Keto-Mojo will be rolling out a trade-up program to their new GK+ Meter, in stages over the next few weeks. If you have the Bluetooth model of the Keto-Mojo Meter, you will receive an invitation to upgrade within the next two weeks on the Keto-Mojo mobile app. If you use the older, non-Bluetooth model, you should work through your current supply of test strips, then contact Keto-Mojo customer service through their website. Also, be aware that the packaging of your GK+ kit may differ from what was sent to me.
Hi Steve, My understanding is that Keto Mojo is discontinuing the old type of test strips, so we have no choice but to upgrade to a new device. I was really happy with my current one and am really disappointed I have to change it now, I've only had it since May. But I appreciate your review and hopefully it won't cost me anything to upgrade to the new one.
@@juliel6254 May I be the devil's advocate and point out the following? 1) The meter is deliberately priced pretty low, compared to the strips. 2) At 20% cheaper, the new strips price difference will pay for the new meter if you use them relatively frequently. That's just my observation. I already purchased the new meter, and have to "use up" the strips I just bought about a month ago, because I didn't know this was going to happen.
Thanks for the video and the information on the upgrade. Without this info, I would have had no clue about what is going on with the new device. The look of the new app kinda left me wondering what was going on a while back. Thanks again for the info and keeping us up to date.
Thank you! I'm prediabetic and my keto mojo was delivered via Amazon today. Your videos were much better than the teeny tiny instructions. New sub! You're a Godsend!
Thanks so much for this unboxing video. I received my meter one week ago but hadn't set it up or used it because I wasn't quite sure how to do it, even after seeing a couple of videos that Keto-Mojo put out. I feel much more confident now.
As a long time diabetic who has to test my blood glucose often, I can truly say you are lucky that the strips for this machine are now are individually wrapped! That way the ending strips are still as good as the beginning ones!! Every time you open a vial of strips they are exposed to the air, which degrades them. That means every time you opened the vial and took out a strip to take a test, the remaining ones became less and less reliable. Individually wrapped means each strip is fresh! So this way you can trust the readings you get with the last strip as much as you could with the first strip!! Wish I could say the same!! LOL But Medicaid only pays for the low end glucose meters that use the vial method for strips. Good luck with the new meter. Really enjoy your videos .. I could swear sometimes that you sound like that radio guy that does the top ten countdown on the weekends... Of course I cant remember his name.. lol God Bless and thank you! ps,,, Where do I find that mini Bundt maker.. and how do I find one in a decent color ..lol
@Patsy Stone Yes she was thinking Casey Casem.... I was thinking he sounded more like Shadow Stephens....Steve, you need audition for your local radio stations...
Thank you very much Steve for all that you do with your channel. I started Keto 2 months ago and have been doing really well but when I saw your testing videos I thought about how important that would be to my progress. I ordered the new GK+ full kit because with your discount it was only $77 great deal thank you. Just got my kit in yesterday and when I tested this morning for the first time after 14 hours of fasting my blood glucose was 74 ketones was 2.0, needless to say I was very happy so I'll be testing from now on. I have never had a meter of any kind so the individual packed test strips do not bother me and I love the Bluetooth because I love gadgets. Thanks again Steve for your product reviews and your delicious recipes.
I wish one strip could do both readings! I'm with you on the case a place on the spine to put the lancet would be nice! Overall it looks and seems to be a fine machine oh and I kind of like the individually wrapped strips you can just put them in your wallet/handbag and test when you need to without carting the whole bottle of strips around. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the review, and thank you for the 15% discount! I just placed an order. It's time for my hubby and I to get serious about keto. We love your channel.
After almost 2 months, I was unable to get enough blood for a test. I tried all the hints out there to no avail. Almost gave up but thanks to you recommending the Caretouch and how to scoop the sample, I am now able to get readings instantly.
That’s great! I need to see how he ‘scoops the sample’. I’m having problems getting enough blood, too. Never had a problem with this for my BG Monitor.
@@rebeccabrown5014 I let my arm hang down at my side for 60 secs before taking a blood sugar reading. That helps. Also if you are cold might want to run your hands under warm water for a minute first.
I'm so glad you posted this! I have been mulling around getting one, and saw this one on their website recently. I hadn't had a chance to go back and rewatch your old keto mojo reviews to compare what is different. I watched this one and ordered this model, plus extra strips via your link. Thanks for the review!
Cool! Mine's supposed to arrive Friday. I've been looking forward to this since March, when I talked to them at Low Carb Denver. Good notes on the subtleties.
Individually wrapped strips are so they don’t expire so quickly right? I can appreciate that, but some level of reducing waste should have been on their minds.
I'm not thrilled with the idea of individual wrapped strips, but I do have to wonder if the plastic bottles they currently come in might be more wasteful than the thin foil packaging? Unless you reuse those little bottles, they just get tossed. I didn't see an recycle marks on them.
@@juliel6254 you are correct. The challenge with the vials is they can not be recycled due to the dehumidifier liner in the barrel of the vial or the cap. also once opened the strips start to degrade due to humidity. There is a trade off here, we felt single package was better.
Thanks for this video Steve! You’ve been a big inspiration to me for awhile now. It’s time to take this even more seriously, order placed! I’m always looking forward to your content!
