Mamamoo had me from the first time I heard HIP. For years I refused to listen to kpop because all snippets I heard seemed to bubble gum pop. However, one day I heard a clip of HIP and looked it up. OMG!!! I was in love. Since then there are only a few groups that I have completely fallen in love with, and they are Exo, Mamamoo, KARD, and The Rose. I just love the more mature vibe of these groups and vocals, especially the Kings and Queens of vocals, Exo and Mamamoo. Another thing I like about Mamamoo is Moonbyuls rap and persona. To me she dosen't change who she is when she is onstage. Sometimes female rappers seem as though they are just playing a role when they are on stage. The way they talk, walk, sit, or dance is a complete change from how they are off stage. Moonbyul to me is different. She's basically the same on or off stage.
Haha I also denied kpop for many years, before I checked out Exo and Shinee 😌 Then I went lost and just abandoned all other music basically 😄 Oh Moonbyul seems like that type of person! Can't wait to see more from her 😍
Baek Ji Young is a famous singer. She hasn't done any acting as far as I know other than a cameo as herself in Secret Garden but she's sung a ton of OSTs for kdramas. Solar was 23 when they debuted. Wheein and Hwasa were still teens. It was refreshing to hear your feminist take on Piano Man. Had to chuckle because your reaction was so different than mine though we were both thinking about the sexual politics implied in the MV. When I first checked out kpop in 2016 my impression of girl groups was that kpop had a serious Lolita problem. After watching a few MVs and disliking the bubblegum pop style and feeling a bit offended by how the young female idols were presented I stumbled across Piano Man, which seemed enormously more adult and sophisticated than anything I'd seen or heard up til then. The current state of sexual politics in S Korea often reminds me of the US in the 60's (I'm old). eSNa is a singer/songwriter who wrote and composed Ahh Oop! She wanted Ahh Oop! to be her debut single with RBW but they talked her into doing it as a collab with Mamamoo. eSNa co-wrote music and/or lyrics for several early MMM songs including Piano Man. Watch the Um Oh Ah Yeah video as many times as it takes to answer some of the obvious questions it raises, such as: Why do three members cross dress in the MV for a song about a woman taking the initiative in starting a relationship with a guy? Why does Solar play a French maid, a 'coffee, tea or me' stewardess (definitely not a flight attendant) and a hot to trot night nurse? What's up with the drink drugging and all the sexual harassment and attempted assault by Solar and Hwasa? Why are the dance scenes set in a public men's room and a barber shop? Hint: exclusively male spaces. Looking forward to the next installment in the series.
Oh, then where do I recognise her from, she's really familiar with the look on her face that she had here 🤔 Maybe I'll find out someday 😅 Oh, how was your reaction to Pianoman? My thoughts have been the same as yours with the little I've seen from gg, I couldn't really watch it.. So I'm happy to meet these women ❤️ I'll definitely watch that MV many times! (And not just because of Moonbyul..) I want to understand the meaning of everything. Thank you for your input and following my journey!
@@2J-Reacts I looked up Baek Ji Young on wikipedia and noticed she made a cameo appearance as herself in Secret Garden, which I had forgotten tho it's one of my favorite kdramas. I love jazz so the swing style of Piano Man appealed to me. I liked the song a lot and was intrigued by the group. Mamamoo saved kpop for me just when I was ready to give up on it, tho I'm still super picky about the songs and artists I listen to. Fortunately kpop and other music by Korean women isn't just bubblegum pop by cute concept girl groups. Other than Mamamoo I tend to listen to solo artists rather than girl groups. If you're looking for recommendations I'd suggest singer/songwriters Lee Jinah, Cacophony, Motte, and IU, the universally beloved crown princess of kpop who you've probably seen in kdramas like Hotel del Luna and My Mister. If you like rock I'd recommend Se So Neon, a trio led by a female guitarist/singer/songwriter, and if hip hop is more your style check out Yoon Mirae. But my personal favorite non-Mamamoo songs by Korean women are the few recordings made by the girl group The Ark, their spin off subunit duo Khan, and the solos by The Ark/Khan members Jeon Minju and Euna Kim before they debuted in The Ark. The Ark's only single The Light has an MV based on a story about the Sewol Ferry tragedy. Khan's only single is a lesbian r&b song called I'm Your Girl? Jeon Minju's pre-debut single Goodbye Rain features Euna Kim and Euna Kim's pre-debut single Without You Now features k-hip hop legends Yoon Mirae, Tiger JK and Bizzy. Love all those songs and listen to them regularly.
