style. I now plan on slamming my LS430 and simply lowering my 38 Chevrolet. I’ve always thought all vehicles look good closer to the ground and soon my LS430 will be there too
Glad I got mine for 3400 before prices go up again. On another note. Ls400 community is fucking awesome. Dudes who just help wanna see the car thrive. As it should be.
Is ECT power mode really that bad for the longevity of the engine. I thought it just made the transmission shift higher on the rev range for sportier driving. As long as your not red lining it often and doing good maintenance, i feel like its not that big of a deal.
I own a Lexus 2010 ES 350 with a V6, and I hear it's a good motor, but I was curious if this motor has a forged crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons because I want to make it faster, but I can't find any place that's sells racing stuff for this vehicle, so I am contemplating buying a 2010 GS 350, but I don't want to throw my money away because I put some money into my Lexus. I will appreciate any help. I agree with you a strong short block is hard to find for a good deal.
anyone has comments on how it does regarding aging electronic components and circuit boards ? Do capacitors start leaking past certain mileage/age ? What about ECU replacement parts, are these relatively easy to find and affordable? Thanks
for the cost. i'd get a mitsubishi diamante. comparable interior, less powerful. but also bullet proof 6g74 engine. more or less the same engine used in the pajero for Dakar. there's a great example for sale right now in texas, a 1999 for $8k with only 66k miles. but the lexus is definitely nice.
i just bought a 96’ Toyota celsior. Do the parts of this car fit mine ? ( sorry if it’s a dumb question) new to the scene and did some research and the celsior is basically the Japanese version of the ls400

I'm from the uk and i have a 1996 ls400 and a 2007 ls460. I've had the ls400 for 13 years and last month after 3 years of hibernation i got the ls400 out of the garage and gave it a repaint and rebuild. I forgot how smooth it is, it's just like its floating along
IT IS THE BOMB...
danm i miss my LS400 Lexus too..
I own a 1992 Lexus Ls400 my first actual car that I bought on my own, bought it 5 years ago for $2,400. Still going strong wouldn't trade it or sell it for anything. Love my land yacht
Land yachts are definitely the move! -Edgar
Owned my 97 LS for nearly a year now, got it for a steal and have already doubled my money on it. I’ll never sell it, regardless of how much they skyrocket or not
They're comfortable boats! -Edgar
Just got mines today ✨
I see these for cheap all the time. Great car. Had two ES300s. Grab one of those if you can’t find this lol.
Yup got an es in my yard too lol
Go for a ls430. One of the best cars I've bought. It's so good that I'm keeping it stock. And I've never said that.... Ever lol
Got 2 black on black 99s. Awesome car
some guy on my college campus has a slammed LS400 and that thing is sick as hell! If I wasn't into Euro cars I'd get one for sure.
Hi fitment Industries, thank you for bringing this skinny guy back to do reviews. I also used to have a 92' LS 400, 98' LS400 and a 2004 LS430 sport.
Hes still hanging around! -Edgar
1UZ one of the best engines made its right next to that 2jzgte...they R&D the hell of it....My sc400 been running on boost , E85 and nitrous its a great motor....This LS400 is gorgeous
I drive a 00 LS400. My original suspension is smoother than my friend’s 2014 GS350 when i bought it for him a few years back lpl
i've been rocking a 97 LS 400 since 2018 and absolutely love it. i've never had anything break or leave me stranded, any maintenance has always just been preemptive. it was a 2nd owner for $3200. i actually finally just dropped it a couple of months ago.
Any big plans for it! That’s awesome that it’s still going strong. 👏🏾 -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries nothing too crazy, i still need to do the timing belt but other than that and getting the ECU caps redone, that's all the more or less left for the "major" maintenance. I might paint it, get it wrapped and put new wheels on [currently on the SC430 wheels] but not sure what i want to do yet. it's tempting to go all out but its also nice to just have something reliable you can turn on, drive and not worry about
Speed Academy got this one tuned with a ford blower. It turned out very cool. Very cool kick-ass JDM old school car.
A BLOWER?! AYO. -edgar
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this specific LS400 when I was shopping for mine. I bought a blacked out 97 LS
I have a Fujitsubo cat back on my GS400. I can’t recommend it enough. It isn’t loud enough for most people that like exhaust upgrades but it’s throatier than stock. Perfect for a Lexus.
just bought a 96' and i'm so excited to properly build it
I got a 99 LS400 for 2000$ 180k on her, I love this car so much that It started me on collecting them. I bought a 2002 GS 430 & a 2004 LS430 . All 3 cars are amazing & I would never sell them. I love lexus v8 cars/ suv they are all spectacular vehicles
Yall need to take this one down... Ive been saving up for one, and the last thing I need is for the prices to go up now lol
😅😅😅 -Edgar
Same bro 😭😭
I doubt it bro , gas prices making people sell them
@@Dragon-hu7pt true, but prices on them have already rose quite a bit in the past year (like most things).
I guess no one’s heard of a Cressida
Just picked up a 99 LS400 for 4K with 158k now has 160878k about 2 weeks ago I love this car
Hello! Also an SC owner here. You got an IG for the build?
what company are you looking at for the headers? i havent been able to find anything under 1k for a set
Love the build, especially the dash. The screen and Airlift controller look so well integrated.
Does anyone has info about the wooden dash trim?
