I am 73 years old, I just retired, and I have had only 1 lesson. I started cello from scratch this Feb. I can only hope that before I die, I can play as well as you. That was magnificent! Thank you so much for making this video, it is an inspiration to those of us trying to learn the cello. Your playing was wonderful!
This is so inspiring to hear. I'm 18 years old and I play the cello and finished all my grades in both of them. I teach 13+ students the violin online and hearing this from an older person is so inspiring. You've got this!
i’ve been playing for almost exactly three years, and i’m learning this piece right now! a fun coincidence :) thank you for posting, as someone who also got a “late” start on cello it’s always inspiring to see i’m not alone.
If this is how you were after 3 years I bet you're outstanding now! Wow is this gorgeous! I didn't sound this good until I'd played for far longer. I've got to say that adults often progress way faster than children when learning. Hope that seeing your video and hearing these words encourages some people out there thinking of starting or currently learning an instrument but doubting themselves.
This brought me to tears. What a beautiful performance. Thank you so much for sharing this, as someone who is in their 12th month of learning the cello, I find this so incredibly inspiring. You play so beautifully, and expressively. Truly enjoyable to listen to. Thank you
When you consider that most players get nowhere hear this standard even after five years or more, this is great playing. As this was six years ago I assume that you are even better now.
I had to listen to this 3 times in a row, brought me to tears each time....I am speechless. I am a 52 year old beginning cellist and I hope to play as beautifully as you some day!
A wonderful piece, and you played it beautifully. I can feel your love for the music and for the cello. This is a great inspiration for me. I'm 54 now and playing the cello since two weeks.
NoviceCellist Same... finishing up Suzuki book one in a week or so- and there’ll be a ginormous spicy margarita ready to kick off the celebration after, lol- right as I turn 49. : ) Luck to us both...
BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!! Dominik, I've gone back to listen at least 3x now...and each time I am swept away with the beauty and the love you clearly have for the piece and the cello. I've decided...I MUST LEARN THIS PIECE!!!! Thank you so much for sharing it with us all!
Oh wow...Three years? Please tell me you are still playing, you're so good! I started just before my 51st b-day and I'm 6 months into my cello journey. When I played a few notes in second position of a simple hymn I was HIGH for the rest of the day! Obviously I need to up my game and get a good instructor. Thank you for sharing, you are an inspiration!
Unbelievable! Incredibly beautiful I shed a tear listening to you play. I am saving up money to buy a cello. I’m 45 years old but I won’t let that stop me. Thank you for uploading this beautiful video.
That is very impressive! I play violin since age of 8 (I am now 50) and I played this piece as well, and I know it is very hard intonation-wise. So that you can pull it off after only playing for 3 years is a major accomplishment!
Bravo! You play so expressively, I cannot believe you are only 3 years in. I am going to start learning cello as an adult beginner as soon as our covid19 lockdown is over.....
I find this piece absolutely beautiful! You're an inspiration because I'm in my 3rd month of cello and loving it. I hope to sound like this one day, thank you!
Wow very nice!! You're definitely an inspiration :) I've been learning as an adult for a bit more than 2½ years, and I'm probably near your level (I've been piano trained for many years before), and intonation is one of my biggest challenges of course.. Yours is already great! And you have a really nice vibrato and expression, keep up the great work, looking forward to more videos!
I am Learning to play the cello alone so again thank you for this video as it will help me greatly. I love this piece. I also love Debussy's "Clair de lune" so if you ever play it I would love to watch you!
I started playing the Cello one year ago and i hope that I can play this piece in 10 years. 🤷🏻♀️😅 My progress isnt very fast and im still learning the first position. I hope I can play such beautiful some day...
Hey there, it´s actually already 6 years now... I know, I wanted to post a new video long time ago, but I always felt I was stuck and didn´t make any progress. Got a new teacher though and I hope I´ll improve faster now. Thanks for your interest! :)
@@dominikmorgenroth9468 wow, exciting to get your reply. It's already inspiraing to know you are still making progress, as a adult learner myself for 2 yrs, i definitly can imagine the possible bottleneck you could be hitting as harder it gets, less noticable progress as return. and congrats on passing 6 year mark and look forward your next progress update. we all stay tuned!

thank you for this video :) i'm starting the cello in september and am a little bit nervous because it seems difficult, but I need a second instrument if I want to study music (I have 3 years to learn the Cello), so I'll practice hard :) you play really beautiful! It's so touching :) Keep it up :D
Good luck! It's not as hard as you would think. When I first started playing, I was like "how am I ever gonna be able to learn all these notes and use vibrato and sound good," but once you've got the basics, it's not hard to learn from there.
woww! congratulations! you played so beautifully. How can I get such a nice intonation? For me you were 90 % in tune. Please, tell me your practice secrets.. :)
Hi Leandro, sorry for the late reply, I was on vacations. Thanks for your nice words! Here´s some of the things I find useful to improve my intonation: 1. Sing/hum along or try to sing the next note in the melody before actually playing it. You need a clear vision of the note you want to play instead of "fishing" for the right note. I found this advice in a video by Eddie Chen, who has a lot of violin-videos here on yt that mostly do apply on the cello as well. 2. Play with a piano playalong. I found this particular one here www.midiworld.com/rachmaninov.htm - this is a midi file that I put in my DAW and triggered a piano-VST with it. Also, there´s score-editions that come with a playalong-cd - I always try to have some playalong to practice to (not exclusively though). 3. Record yourself - doesn´t need to be a hi-end-mic, a mobile will do. It´s just that many things sound totally different while playing. I often think "wow, that was a really good take" and then I listen to it and find many mistakes (which I can then adress, that´s the whole point). Sometimes it´s even the other way round, like when I play and think "nah" but then listen to it and it´s sounds much better than I thought. So, this is my advice, hope it helps. Cheers, Dominik
Amy Ahearne I usually practice 5-10 hours per week, but sometimes I practice up to 20 if time is at hand. The cello is not my first instrument, I ve been a musician for more than 20ys before (mostly guitar, a little keyboard). The guitar and the cello have surprisingly little in common though. Of course it helps as I didnt have to learn rhythm, music reading, theory etc. The cello is still very challenging for me and I practiced months for this particular piece. Thanks ans cheers, Dominik
Dominik Morgenroth Thank you for your response! You are a wonderful musician. I salute all your hard work; your work on this piece pays off in this beautifully expressed rendition - the sound is immaculate! 🙌
Iris Gapundu thanks, but I ve been playing the guitar for many years so maybe I m faster than total beginners. So please, don t be discouraged but inspired! ;) Cheers, Dominik
Thanks! I ve been playing the guitar since I was a kid so I had a lot musical knowledge to build on. I m still struggling with intonation every day though, it drives me crazy sometimes. For me it helps to sing along, to record myself and to practice the pieces with piano playalongs. Cheers!
