You forgot Galactic Pinball on the Virtual Boy. You actually get to fly the ship and shoot.
Fun fact: Dread is the only Metroid game aside from the original NES entry where Samus’ ship is completely inaccessible to her.
Fun fact. Metroid Prime 3 was originally going to have segments where the player piloted Samus' ship. You can still see signs of it with the ship having pick ups that don't play much role.
That, and two buttons that raise the shields and activates the weapons respectively.
You can collect more ship missiles but all you ever need is one. You can tell it was going to have a bigger part but they ran out of time.
Even withiut that, Prime 3 is a great game

@@johnny-mnemonic13 crashed into an asteroid belt when she got taken over by the X parasites. They gave her a new ship in exchange to investigate the B.S.L. while following the AI commander in it.

Man, I forgot how many different spaceships Samus has. Bounty hunting business must be really booming, she’s changing her ships for almost every new missions.😆
Also gotta love the ship’s design. I imagine her instructions for the ship to be “Just make it look like my head.” LOL

You know if one day nintendo decides to devolop her charachter more it would be fun if they make her a sort of spaceshift nerd as neat little quirk of her personality.

Thank you for silencing Samus' monolog in the Other M footage...that's a blessing for us all.
My favourite is actually Metroid II GB… because there you can actually stay inside without closing the game and it gave you this "safe" feeling

@@stormy2049 considering the events of Federation Force and how it ties into Prime 3, as well as the presumed villain in Sylux, it's pretty much guaranteed Prime 4 takes place directly after Federation Force. And ofc we all know the prime series as a whole takes place between Zero Mission and Samus Returns

All in all, it looks like Samus owned 5 different spaceships in her gaming timeline. The classic round ship with the three hover pods (Return of Samus, Super, Prime 2 Echoes, Other M and Samus Returns), the Prime ship with the four thrusters (Prime, Hunters, Pinball), the Corruption ship with the two wings (Prime 3 Corruption, Federation Force), her first red ship (Zero Mission) and the purple Fusion ship (Fusion, Dread) Quite an impressive collection for one lone bounty hunter.

@@davosmando: That might have been the intent in the first Prime, but even if so, it seems they changed there mind with Prime 2, which clearly uses a design much more like the main games.
@@EmeralBookwise still, you can argue that they’re supposed to be the same ship. Why’d she switch to a different one for Prime 3 though? And since it returned for Federation Force, we know she canonically only uses that new ship for two missions (that we know of) then switches back to her Metroid 2/Prime 1&2/Super/Other M ship.
@@2yoyoyo1Unplugged: I don't think so. If it we just Prime 1, the maybe the difference in design could be hand waved as the same ship rendered in different art styles. It's not just Prime 1, however, the Prime 2 ship looks nothing like the Prime 1, and because the Prime 2 ship looks like the Returns/Super ship it makes it very clear that the Prime 1 ship can't be the same.
Fun Fact: The sound of the Gunship in flying past the camera in Super Metroid is taken from the speeder bike chase in 'Star Wars: Return of the Jedi'. The exact moment where this sound effect occurs starts after Leia collapses and the film cuts to Luke and the Scout trooper making a huge turn on their speeders.
What's even cooler about Samus's space ships is that in the Prime series it states that Samus designed or at least took part in the design process for them.
Makes sense. They all have a unique design when compared with the ships of the Federation.
I wouldn't be surprised if all of these are Thoha Chozo designs, or at least heavily influenced by them.
Maybe it's just me, but I noticed some significance in the color of Samus' ships. The first from zero mission symbolizing her helmet, the second ship from Samus returns symbolizing her base suit armor, and the third from fusion symbolizing the gravity suit plates.
Never thought of that but now that you mention it, that is pretty clever symbolism
I never noticed all the detail that went into the ship in Samus Returns. That and fusion's are the best looking ones.

yknow, I never fully realized how much Samus Returns borrows from other Metroid games. The appearance fanfare is from the Prime games, the landing tune is from Prime 2 (easy way to tell aside from listening is the chorus, all Prime games used a chorus in some sense but that one stands out since I think Prime 2 is the only one to have a special landing theme), if I'm correct the item pickup tune is from Prime games as well. The Baby Metroid's cries are from Super (just found out today) and that's a good use of resources, gotta say
It also remixes a lot of other music from previous metroid games.
I think that's one reason I liked Samus Returns so much. It took the some of the small but best parts of previous games and implemented them into itself. Small subtle things that add to the experience.
It played it safe since it was the first 2d metroid in 13 years.
I'd have preferred all that to not be the case, honestly.
And the theme that plays when Samus is shown inside her Gunship is a remix of the theme that plays when she is in her Gunship in Metroid Prime 3!
The ship in Metroid 2 actually has energy and missile rechargers in it, yoy have to roll into a ball to reach them though
The total amount of use of the ship is on par with the one from Fusion.