I rolled one of these and the only damage was the alignment and I busted the back left corner🙌🏻
You.. Rolled it?! -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries yessir thought I was gonna die but those things are boats. 10/10 best car I’ve ever had.
i just recently bought this model car for 555$ Definitely needs some work but after it sat for a few years and a quick jump, it started right up.
I have one of these over in the UK still my favorite car by far. This actually was the car that made me fall in love with the whole vip style. Just getting expensive on fuel these days only getting 28mpg.
Next logical step up for me is the v12 century next (maybe one day)
YESSSSS. Century's are awesome vehicles! -Edgar
Your getting 28mpg?! I get like 18mpg on my 2 99s
@@sneakerculture489 also gotta remember a English gallon is more then an American one but it does mostly motorway miles and average is 26/28
I love my little 1991 cupholders.
This should keep the heat off the ls430 prices for a bit
👀 -Edgar
I test drove one a few days ago and bought it. 1993 Lexus ls400 on coilovers. Gotta sell one of my cars now though so I'm not broke
Too bad all the ones in my area are crashed, have high mileage (200k+) or around 10k for clean ones
I know where you can get some wheels from 😉
That awkward moment when you talk about a car that’s dang near perfect but hasn’t gotten hit with the bro tax yet. Oops..
Grew up in the back seat of one of these and the LS430 I love these cars
I have a 97 UCF21 and Im gonna get BC racing coils but I keep delaying because the factory air suspension is so smooth it doesn’t even feel like your driving sometimes
idk why but this is probably the funniest video ive ever seen i love it
The facelift had a black interior that can be swapped into the square light models
My actual dream jdm/VIP car. I have loved them since day one. Wish I could find one cheap enough
I’ve always thought all vehicles look good closer to the ground and soon my LS430 will be there too
Let's go! Let us know if you need any help! 🙏
Glad I got mine for 3400 before prices go up again.
On another note. Ls400 community is fucking awesome. Dudes who just help wanna see the car thrive. As it should be.
Lot of cool mini model communities like that are the best. -Edgar
I just got a gs400 a few weeks ago. I wanna do the same prism film to my sunroof. Hopefully, I'll add a ls400 to the fleet one day.
man everybody got a ls400 now :( time to get a cressida 🤠
My 94 LS400 has 325,000 miles on it. I've put 150,000 of those miles on it. I wouldn't take less than $10,000 for it. There's no replacing it.
Is ECT power mode really that bad for the longevity of the engine. I thought it just made the transmission shift higher on the rev range for sportier driving. As long as your not red lining it often and doing good maintenance, i feel like its not that big of a deal.
I owned 3 ls 400 and I loved all 3 of them its the best car in the world in my opinion
LS400 my favorite car 4 sure I like the way the next generation looks when lowered
Could I know where you got the little figure hanging from the wiper control from? Thanks!
I agree with you a strong short block is hard to find for a good deal.
nice looking car and pretty clean.... that score was pretty low to me, but iam a big big ls400(430)fanboy. dope video also.
Gracias! 🙏 -Edgar
anyone has comments on how it does regarding aging electronic components and circuit boards ?
Do capacitors start leaking past certain mileage/age ?
What about ECU replacement parts, are these relatively easy to find and affordable?
Thanks
for the cost. i'd get a mitsubishi diamante. comparable interior, less powerful. but also bullet proof 6g74 engine. more or less the same engine used in the pajero for Dakar. there's a great example for sale right now in texas, a 1999 for $8k with only 66k miles.
but the lexus is definitely nice.
not anymore its not... thanks guys
i just bought a 96’ Toyota celsior. Do the parts of this car fit mine ? ( sorry if it’s a dumb question) new to the scene and did some research and the celsior is basically the Japanese version of the ls400
Don’t have an ls400, but I have an ls430 UL and I love it!
Just great cruisers. 🚤🚤🚤 -Edgar
Lexus LS 400, The King. Of luxury.
Started watching you guys for wheel fitment but I definitely hit that sub button when I seen you guys do videos like this 👍🏻👍🏻 what's this dude's name? I really like the way he explains cars
Thanks for the support! And this is Alex! Great guy when it comes to those details. -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries Thanks Edgar! much love from Az 💪🏻
That’s one of the first things i said when I purchased my 97’ ls400 in February, driving it felt like a cloud. I got super lucky finding one with 99k miles and with incredibly good interior and a pretty decent exterior 🥰 Can’t decide on a wheel set up though, let me know if anyone has any recommendations
What did you pay? I’m looking for one right now but the market is shot, $10k+ for 120k miles+
@@andrewb4077 I paid $6k for 99k miles back in march.
i feel ur rating should include reliability, and the LS should be the gold standard.
Here in so-cal they don’t go for less than 5k amd they’ll still have 200k+ miles ;(
What stereo and housing did you use because I also have a 97 and have been looking for the longest time?
What’s the big thing about taking photos of rides in front of docks?
Just sold my 99 almost pristine condition for a 2003 SC430 :) a little regret and a little not regret.
Any big plans for it?! -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries Keep it stock for now, maybe in future replace all the damaged Mark Levinson speaker with brand new OEM ones since the old ones are damaged, I love your video, please make more.
love my 96 black on black ls
Man I miss my Ls400, the boats the goat
🐐🐐🐐 -Edgar
I bought a LS400 in October of last year, and ever since, I’ve felt it was the best affordable JDM car and on top of that it doesn’t completely miss out on practicality
You don’t even need to modify it before you can truly enjoy the car, even stock you’ll love it. Not to mention the exhaust sound is one of my favorites out there 😍