Looks like a great product. I finally pulled the trigger on getting one and used your discount, thanks!. I've never tested my ketones before so looking forward to getting this tester.
I've been using the Bluetooth model since March. Just got the offer to upgrade, should be here by the weekend. Nice upgrade of "60" test strips versus "50" at a cost reduction. You're right minor nit picks on ejector and case. I like the older version the way it looks. My test strips are almost out, so this is good timing for the new one. Also my daughter just graduated from Carroll last May. Go Pioneers!
Thanks for the update. I have the Bluetooth adapter for the GKI, SO I don’t think I need a new MOJO. I am not thrilled with individually wrapped test strips.
Thank you Steve for doing a review on the new Keto Mojo. I need new strips for my old meter (59.00) and just bought the new one for 77.00. Initially the cost was $99 (18% savings), I made mention about trading in my old model in the comment box and the price changed to 77.00! So happy to get the new one as I calculate my GKI on my calculator- Ha!
When I had a Zoom call with Dorian (the owner) last week, he said the goal is to get everyone who wants to be upgraded taken care of by the end of the year. They are doing this at a zero profit margin.
I used your discount with the sale they had for Cyber Monday and got the same model as yours, with strips and lancets. It came out to 77.00. The sale price was 90.. and then the discount brought it down to 77. I think the sale is still on. My old monitor was fine and I had a lot of expired strips. I'm glad I got it because it was cheaper than just the strips they sell. Those strips are hard to ope. So I am using small scissors to cut. You can bend the foil and see where the strip is. They are too expensive to waste. Thanks So much for the video and discount code.
Yay for cheaper! Totally with you on the February enigma.. I want a fridge magnet! Did you know alcohol can effect the glucose count? A nurse told me that. Yeah, I want to sync my phone, but maybe I can't. I have the old one and I'm not gonna play the "upgrade game". I don't use the bag. I made a fitted, hard-case box for it that is almost the same size as my Bullet-Journal. Better for me. Love the glasses! 🤓
Thank you Steve for your great easy to understand review of the keto mojo I’ve been on the fence about getting one because I’m a little technicality challenge d
we have already updated packaging on next round of manufacture. easier to tear and instead of the dehumidifying/stiffener strip, we have added a desiccant spray coating.
I went to the Keto Mojo store a few days ago and saw the trade in option. Although, I have the Bluetooth model, I decided to trade up. Now, looking at your video, there doesn’t seem to be much difference. At least, the strips are cheaper.
Hi Steve. Don’t care who tells you what, you don’t need to use alcohol wipes. Just wash your hands. Those are YOUR germs, unless you’ve cleaned up after a dog or a grandson😉 or something. About the case, rip out their webbing, use some Velcro or elastic, and do your own design. Also, it may work to insert the device upside down, why take it out every time? (37 years of nursing, military and civilian, shoulder is be good for something.)
Agree, no alcohol needed as it can also interfere with the test result. **Always wipe off the first drop of blood, then do the test on the following drops.** Kind of looks like your poke is a little low. Capillary bed is upper part of finger, and poke to the side, not in the middle of the pad. Remember that 15% is a pretty wide range for accuracy. Can't say values show decrease or increase unless difference is large enough to account for % error. Medical Technologist here. 🤓👩🔬
I've had Keto-Mojo GK+ for about a month and I love it. You were the deciding factor. On a side note... They use alcohol swabs on prisoners getting lethal injections... think about that one for a moment.
Think I’ll stay with my Bluetooth unit. Like where my eject button it. Also, the term pre-prandial and post-prandial refers to before or after lunch or dinner. Thanks for the info! Wondering if the strip pricing has been reduced for our previous monitors as well. Or if the strips are interchangeable.
@@SeriousKeto Do we have to send in our old keto mojo to get the new one? I want to use my current strips before buying new ones. Do you get a few strips with the new one?
I was skeptical of ketomojo about taking the old GKI bundle from the website but the upgrade offer is really great, thank you keto mojo and thank you serious keto!
I think that KM didn't want me to disclose the details of the upgrade because they didn't want a big surge all at once. They estimate that 28K people are going to upgrade (based on active users of the app) and they have about half that amount in stock. But more is on the way and KM is hoping to have everyone upgraded before year end.
@@SeriousKeto ^^^^^This is correct, our shipping company can not handle that volume with social distancing. Nor can our manufacturing in one go. Regular users of our older meter testing on the app will receive an upgrade invite and we will phase it over time to balance ship time and inventory.
I'm a little late, but thanks for the review! I was considering switching from the Precision Xtra to something else because the strips are so expensive. I figure that over time this will pay for itself. I kind of prefer the foil wraps only because I don't test every single day. Consequently, this should keep my test strips from going bad. I'm also glad you showed the app because I've had problems with other bluetooth apps not syncing with my phone very well. Thanks again!
Great video, as usual. Remember the DMAIC. Please test your measurement system. I'd personally like to see measurement variability over time. Tests with the standard solution would be interesting, too. A comparison with the older measurement gauge would be stellar. Keep pumping out the great vids Steve. Let the force be with you.
I figured the FDA already tested over 350 times. What would a knucklehead with a UA-cam cooking channel add to that? I ran out of glucose strips on the old unit, but did a side by side test of the ketone readings between the old and new. There was a .1 point difference. It's too bad I can't attach a pictures, or I could show it to you.