Bounty hunting must be a nice work for her to afford these many spaceships.
Metroid Prime 3 still has her coolest gunship, though I wish there were opportunities for you to use it against enemies in open areas.
I also quite like her Prime 2/Samus Returns/Super gunship and the Fusion/Dread gunship.
I like the continuity of the ships in the 2D games. In Zero mission she has that red ship with the two prongs that got shot down by the space pirates. Sometime before Metroid 2 she gets the wide yellow ship. She has that ship for Metroid 2 and Super Metroid until she crashes it the the asteroid belt before fusion because of the X infection. And then for Fusion and Dread she has the purple ship.
i still find it funny how the space pirates have sperm shaped ships and samus immediately ditched it after the one emergency use
@@brandonwithnell612 given Space Pirate disregard for safety, I don't blame her. The thing probably made a TIE fighter look safe and well engineered.
My favorite ship is from Corruption. It resembles a high speed bird as well as her helmet which they always tried to do.
Since Dread came out, each of Samus' Gunships have appeared in at least 2 Metroid games each.
Zero Mission ship-Zero Mission, cameo in opening credits of Samus Returns.
Metroid Prime ship-Prime and Hunters.
Metroid 2 ship-Echoes, Metroid 2, Samus Returns, Super Metroid, Other M, cameo in opening credits of Fusion.
Metroid Prime 3 ship-Corruption, Federation Force.
Fusion ship-Fusion, Dread.
Supers holds a special place in heart, but prime 3s is so badass.
I like to think each ship we have seen in the games got blown up at one point which is why she always has a new ship
i honestly loved how much they integrated the ship in the gameplay in prime 3.
Fun fact, her Prime 1/Prime Hunters gunship is actually the rebuilt version of her original gunship, though we have no clue where it went after Prime Hunters. We honestly don't know how many ships she still has stored away even after losing her Prime 2/Samus Returns/Super gunship and presumably the Prime 3 gunship.

I just realized that the ship in Metroid Prime 2 and the ship that crashed in the opening of Metroid Fusion are the same!
Jup it’s the same ship she uses in Prime 2, Samus Returns, Super, Other M and the intro of Fusion.
It sadly met it’s end in Fusions opening
My only gripe with the fusion ship in dread is that the wings were too far extended from the original. I really loved metroid prime 3 ship. That was a very cool one!

The Bounty Hunting must be good for all the ships she has. I imagine she has a masion on some planet and when she wakes up she picks which Varia suit to wear then goes to a massive garage just lined with these one person ships. She looks around and says, "Alright boys, who's taking on an adventure today?"
Prime 3 is still my favorite design.
Kinda weird that she has the Metroid 2/Super Metroid ship in Prime 2, but then has a completely different ship in Prime 3.
Out of the sprites from the older games I prefer Fusion Samus sprite. It looks so colorful and vibrant.
I always thought the ship from MII and SM looked like versions of her helmet.
How come no one is talking about the pixels not aligning when the ships from fusion and zero mission fly in. When small, they don’t appear to be pixelated at all.

Wish I had a mini pc that doubles a Samus amiibo stand. Been sitting on that idea for a while now, can’t find anyone that has a 3D printable file for the ship as a case.
I feel like Prime 4's gonna feature Samus's cool and fancy Prime 3 gunship, but then it blows up at some point in the game, so she very reluctantly starts reusing the one from Prime 2 again (which is why she uses it from Metroid II all the way to Fusion's prologue).

I don't like the design they settled with in Fuzion & Dread. The most iconic is the design in Metroid 2, Super Metroid & Metroid Prime 2....that's Samus' ship for me.
Well that design is dead since they essentially wanted a new look for Samus as a whole in Fusion. Because they grew bored of the Varia.
Thus settling for destruction of her ship and the surgical removal of the power suit

I'm a little annoyed at the design inconsistency caused by Prime 3 ngl. All of the mainline games and prime 1 and 2 use either her original ship, or her upgraded ship from Fusion, but Prime 3 and Federation Force use a different ship (one that's closer to the Fusion ship, but with an orange color palette). Normally I would interpret this as a retcon, like how they changed Samus' Zero Suit from what's essentially sportswear to the skin tight design from Zero Mission, but that's not the case here. Since the Prime games take place in between Metroid 1 and 2, having Samus use her original ship design in Samus Returns totally throws off the possibility of this being a retcon. So, it's a little bit of a timeline inconsistency.
Maybe Samus was lent or designed a new ship from the Federation that was either requisitioned back or destroyed. So she went back to using her previous gunship for Samus Returns.
Prime 1 and Hunters (and Pinball) were already using a different ship.
Could just be that Samus has many. We don't know anything about her lifestyle outside missions.

