This looks like a perfect handheld to emulate most handheld consoles except for the PSP. Super excited and fingers crossed they release it sooner rather than later
Since a 3ds is so expensive nowadays this could be a very good alternative without having to compromise to much, while also having so much more functionality. The 3ds is my favorite Console and i have a tiny collection of the games and systems. But i am still very temped. Even tho i don’t need it.
i definitely want to wait and see how the quality ends up being.
It's definitely interesting, though there is no chance this will be cheaper than a regular 3ds, and 3ds emulation is still not very good and isn't getting better any time soon thanks to Citra shutting down
Just mod your 3ds. Or 2ds I very cheap still but very good.
The screen splitted in 2 for 3ds is definitely too small

Yep. Absolute minimum is 5-6 inch screen for ds or 3ds.
This handheld demo show really made the square screen argument very compelling. I always thought it was nonsense, but with nice bezel arrangement, it looks very nice and tidy.
This should be a solid competitor to the Unicorn

I wanted to build an arcade machine and was trying to figure out the best aspect ratio, and it turns out 1:1 is the best aspect ratio. Which I guess kind of makes sense, since it's a square and you can put all the rectangles in it, you want in both orientation and it would work. Obviously some will have greater bezels than other.
I think it's really clever how they utilize the screen and split it in half through software exactly as Nintendo did with the 2DS...but I'm still not convinced I'd buy something like this. I've very much satisfied with hotkeying the triggers or L3 or R3 to toggle between screens on my Retroid Pocket and still have a widescreen form factor for game streaming systems that a given device doesn't have the horsepower for i.e. Nintendo Switch.
If the price and D-pad are good, I might buy it. 🍻
Anbernic used what appears to be the same dpad as the RG Arc and it’s widely considered excellent

@@nickentros I’m hoping for $150 🤞🏼 I haven’t had the pleasure of trying a Sega style D-pad yet, I wonder if it is just as good as the traditional 4 direction Nintendo D-pads I’m used to for platformers. I’m sure fighting games are great on it. 🍻
It might all come down to the price. Can't help but feel, at least for me, that I would have just preferred lower Powkiddy RGB30 type specs with Anbernic's better quality to enjoy vertical arcade shooters and the Gameboy era games. The 3DS/PS2/Gamecube emulation and touchscreen are not what I am looking for from this form factor and obviously will likely push the price up. Still intending to buy it as I want the square screen and will never buy from Powkiddy from being burnt by their quality in the past. Just suspect with this that I am going to pay Anbernic twice the price I need to for features I don't want.

Without a doubt it will be the best 3DS option from the Anbernics line up. It needs to be priced right. Having the 556 and currently at great discounts I dont think I would pay the same price for it. 🤞
In terms of GBA on this panel, a 720 resolution gives a great integer scale, I believe 3x integer scaling
Exactly what I'm thinking. It's a shame that the RG SP doesn't offer the resolution that would let us use integer scaling of GBA games at full screen.
This one is so odd, I'm not against it but I really wish we would have gotten a handheld at this power level with a 4:3 screen first wild we still don't have one announced.
16:9 screen is fine for 4:3 games when you run them in 3:2.

nah this screen is perfect since you can see both screens of the 3ds and ds from top to bottom. There are too many 4:3 screens out there not at this power like you said but I can't fathom that it'll make a big enough difference between 4:3 and 1:1
@StopToBreathe it's a pretty big difference you lose a lot of screen to black bars. A screen like this is perfect for gb and pico8 but those can be played on any device. Literally the only reason this exists is for 3ds and 3ds emulation is ages behind all the other emulation you can so in a decide like this.
We’ll see, I just want to see how ps2 and gamecube feels in a hands on review.
I wish they would replicate the old 2ds design with a square display so it will be comfortable to play DS games & vertical shoot them up games. I love the old 2ds weirdness.
This is the first handheld that has actually gotten me excited in a very long time. Hopefully you can turn off the lights around the joysticks, they seem very distracting.

Changes nothing as I already love my RGB30 - it was obvious to me that 1x1 was perfect for a lot of what I play from the beginning. Not sure how anyone would doubt the screen if they knew the sizes of the screens on what they want to emulate.
is it me or the powkiddy handhelds use these foul smelling plastics? had to refund mine due to the terrible smell.

all except psp is good enough for me i can whip out a proper widescreen android handheld for psp. 3ds/ds is more important to me right now to get right
I mean, this is basically the screen of the rgb30, so games will look the same.
I don't buy the gimmick, it would be a lot better a rectangular/vertical version of the 405 series screen.

too bad the color ways are just awful... sure they added black... but that "purple" is hideous and the other two colors are both types of gray lol. Why cant we have some transparent colors? This is clearly a rebranded ZPG A1 Unicorn which was originally shown with an atomic purple color way... It doesn't have to have that color but at least a transparent smoke grey and maybe a transparent light blue... or just straight clear would be cool too.