Looks like a great upgrade. I'd love to see a zip pouch in the case to hold all of my lancets. I'd rather keep them in something like that rather than in a ziplock. The Precision Xtra has this and I love it.
The first thing they are doing is contacting the Bluetooth users via the mobile app. If you find that you are getting low on strips, you can contact them directly through their customer service page to get the details on the upgrade.
Steve, I never knew there was a thumb switch.🙄 Also of interest - When I met my husband in 1995, I had had my Volkswagen Jetta for 10 years. He jumped in and hit the sunroof. It opened all the way back instead of the two inches up. 🙄 And then, 10 more years into having my Toyota Camry, I found the sunglasses holder over the dome light.🙄 THANKS, STEEEVE!😁👍 💃🏻💞
Thanks for the Video Steve. I was very happy with the current version and the strip packaging so I’m not terribly enthusiastic about a new device. I did go ahead and upgrade this morning and it was $77.01 if anyone is wondering what that runs.
As I understand it, the "upgrade" is just to purchase the new strips and then you get the monitor. So if you're consuming strips, the cost to upgrade is what you would pay just in the course of buying strips that you'd be using anyway. Is this not the case?
I’ve had mine since February (I’m in Europe) and haven’t damaged any test strips while opening them. I usually open them up carefully before I swap with alcohol or prick my finger making the whole test easier.
I just did a reading with my old meter and the new meter and they were not the same. My old meter is less than 4 months old. I did use my left and right index fingers so could that make a difference ? I will do another test tonight and use blood from the same finger using both meters to see what the results are.
Great review. Thanks for the discount code. Bought the kit. I have a "breathalizer" Keto meter, but as I'm a newbie to Keto, I am a little leery. I'll compare the "breathalizer" results to the GK+ to see. Might use the "breathalizer" for spot checks, and the GK+ daily so I can track GKI. Thanks again.
I had a conversation with Dorian at Keto-Mojo and he told me the accuracy rates for breathalyzers vs blood ketone testers. I don't recall the specific numbers, but breathalyzers are considerably less accurate. That said, it also doesn't cost 80 cents every time you use it -- so it sounds like you have a good strategy.
@@SeriousKeto Reading about all the things that can influence a breathalizer (brushing your teeth!) after I bought it made me a believer in checking blood. I check glucose in the morning when I wake up - "fasting" glucose. Should I be checking Ketosis at same time, or is there a better time of day to check it?
I really like the lancet pen - it's adjustable and doesn't hurt hardly at all. I suppose since I don't have any other option (since it's the only one I own) I don't have a comparison, but... the adjustability is nice. I have been impressed with the overall system, but I didn't get all of the other fancy stuff that you did even though I ordered the exact same package :( No fridge magnet, etc.
I just received my first Keto Mojo a couple of days ago. I believe that I used your link. I ordered the premium package but mine came packed different from yours and there were no magnets. Not a big deal but it’s a bit disappointing since I didn’t receive the same getting started paperwork and magnets. I am having trouble getting the test strips to absorb the drop of blood. I have used a BG Meter for a couple of years and those test strips seem much easier. Hopefully I’ll get used to the Keto Mojo strips. Thanks for your review!
I found that with the old strips, I had to come in at about a 45 degree angle. With these new ones, I just go straight down into the blood droplet and that seems to work best. Also, I think that magnet was a special thing just for their "ambassadors".
I got my Keto-Mojo a few weeks ago (older model) and I am very happy with it. Wish I knew there was a newer model coming out but regardless I love tracking my levels. So much more accurate than test strips. I agree with the quality of the pricking pen. It just didn't work for me. I just use the lancet and jab myself.
Contact the company and see if they offer you the upgrade. I had purchased mine less than a month after they released the new one. They sent me a package to send back my old KM device and I got a link to purchase the new supplies and got new device
I received a "free" pouch of macadamia vanilla nut butter in my last order of Perfect Keto stuff. Hadn't really figured out what to use it for. Last night I put some in my desert protein shake. Damn yummy.
Reluctant to try this new one. Could NEVER get my old keto mojo to work and they flat out didn’t care. Said there was no return because it comes in contact with blood. Sure but I paid over $100 for it. Terrible service.
Great video. I bought my meter just three months ago, works great, but now I can’t even get strips because according to the website the new strips won’t work? Or am I totally missing it!? I k ow they are not available on Amazon. UPDATE: Went to the Keto Mojo Website and ordered direct from there. Still Not on Amazon though.
I went to their website today to order the bundle pack for my keto-mojo and they were no longer available as a bundle pack. However, I did get the option to upgrade my unit to the GK+ which I decided to go ahead and do. It was $55 for the new monitor with lancet device, 70 test strips each of both the glucose and ketones, 20 lancets and the control solutions plus an additional $9.95, to cover the recycling of the old unit, which they will be sending me a return envelope for.
