Thank you, Mr Fleming, I appreciate this video, especially that you give a much broader perspective on this subject. (unlike some of our local media).
My neighbors and I feel that we need new leaders in city government. The At Large representative, Rebecca Kaplan, attempted to blame former mayor Libby Schaaf on the 911 issues but Oaklanders need to know that Rebecca has been on the city council for 15 years and she is aware of these issues. 15 years is a lot of time but for politicians like Rebecca and her cohorts, it is easier to blame someone.
This proves that we need new leaders.
This is an incredibly thoughtful and brave video. The issues with OPD are so complex and so intertwined with other services and institutions, that it's going to be a very long road to get things right. For what it's worth, my personal interactions with OPD have been positive, but I generally pass through Oakland going to and from work, so I'm not as involved in the community that I can actually speak to the issues first hand. I don't know where the solutions lie, but your background information is really thought provoking. Thank you!

Very good job, I work in the area by 98th sad to see the Elmhurst park now looks like a garbage dump!
As a general contractor myself I know that the police need a leader or nothing gets done in fact we don't even call the police anymore because if someone was breaking in they wouldn't show up very quickly if ever and they can't do anything about it anyway.The fire department is great at station 20 ! There is a very interesting video of the Detroit police chief during protests a couple years ago and how he handled the situation...His leadership made a huge difference!

The city also needs a new slate of council people and mayor as they are not doing their job already one of them is running for the Board of Supervisors of Alameda County on a record that she doesn't have except ignoring the job at hand and being mealy-mouthed and making great speeches and yet doing nothing just like the incumbent lazy AF mayor

Just because they have a new police chief from Texas doesn't mean that he's going to clean up Oakland !!!! Texas and Oakland are two different worlds !!!

I don't no much about the hospital. Are your referring to Highland?
I think that since we're talking about the law enforcement perspective I'm not sure how the hospital perspective got in as it is not germane to the topic at hand
The police department should also be prepared to be held accountable when they do things that are not right I am not here to worship well paid narcissist who keep finding excuses to watch Cars Getting bipped and not doing anything but eating donuts and drinking cups coffee
I don't think this guy did has full research because Oakland police does have a substation in East Oakland on 73rd Avenue and foothilll boulevard East . And most of crime are not citizens of Oakland example most of the stolen cars are from other cities and brought to Oakland for Street takeovers crime did get bad around covid
Oakland needs to hire more social workers to takeover law enforcement tasks!😊