Oof. Nintendo really did the DS a disservice by not incorporating anti-aliasing and it is most clear with Hunters. What a pixelated mess...
Why do you need AA on a screen that has the same resolution as the output. That’s like putting AA on a Super Nintendo while playing on a Super Nintendo
@@theakiwar9118 In the case of a SNES, AA wasn't necessary because of the way the image was projected onto a CRT screen: it smoothed out anyway. Because an LCD screen works differently, you need a way to smooth the image rendered on that screen. AA is what does this, but for the DS it was something that had to be implemented by the developper; it wasn't a standard thing. I personally found 3D games pretty harsh on a DS because a lot of them didn't properly had AA implemented. If we compare Ocarina of Time N64 on a CRT to the 3DS port, there's a noticable difference in rendering. That same difference becomes less when rendering both games on an LCD, because the original didn't have that need.

Prime 3 had the worst looking ship in my opinion
If you wanna have any kind of consistency in the chronology, then Prime 3 makes zero sense at all.
That or Prime 2.
She lost her first ship in Zero Mission and so has a new ship in Prime which she continues to use in Hunters. For whatever reason she is then using a third ship in Echos, which appears to also be the same ship she will later use again in Returns and Super. Then for yet more unkown reasons she switches to a forth ship in Corruption which she continues to use Federation Force.
Echos is really the odd game out, as ignoring that one game alone, the ships would otherwise transition in an entirely linear progression. Changing that single instance to either the Prime or Corruption ship would fix things.
Just like Samus herself, it gets needlessly skinnier over time. Bring 6'3" 200ibs of muscle Samus back, OG Samus could snap modern Samus in half with just one leg and I'm supposed to take her serious as a "badass" ffs.

I think they changed Samus in Zero Mission and Fusion to convey that she's a nimbler character. I don't know if making her shorter was needed for that, though. That being said, both Returns and Dread have hit a better balance. She's still nimble but her overall appearance is closer to Super's.
Either way, at the end of the day, what makes her a badass is not how she looks, but rather what she does. She's remained pretty damn consistent in most of the games on that front.
I will admit that her ship looks a bit lame in Zero Mission. Too basic, maybe a result of the more comic-book like artstyle that Nintendo chose?
@@zappandy the zero mission ship is just there to show how she starts but it is intended to be destroyed. She then spends a whole trilogy and then some with a new ship and upgrading that. How she goes from her 3 design to her super design i'm unsure. But maybe we'll see in prime 4?

I've also thought that Retro will develop a game explaining how she ended up with her Returns/Super ship.
Super still looks best to me. Cool details and a distinctive look.. Dread version looks incredibly generic and the same sterile shiny style much of that game is in.

@@theakiwar9118 yes, but the hues in Dread are darker. To be fair, in the GBA, they used more distinct colors to highlight the system's capabilities.
@Carnivius Dread does actually have some distinct sections here and there. Nintendo did not show them off in videos as consistently, though. I think it's more a matter of the color palette they went with rather than being generic looking. I will admit that all of the EMMI sections in the game are pretty bland, but they are a small portion of the overall experience.
@@zappandy Uh. I have played through Dread. I got a (2nd hand) Switch pretty much for it. Bought it , completed it, sold it. So you don't need to talk to me like I never played it. I waited about 15 years for that disappointing experience. Jeez. And no it's not just Dread's colour palette that makes it look generic. in Super, Fusion and Zero I was constantly interested in exploring more and seeing each distinct location, heck even after multiple replays I still enjoy going to each section. I got nothing of that in Dread. The whole game felt like a slog to get through (and the EMMI sections are annnoying just like random battles in turn based RPGs. They feel more like a frustrating nuisance than intimidating) and I only did it so I could sell it and get most of my money back because holy crap it is so not worth it's retail price.
Sorry if I seem a lil aggressive. Haven't slept. And yeah I really feel hugely disappointed with Dread. It's just not that good. The others I mentioned I have enjoyed time and time again. I can't imagine myself ever wanting to play Dread again.