So I had just bought a Keto-Mojo Shipped to me on Sept 29, was the onel ike your old one and I love it. Then I went to order more strips and was not sure on what strips to order b/c they make that confusing. So I emailed them and this is what they said: They said that the Brand new machine I got like your yours with grey button was going to not have strips to order for it soon so they are doing a upgrade for everyone to the one you got. You have to pay for 60 Ketone strips and 60 Glucose strips to qualify and send back your old machine. They do give you the prepacking/ paid for mailing to return the old machine within 30 days of receiving the new one. However, they charge you for the shipping return a lot so you pay for strips, and your state taxes and then $10 in shipping ( too much should of been free ) so I paid another $72 after just buying my kit online and that was frustrating. Your old strips will NOT work with the new machine and again you only have 30 days to mail it back so if you have a lot of strips you need to rush through them so you can mail back in time. Thats not that big of a deal, a good time to check ketones on all kinds of foods and times... With all that said, although I just got use to my new machine and I love it, ( Worth every penny and some ) I am happy they are offering the new machine for the price of the strips. I ruined about 10/10 strips when I got my machine maybe even 15 total now, it is very sensitive to how you do the blood and gotta say makes those strips very expensive when you ruin one, you cringe. Very upsetting...So excited to have something more accurate. I also was gonna order another 60 of each strips anyway and for the same price plus ridiculous cost of shipping I get 70 each ( 10 extra, makes me feel not so bad about the strips I waisted now ) and I get a extra pin and they give you 20 extra Lancets for your Stabbing your finger machine and that should last you a long time. I do not mind my Pen to stab self, it is easy to use, but they do not sell the lancets anywhere that I can tell and they suggest you change them at every use? That would be ridiculous so I have yet to change mine and it is fine, SO I get that as well and they give you the machine and that and lancets and 10 each of the strips and the calibrating solution all free..So for $72 ( Thats with tax and ridiculous amount on shipping that should of been free ) I get all that extra free and the upgrade on the machine, Although you can tell I am bugged about the shipping, I am very very happy with the company. Just email customer service if you do not have the link for discount, they are wonderful... I can not imagine now doing weight loss w/o having this keto-mojo it is a MUST have best Keto investment ever...I love it... It is shocking on the results... Steve one question I have for you is do you drink Butter coffee with using a C8 powder and butter ? I use kerry gold and elevate c8 Powder by Biotech ( Spendy ) but taste great and will raise your Ketones with one cup or pop you right into Ketosis if you fall out or are very low...My Question is, does this kick you out of your Fast? And is it better to have your blood sugar and ketones in a moderate level or low level for weightloss so would you say if my ketones are super low like a .5 or a .6 and no Butter coffee that the fast would be best or if I have my butter coffee and it pops me up to a 1.1-1.4 ketones? And lowers sugars..>In other words, if I am watching my blood sugars and ketones and they are staying low suagr and ketones are higher with the butter coffee and C8 it is NOT breaking my fast? or is it still breaking my fast and preventing me from getting super high ketone level like you at a 4.5? Sure would love to hear your thoughts on this...Your quite wonderful and I love you and your show...Thank you for all you do!
@@SeriousKeto I saw your other answer and I will do exactly as you suggest. I just wanted to tell you thank you so much. This little machine has changed my life and anyone that is doing Keto needs one...Worth every cent. Now to dial in my results. So thank you, your amazing :D
I like the 20% cheaper keto strips! I was thinking about your starch test videos. You were using the old model MOJO and on the last test you switched to the new one. Your test could have been affected. Scientifically I think you should have stayed with the same monitor to get same base line results. Especially since you said this new monitor has more accurate results.
I actually did a side by side test of the two meters after I had uploaded the starch video. Blood glucose was 3 points different and ketones were .1 point different.
Just tried to order strips for my old original keto-mojo. When i went to order them. I was offered to upgrade. I just had to buy the test strip kit and i got the new meter free.
I just did the same thing. I figured I might as well. It ended up being almost the exact same price as if I had bought the regular strips. Plus I get 20 strips more of each than I originally would have... that's a win in my book. :)
I just spoke with Victoria regarding a new purchase. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a new meter due to the age of my TD-4279 and I needed order more Ketone Test Strips (TS). While chatting she did say that they will be revising the strip packaging for the next run of Test Strips, so more to come. The other TS’s for the TD-4279 will be discontinued at this years end. I’m just waiting for 2020 to be over as soon as possible, Cheers
The individual packing prevents the (?)oxidation and degradation of the rest of the strips each time you open the container. Leads to more consistent readings and reduces wasting of strips.
Not sure how you feel about the individual strips, but you have individual alcohol pads? Get a bottle of alcohol and big pack of cotton balls? What's your 3-month update on the individually wrapped strips?
Thanks for the review Steve! Your reviews are very thorough and honest and I appreciate that about you. I also love that you were not diabetic but continue to check your blood glucose and Keytone’s. I have a non-Bluetooth keto mojo. Are the strips compatible with the new one?
Another great review! I bought a Keto Mojo meter back in the end of August, then went off keto. Ya I know, bad decision. Anyway now I'm about to start again and I hear I could have waited and bought the new one. DRAT! that sucks. Oh well nothing I can do. Question: wondering if the strips are different for the new meter?
The new strips are different, but if you have the bluetooth model, you should just be able to open the mobile app and get the upgrade offer from Keto-Mojo (basically, you buy a new batch of strips and they send you the new GK+ for free).
