    I'm a black teacher and I would NEVER put a child on the spot like that. She should have NEVER let her personal bias or opinion enter into a situation where you publicly embarrass a child. I'm so sorry the twins had to go through that. Being transparent here, I admit, I had a different opinion about interracial adoptions but watching your family completely changed my opinion. I LOVE how you LOVE on your black children AND make it your mission to nurture and expose them to their culture. Thank you for helping me grow. That said, even when I do have an opinion about a topic I would NEVER bring that into my classroom. I always make a conscious effort to teach facts, not opinions and to teach with empathy and compassion.

      I have had 5 teachers who truly touched my heart, 3 of them were black. I'm hispanic, just like there is racism in every race/culture there is also kindness. I still remember their names, faces and words and these 3 black individuals changed my life for the better. I'm 30 now and I swear to you I will always be grateful for them and I am sure there are kids who feel and will feel the same way about you even if they are a different skin tone ❤

    As a retired teacher, these type of assignments of wanting to know a child’s background inappropriate in this day and age with so many diverse families. I’m sorry about what your twins experienced. Continue to love on them.

    • @MultiKswift
      @MultiKswift 9 місяців тому +12

      I don’t know that they are automatically inappropriate, so long as the teacher explains that students can do their biological family, adoptive family, foster family, step family or multiple of the above. Or if they really don’t want to do any of that offer an alternative project. Not the same but in a psych class we did projects about fictional characters’s neurodivergence. So maybe they could do it on a fictional character and their family.

      I agree with you. It can do more harm with kids bringing up how both parents are in jail or complications with one parent or another. The fact that the other kids picked up on the ignorance and was so bothered by it that they told their parents speaks volumes. That teacher is a B and don’t need to be in a classroom. She knew exactly what she was doing and I’ll bet my last dollar she knew they were adopted from the very beginning and if she didn’t, she should have known when Ace said Italy and Philippines. A 6th grade teacher that can’t put 2 and 2 together smh😡😡 don’t even get me started on what she said to Avaya 🤦🏽‍♀️ you have a beautiful family surrounded by so much love and that’s all that matters.

    This is such a sad story and I really feel for Ace and Avaya. So mature and vulnerable of Avaya to speak to the teacher to explain ahead of class that she is adopted, you must be so proud. And it is so upsetting to hear that in spite of her sound that, the teacher still went ahead and humiliated her like that in the way she did Ace. Saying he is African American is never enough… he has no idea where his family came. Hi! Long time supporter here. Just wanted to say that I’m so sorry that has happened to your children. As a black educator I would never allow that behavior from anyone in my classroom, teacher or student. Bullying of any form is wrong. I get your frustration, (1000%) however, this can be a learning experience for you as well. Saying you are no longer going to request black teachers/coaches/mentors etc can seem a bit counter productive considering you still do have black children that you are raising. To each their own but if we as a society let isolated incidents hinder our willingness to learn then we’d be nowhere. Again, I totally get your frustration (your story had me in tears). Sadly, we live in a world where not everyone is accepting and we shouldn’t assume that based off of race there would be an instant connection. It goes for every race.

    • @l.c7240
      @l.c7240 9 місяців тому +1

      It’s not counter productive when this incident and the others she encountered prove that their own kind( black) can be just as damaging to them mentally as any other race of people. Sadly they are better off where they are loved and that doesn’t include all black people. This will teach her children that regardless of the person has their skin color or not doesn’t guarantee that they will be an asset to them.

    Hi Christy,
    I had to comment about your video and this situation. What the middle school teacher said to your twins was very unacceptable! That teacher obviously didn’t think our consider your children’s feelings. Speaking as a Caucasian teacher myself and a foster mom of an African American little girl, I would feel the same as you and your husband if a teacher said the same to her. I am so sorry that your family still experiences this. Thank you for this video and for giving advice for me on how to handle this when it happens, because I’m sure it will, to my foster daughter. We as parents and foster parents need to stand up for our babies. I love your channel and your beautiful family!
    Carrie ❤

    I hate your babies went through this and the ignorance in this world. I’m so happy they recognized it for what it was, and stayed respectful and told their parents. It sad to say it may not be the last time. I love how you handled it and as well as them, which is a testament to their parents. ❤❤❤Which this world was a better place for all our children.

    "People's character is different no matter what they look like." As a Black parent, of my biological Black children, I learned this lesson the hard way too. Some people just have issues and there is no loyalty anymore. We have been taught to compete, or people have their jealousies, or opinions. All we can do is what you did. Build them up and teach them to look within themselves.

    First off bless you for becoming a mama to these kids! I went no contact with my abusers when I turned 23. My mother-in-law and father-in-law took me on as their daughter and women and men in our community have as well. I think they know I’m an orphan. It is very hard for me to carry children and I’ve had people even ask I bet your mom is excited to be a grandma or have another grandchild. I point blank say I have a mom, but she’s my abuser and she is not allowed in my children’s life and they say oh that’s so sad for them that they don’t get to experience their grandchildren.

    Heartbreaking. That teacher had no right to say those things. HIGHLY inappropriate. These types of things keep happening all around public schools unfortunately. Just because they have the same skin, doesnt mean they automatically care about your children sadly. This is why i am fortunate to have gone to a private school with so much diversity and teachers who care. Not sure that a private school is a fit for you, but that environment might be better for your kids in the long run.

    I have two cousins that are adopted. Erin always tells people yes am adopted, but am loved more than most I was chosen from the heart. What is crazy is Erin is adopted from outside of the family and looks so much like her adopted dad its so crazy. Garret is adopted within the family and looks nothing like anyone. Just shows its not all about blood. YOU HAVE A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY!