@kudgeond755 I understand what you mean, I have basically stayed away from gg because of their bubblegum pop-style, but I kinda knew that MMM and a few other groups could be different. I have heard some songs with Mirae! I don't remember which ones now, but she seems to hang out with other rappers that I like so I should check her out more. Thank you for the advice! I also want to know more about Bibi.. she's really my type of woman I think from what I've seen 😏
@@2J-Reacts Bibi is definitely your kinda woman. I didn't mention her because I don't listen to her as much as the others and the list was already getting long. Yoon Mirae had a hip hop group with her husband Tiger JK called MFBTY, tho I prefer her solo songs like Baby Bye Bye, Kawi Bawi Bo and Black Happiness.
What makes this group totally special apart from the talent, are their personalities since they are adult women who do not present themselves as teenage girls but as women who are aware of their age and sexuality but at the same time do not take themselves very seriously and like to have fun and have a good time, that's why there are a number of songs and videos that are simply for laughter, the rest is completely serious as an adult. You should know that Mamamoo has ships between all combinations of its members with quite a lot of content of each one because they love to flirt with each other, mainly on stage. Each ship has its own vibes but the main ship is Moonsun (Solar and Byul), I'm not someone who becomes obsessive with shipping people but seriously the story and the relationship between these two makes you doubt if they are really just friends . Regardless of what kind of relationship exists between them, it has always been said that in mamamoo there are two pairs of soul mates Moonbyul and Solar, and Wheein and Hwasa.
Yes, it's really their personalities and charm along with talent that made me fall completely, and I've just started to get to know them, it didn't take much! I'm not surprised they have ships 😅 I think I'll end up reacting to compilations about them after getting to know them more 😏
Idk if you know now but just in case, Esna actually wrote the song "Ahh oop", for her in the first place, but then she kinda had to do it with Mamamoo and finally she got kicked out of her own song by RBW if I remember correctly but I'm not sure. She explains evverything in a video (she speaks english in it), so if you're interesting you can search for it on youtube😉 Also she is still refering Mamamoo as her babies and saw Hwasa not long ago, so I guess they're in good terms ;)
All great songs but every song they do is great because it is mamamoo. Um oh ah yeh is the one that set them to their current status, they almost disbanded before that. Solar also wrote the song. You should find live versions of all of these. Plus Mr Ambiguous, Piano Man, Um oh ah yeh and Ahh oop were all redone in 2021 as part of their online live steam concert and album. Um oh oh yeh also has am acapella version which is totally great, there is a beat box provided by one of the members of vromance and the 4 of them singing it in the style of pentatonix.
omg your reactions are so good...😍 shall I tell you some news? you just entered a world of no return!🤭💚 like moomoo I tell you that after you find them there is no turning back!🤭 WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF MAMAMOO💚✨
When Mr. Ememoh came out, Hwasa was still 18, Wheein had just turned 19, but all four had gone through three _years_ of voice training by that point, meaning Hwasa and Wheein had been training since 15. Edit #1: Fun fact... Hyuna has been in the business 7 years longer than Solar, but Solar is one year *older* than Hyuna. Edit #2: (Not done yet) They picked male names for themselves for Um Oh Ah Yeh. Byul was "Yul". And a photographer (we don't know who) snapped a picture of Solar kissing Yul on a park bench. They played it off as if it was going to be a promotion for UOAY, but it's not a professional photo, so the explanation comes off hollow.

He called in favours to have them in the M/V The Prank played on them... their Faces are priceless. In fact “Mr. Ambiguous” features some of K-Pop’s hottest stars, including Wheesung, K.Will, Rhymer, Bumkey, Jung Joon Young, and CNBLUE’s Lee Jong Hyun.
It might be a bit early for me to say this, but don't forget to check out Moonbyul's performances from the Second World competition, they fall outside of the discography but I can't recommend them highly enough.
Yes, but I wanted to wait with those a bit (I said it in the intro) because I wanted to start with their own songs since I saw those were collabs. But I'll check them out too!