Call customer service. Ask them about their upgrade offer. I can't say for sure about Canada, but there's definitely a very good upgrade deal here in The States.
@@SeriousKeto Last Update lol: When I contacted Customer Service, I was given an upgrade offer, then when I mentioned shipping to Canada I was given a link to a 3rd party seller and there was no upgrade offered. At least I have the Bluetooth version and from what I've heard it's still pretty accurate.
I would be curious if there is a difference in the readings between the 2 devices. When you were doing the resistant starch testing and you changed meters, I was like "Noooo! You can't change the test equipment!" It would be like changing the scale you weigh yourself with, without noting any changes. You should check out Project Farm just to see how he does his testing. My 2¢. Thank you for your awesome content!
I did side by side comparisons afterwards (sorry they weren't in the video). The blood glucose number differed by 4 points. The ketone number was different by .1.
Hello Steve, thaks for the review, I have ordered the Mojo, I haven't done before blood ketones so I am very curious. I meant to ask you about breath ketones meter and what is your opinion/experience (reliable or not) as I have used that kind of meter but if I read the high number of ketones i have daily (I do Keto and 18:6 IF and i have readings between 1.6 and 2.7) that doesn't translate in weight loss. well.... sorry for bombing your review with this matter but i didn't know where else to post the question. have great day - Gio
I've had conversations with them about this and their test strip prices leaves very little margin. Perhaps once they get their installed base all upgraded to the GK+ and are making more strips, perhaps the price will come down (economies of scale). Who knows...
It's amazing you synced your phone so quickly - I never have been able to get my current one synced. I have the old one... how do we upgrade? I agree that it's weird that the strips are individually wrapped & no longer in the little canister... not sure I like that. Thank you for sharing this new monitor & your views on it.
I'm curious about your lancet device that you like better than the one that comes with the kit. Whats special about it? Wondering if I should get a better one
It's a sturdier pen. The one that came with my original Keto Mojo had the lancet eject button break after less than a month. I also like that their are 10 settings for the "stabby" depth on the CareTouch.
Tried to order the original ketone test strips on Amazon this morning. They are only available on Ketomojos website and apparently they are phasing them out. So if you don't have a new monitor you should get the old strips before they are discontinued. Looks like we will all have to upgrade soon.
I got one last week. I've never been diabetic so never used these but after the first few uses, it's a breeze! I haven't watched it all yet, but do you know what brands of lancets fit into the device? I'm surprised they don't sell an option to include those or buy separately. I assume you found by ripping the packs halfway down and across that's easy too.
Yes, I've become an expert at ripping open the packs (at least in my own opinion). As for lancets, I use the OneTouch UltraSoft lancets. They are sold at Costco. Also, I recommend this lancet pen -- it is far superior to the one that comes with the Keto-Mojo: amzn.to/38lM8eo
I have the older Bluetooth version. In fact... I have only recently received it. Do you think it’s worth upgrading? Now that you’ve used it a while longer...? Thanks for all you do!
Have you upgraded your meter since this video was made? Have you used a breath meter? If so, do you have any thoughts or recommendations on them? Thanks.
Do the strips it uses stop working when they are outdated? Since I'm not diabetic, perfect accuracy is not required, but my current meter uses TrueTest strips which haven't been made in years. I will need to replace my True2Go meter at some point as I'm on my last batch of 6/23/2011 EXP strips, which reads about 10 points low compared to a friend's. (He says he likes my meter better LOL!) For Ketones I'm currently using pee strips and keytone tests were in the stratosphere the last time I checked. The ability to measure keytones is a nice touch. I test only when I'm experimenting with something so I might not use it for 6 months or a year. I'll take any meter that doesn't block you from using the strips when they expire, with or without keytone capability. The tear open strips would probably be a good thing for me.
With the new packaging, the strips are individually packaged and there is a desiccant strip or spray inside each package to keep the strips dry and fresh. I'd assume, based on this new packaging that they will last a very long time. The expiration date on the ones I just got is 2 years out.
Yes, it's a bummer that you can't get strips via the pharmacy esp. for those of us on Medicare. Keto-mojo works so much better. My other monitor is varies 10 to 15 points in successive readings. Crazy!
Hi Steve! Do you still use this to monitor your ketone? I have seen you, in recent podcasts, hold your phone? up to your left bicep to monitor something? Or have I got things completely misconstrued? Also, does a person need to monitor blood glucose AND ketones while on the keto lifestyle? My husband does keto and thinks he'd like to KNOW that he's staying in a state of ketosis. We're not sure about the benefit of blood glucose monitoring. Thank you!!
I measure every morning with a Keto Mojo. I think it's important to know at a high level that I'm in ketosis. I've haven't gone out of ketosis in over a year, so may it's not all that necessary any more. Still, I like that confirmation. Measuring blood glucose, in my opinion, is VERY important - especially when trying new food (like "keto" labeled products or sweeteners). I also have a continuous glucose monitor in my upper arm. That's what the phone is reading. That's through the Levels program and has a price that puts it out of most people's price range.
I have the Bluetooth version and am very disappointed. It is very difficult to set up and the lancet does not poke deep enough even on the longest setting. Getting blood is not easy. I just opened a vile of glucose strips and there is no key card. Wish I could return.
