Best death metal album I’ve heard in a while. Been friends with the guitarist and vocalist for a minute.. they work hard and deserve their credit

@@HarveyJackson1967 idk about other genres but the crop of new metal releases has been absolutely incredible. there's been great traditional metal (savage oath, armagh, acero letal, mean mistreater, heavy sentence), great death metal (molten, civerous, coffins, horrifying, convulsing, chainsword, anatomia/eternal rot, downwinder, archmage, drowned), great black metal (verwoed, necroracle, aberration, endless loss, keres, misotheist, hulder, nachash, hasturian vigil), great doom metal (coffin storm, early moods, friends of hell, lucifer, mastiff), and even great thrash (dissimulator, boundless chaos, critical defiance, morghuul, sovereign, devastator, stress angel), and that isn't even accounting for all the atmoblack, post-black, and power metal that isn't as much my thing

I just listened to the whole album, I'm amazed to say this about a metal album, it's surprisingly soothing. Very beautiful.
It really does have a surprising beauty to it. If you haven't heard it before, Discarnate Ails by Haunter also hits with similar energy. Also got an 8 from Fantano when it dropped in 2022 if that gives you any extra confidence in checking it out.

Death metal isn't normally my cup of tea but I have to admit this held my attention more than usual. The melodic and noisy elements really help it for me as someone more into basic bitch metal.

Yooo Derek Rydquist is a beast, his earlier work with The Taste of Blood also went hard. Santa Cruz pumps out the some best players in death metal.

Album closer 'Geryon (The Plummet) is hands down one of the best metal tracks so far this year, bar none.. 🤘 The rest of the album is not quite on the same level, but still easily a 8 out of 10 album for me overall.. 🤗 Cool review. 👍