They have a "free" upgrade to new unit (you buy the new strips that you'd be using anyway and they send you the new monitor with them). Also, I don't like their lancet pen, which is why I link to the one I use. Also, if you stab at the place between your fingernail and first knuckle, you can get by using almost the lowest setting (I use setting 2 of 10 on my CareTouch pen), you'll get a great blood draw without any pain. Also, I thought that there were only keys for the ketone strips -- not for the glucose strips.

I would like you to try the old and the new at the same time and see if the numbers match up.
Thank you! I'm prediabetic and my keto mojo was delivered via Amazon today. Your videos were much better than the teeny tiny instructions. New sub! You're a Godsend!
Been checking my blood sugar for 10 years. Started adding ketones to that 3 years ago. Never once used an alcohol pad. Ever.
I wash my hands with soap and water but if I didnt work from home I might use them.
yeah, I never have either. I think that would only matter if you didn't wash your hands or never changed your needle.
No alcohol pads for me either. Soap and hot water, clean paper towel to dry off. Unevaporated alcohol can throw your testing off.
Thanks so much for this unboxing video. I received my meter one week ago but hadn't set it up or used it because I wasn't quite sure how to do it, even after seeing a couple of videos that Keto-Mojo put out. I feel much more confident now.
It’s so much easier to set up than the previous model that their support calls went down by 95% for setup.
LOL
But Medicaid only pays for the low end glucose meters that use the vial method for strips.
Good luck with the new meter.
Really enjoy your videos .. I could swear sometimes that you sound like that radio guy that does the top ten countdown on the weekends... Of course I cant remember his name.. lol
God Bless and thank you!
ps,,, Where do I find that mini Bundt maker.. and how do I find one in a decent color ..lol
The mini Bundt maker can be found at Kohl's, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and at belk.com
When you open a new vial wrap sets of 10 in plastic wrap or tiny plastic bags to keep fresh.
@Patsy Stone Yes she was thinking Casey Casem.... I was thinking he sounded more like Shadow Stephens....Steve, you need audition for your local radio stations...
@Patsy Stone Oh my gosh .. I think you're right!! LOL
Those are some good numbers. 👍🏻
Fellow Carroll Alumni here. Just started watching your videos and was super excited when I saw your shirt!!!!
I’m a Marquette alum. The wife is a Carroll alum, and I have a child or two that go there. 🙂
@@rebeccabrown5014 Just hold it on an angle and do a shoveling motion.
@@rebeccabrown5014 I let my arm hang down at my side for 60 secs before taking a blood sugar reading. That helps. Also if you are cold might want to run your hands under warm water for a minute first.
I appreciate your review as I am in the market for a Keto Mojo. I have never purchased one and I have been doing comparisons.
I'm so glad you posted this! I have been mulling around getting one, and saw this one on their website recently. I hadn't had a chance to go back and rewatch your old keto mojo reviews to compare what is different. I watched this one and ordered this model, plus extra strips via your link. Thanks for the review!
Happy Anniversary to you & Terri! 💕
Thank you so much 😀
Happy Anniversary Steve !!!🥂🍾🎉🎊🎁🎈
Thank you.
I like to store my meter in a Mainstays 3 cup food storage box. Everything fits and is easy to keep track of.
Good idea!
Cool! Mine's supposed to arrive Friday. I've been looking forward to this since March, when I talked to them at Low Carb Denver. Good notes on the subtleties.
I got my upgrade yesterday. I agree 100% with this video. Pros and cons.
Individually wrapped strips are so they don’t expire so quickly right? I can appreciate that, but some level of reducing waste should have been on their minds.
My thoughts exactly.
@@ketomojo2144 I’ve seen those vials reused for Geocaching. Because they keep water out, the log paper inside stays dry. Geocaching.com
Plus unwrapping is a pain!
Thanks for this video Steve! You’ve been a big inspiration to me for awhile now. It’s time to take this even more seriously, order placed! I’m always looking forward to your content!
Thank you for posting. This is the best step by step I have seen.
Thanks for doing this video. I bought this unit a couple of days ago. My first one. Waiting for delivery.
How did it work for you?
Eventually I believe they will not be selling the test strips for the older model. So you will need to update.
Sweet
Should have my new meter soon, I was able to upgrade, very simple process, they reached out to me which was great✌🏻👍🏻
When I had a Zoom call with Dorian (the owner) last week, he said the goal is to get everyone who wants to be upgraded taken care of by the end of the year. They are doing this at a zero profit margin.
Just ordered my new mojo thanks for the discount!
Bob the welder and wife.
Already ordered mine. Had to order more strips. It just made sense to order the new one. Not much more with your code. Thanks
I really don’t like the individually packaged strips. They’re hard to open so I have to use a scissor and always worry about cutting the strip
I have cut into and ruined strips = very annoying :( Still overall I like the monitor.
Just ordered my new one today.
I use mine every day. 🙂
Can you tell me the discount code?
Yay for cheaper!
Totally with you on the February enigma..
I want a fridge magnet!
Did you know alcohol can effect the glucose count?
A nurse told me that.
Yeah, I want to sync my phone, but maybe I can't. I have the old one and I'm not gonna play the "upgrade game".
I don't use the bag. I made a fitted, hard-case box for it that is almost the same size as my Bullet-Journal. Better for me.
Love the glasses! 🤓
Thank you Steve for your great easy to understand review of the keto mojo
I’ve been on the fence about getting one because I’m a little technicality challenge d
The good news, I havent damaged any strips while opening them, but I did sling one across the room never to be found lol
If it were a Lego, you'd find it by stepping on it in the middle of the night. 😄
we have already updated packaging on next round of manufacture. easier to tear and instead of the dehumidifying/stiffener strip, we have added a desiccant spray coating.
I went to the Keto Mojo store a few days ago and saw the trade in option. Although, I have the Bluetooth model, I decided to trade up. Now, looking at your video, there doesn’t seem to be much difference. At least, the strips are cheaper.
I find the Bluetooth works much better and faster. Keto Mojo also tells me the error rates on the new strips are vastly improved.
**Always wipe off the first drop of blood, then do the test on the following drops.**
Kind of looks like your poke is a little low.
😄
Think I’ll stay with my Bluetooth unit. Like where my eject button it. Also, the term pre-prandial and post-prandial refers to before or after lunch or dinner. Thanks for the info! Wondering if the strip pricing has been reduced for our previous monitors as well. Or if the strips are interchangeable.
Strips are not interchangeable. They have a new vendor for the new strips, hence lower prices. The price on the old strips will stay the same.
@@SeriousKeto Do we have to send in our old keto mojo to get the new one? I want to use my current strips before buying new ones. Do you get a few strips with the new one?
@@mitsim nope. After you get the new one, you send in the old one.
@@SeriousKeto thanks so much for the info!
@@mitsim you do have 30 days to use old meter strips up. I just read that today as I ordered my upgrade.
Great video! Thank you.
I was skeptical of ketomojo about taking the old GKI bundle from the website but the upgrade offer is really great, thank you keto mojo and thank you serious keto!
Your feelings will change when you see the upgrade offer they are rolling out.
@@SeriousKeto I really hope you are right, I love the meter! Also great review love your content!
I think that KM didn't want me to disclose the details of the upgrade because they didn't want a big surge all at once. They estimate that 28K people are going to upgrade (based on active users of the app) and they have about half that amount in stock. But more is on the way and KM is hoping to have everyone upgraded before year end.
@@SeriousKeto that sounds very reasonable, I will keep an eye out for an upgrade email/notification from the app.
@@SeriousKeto ^^^^^This is correct, our shipping company can not handle that volume with social distancing. Nor can our manufacturing in one go. Regular users of our older meter testing on the app will receive an upgrade invite and we will phase it over time to balance ship time and inventory.
Thanks for the video and the discount.
Love your skip ad shirt
Thank you for the review, I just purchased from your link.
Looks like a great upgrade. I'd love to see a zip pouch in the case to hold all of my lancets. I'd rather keep them in something like that rather than in a ziplock. The Precision Xtra has this and I love it.
Thanks for the review. I have the older non Bluetooth model. I would like to trade it in once I’m out of strips, glad they’re offering the option.
The first thing they are doing is contacting the Bluetooth users via the mobile app. If you find that you are getting low on strips, you can contact them directly through their customer service page to get the details on the upgrade.
Steve, I never knew there was a thumb switch.🙄
Also of interest - When I met my husband in 1995, I had had my Volkswagen Jetta for 10 years. He jumped in and hit the sunroof. It opened all the way back instead of the two inches up. 🙄
And then, 10 more years into having my Toyota Camry, I found the sunglasses holder over the dome light.🙄
THANKS, STEEEVE!😁👍
💃🏻💞
Thanks for the Video Steve.
I was very happy with the current version and the strip packaging so I’m not terribly enthusiastic about a new device. I did go ahead and upgrade this morning and it was $77.01 if anyone is wondering what that runs.
As I understand it, the "upgrade" is just to purchase the new strips and then you get the monitor. So if you're consuming strips, the cost to upgrade is what you would pay just in the course of buying strips that you'd be using anyway. Is this not the case?
@@SeriousKeto I think you are correct, that was the upgrade price for60 of each strip and the monitor.
I’ve had mine since February (I’m in Europe) and haven’t damaged any test strips while opening them. I usually open them up carefully before I swap with alcohol or prick my finger making the whole test easier.
There's definitely a sequence that makes most sense -- and that's the way you're doing it.
@@SeriousKeto worked this way out through trial and error and it’s the least frustrating and no blood is spilled :)
Opening the wrapped strips correctly should allow you to load it without ever touching it, this should help with contaminants.
It would be really helpful if u did 3 ketone tests in a row. I've heard of ppl getting unreliable readings on the new monitor
I just did a reading with my old meter and the new meter and they were not the same.
My old meter is less than 4 months old.
I did use my left and right index fingers so could that make a difference ?
I will do another test tonight and use blood from the same finger using both meters to see what the results are.
@@michaeloglesby7866 thank you for sharing that!!! I appreciate it a lot!
I got the upgrade offer last Friday.
Love your t shirts. U r a very cool grandpa 😉
I put the stingthing beside the Ketomojo. This way nothing pushes the button.
I think I got that because I'm part of their ambassador program.
"Stabby pen" I giggled.
Better lancet, less painful IMO: One Touch Delica Plus Lancets. 33G instead of 30G and you can feel the difference.
Love the Delica Plus - helps when you test multiple times a day.
Me too!👍
I just received my first Keto Mojo a couple of days ago.
In the U.K. this is called GKI. The glucose units are in mmol/L and I think the keto units are the same.
They are.
@@yvonnereyes7141 They did I and I did upgrade once I ran out of strips.

I received a "free" pouch of macadamia vanilla nut butter in my last order of Perfect Keto stuff. Hadn't really figured out what to use it for. Last night I put some in my desert protein shake. Damn yummy.
It also works in my pound cake recipe.
Reluctant to try this new one. Could NEVER get my old keto mojo to work and they flat out didn’t care. Said there was no return because it comes in contact with blood. Sure but I paid over $100 for it. Terrible service.
Do you have a copy of any email exchange you had with them?
Soap and water cleansing is adequate for fingerstick testing. Avoid the added cost of alcohol wipes.
and watch the temp of the water you use. If it is too cold, you will have difficulty getting enough blood for a sample.
It’s a pretty sweet upgrade deal.
I got the GK+ reluctantly because I had the old Keto Mojo, and they've discontinued the strips for it. Kind of a bummer. I'm a BIFL type guy.
So I had just bought a Keto-Mojo Shipped to me on Sept 29, was the onel ike your old one and I love it. Then I went to order more strips and was not sure on what strips to order b/c they make that confusing. So I emailed them and this is what they said:
They said that the Brand new machine I got like your yours with grey button was going to not have strips to order for it soon so they are doing a upgrade for everyone to the one you got.
I'm not sure I understand your question. Tell me why/how you are fasting and I might be able to answer.
It’s a pretty sweet deal.

Perfect, thank you
The individual packing prevents the (?)oxidation and degradation of the rest of the strips each time you open the container. Leads to more consistent readings and reduces wasting of strips.
True. And I’ve gotten a lot better at opening the packets.
As a nurse, maybe I will not use "stabby pen" with patients, but I love it.
Some hornery patients might require the “stabby pen” 😂
Not sure how you feel about the individual strips, but you have individual alcohol pads? Get a bottle of alcohol and big pack of cotton balls?
What's your 3-month update on the individually wrapped strips?
I’ve had zero defective strips. I used to get a couple per container. Also, I’ve gotten great at ripping open the packets.
Thank you!! Very helpful!!
Thanks for the review Steve! Your reviews are very thorough and honest and I appreciate that about you. I also love that you were not diabetic but continue to check your blood glucose and Keytone’s. I have a non-Bluetooth keto mojo. Are the strips compatible with the new one?
No. So you will want to use up your old strips and contact keto-mojo via their customer service page.
@@SeriousKeto No such luck. Just broke it out of the box 1st time. Signed up. Nada. Guess we Canadians don't rate once again. 😢
Those are some good readings. However, I'm just a cook and a human guinea pig. I don't know enough to advise you on weight loss.
Just ordered one - thanks for the discount. Could you offer an ongoing discount on test strips? (Yes, I am cheap)
I've had conversations with them about this and their test strip prices leaves very little margin. Perhaps once they get their installed base all upgraded to the GK+ and are making more strips, perhaps the price will come down (economies of scale). Who knows...
Thanks! I just ordered one.
Hope you enjoy it!
It's amazing you synced your phone so quickly - I never have been able to get my current one synced. I have the old one... how do we upgrade? I agree that it's weird that the strips are individually wrapped & no longer in the little canister... not sure I like that. Thank you for sharing this new monitor & your views on it.
If you use the mobile app, you should get an invite to upgrade within the next week or two.
Thanks for the info....been looking at the Keto Mojo for sometime. Bet my insurance co don't cover it though...
Well, the good thing is that the upgrade that KM will be offering is a very generous deal.
Also, I recommend this lancet pen -- it is far superior to the one that comes with the Keto-Mojo:

I have the older Bluetooth version. In fact... I have only recently received it.
Do you think it’s worth upgrading? Now that you’ve used it a while longer...?
Thanks for all you do!
Once you get low on your current strips, I’d recommend upgrading.
Steve, in your opinion, what do you think are the optimal ketone and GKI numbers for weight loss? Thank you.
I would personally shoot for a GKI of 3.0 or lower.
Have you upgraded your meter since this video was made? Have you used a breath meter? If so, do you have any thoughts or recommendations on them? Thanks.
I just started using a Lumen. It will be at least a month until I have a review.
I’ve been watching a bunch of your videos and I’d really love to order a GK+ but keto mojo don’t ship to Australia 😩
The different food and medical regulatory agencies in different countries make it very difficult for companies to be global, unfortunately.
@@SeriousKeto Perfect! As long as it doesn't reject old strips.
Yes, it's a bummer that you can't get strips via the pharmacy esp. for those of us on Medicare. Keto-mojo works so much better. My other monitor is varies 10 to 15 points in successive readings. Crazy!
I agree
Turn the meter around in the case, so that the back of it hits the pen.
What is the main purpose behind your lengthy extended fast and what do you consume during that fast, just water??
I discuss that here:

To get out the strips, don't tear up the packet in half. Do it on the side. You'll be able to see the markings.
