Would You Date Someone Less Educated Than You? | Tell My Story

- It’s certainly easier to make assumptions about people than it is to spend time getting to know someone. We wanted to put assumptions to the test to see what we're missing out on because we're so busy assuming we already "know" a person. Join us as we discover why you should never judge a book by it’s cover in our series 'Tell My Story, Blind Date.'
We are all conditioned with certain biases. In this experiment, we challenged these biases by asking people to guess their partner's interests and past experiences based only on their partner's appearance. When they learned their partner's real answers, they were shocked by how wrong they were.
Now tell YOUR story. What do people assume about you?

I would date someone less educated but not someone significantly more stupid.
Lormenkal you’re right!
exactly!
Difference between having education and being intelligent someone could be less educated but very intelligent
I know a lot of people who aren't super educated but are so much more intelligent then people who are. But usually the intelligent people who didn't get educated are either motivated in some other area that doesn't require education (like sport for example), or lazy
Exactly

Yes and my husband is less educated than me. But in no way would I say he is less intelligent than me.
Intelligence is different than being educated.
Thank you
@Patrick Parcivel Learned nothing??? You must be fooling around in college......
@Patrick Parcivel then whyd u go in if u werent a stem major? Seems like maybe u wasted ur own time?
@Digby Dooright There are people who spend hours upon hours in libraries around the world attaining the same characteristic that you speak of. What you should be worried about is whether the individual has that ambition and initiative to do so.
Amen to that. Education degree doesn't automatically make you a smart passionate person with real life Goals
I've met some PhDs who were shockingly stupid outside their field of study.

So.. True :) I got a masters, yet I find it harder to function in the work place, but I def do well in school environment.

@@aryanchauhan588 umm.....so?
@@aryanchauhan588 okay. Don't take what I said as rude plz...I was kinda just joking.
I am 31: poor, lonely, and sick.
Despite learning a lot, I always struggled in school. I barely passed high school. Where I live you need a college diploma to get a somewhat “good” job. Since I grew up in poor household, I needed to work my ass off to get enough money to enrol for a college. With 23 I did that.
Like in school despite learning a lot I didn’t wrote good enough graded to finish my degree. I even changed three times my major. Nothing worked. At 29 I left college with no degree or money. The only job I could find was as a clerk at a fast-food chain.
People judge me for my experience negatively - especially in the context of dating. I tried everything: dating apps, approaching women, single meetups. Every woman rejected me. And off course not one single woman ever showed interested in me. They told me “I am lazy ass”.
That’s the worst part. People will judge you over something you had no control over. I worked my ass off and I still do. But its hard to get judged negatively for something I had no or little control over.
Why you racist assholes pair White MAN with Asian woman - why not Asian man with White woman ?? You all are promoting YELLOW FEVER and emasculation of Asian men. This is not only racist but also sexist. Yet you have no problem paring a Black man with a White.
Can I just say how refreshing it is to hear somebody say "I didn't need a college degree to succeed, but some people might"? Nothing irritates me quite as much when people talk in absolutes- either "college is a waste of money", or "I wouldn't date somebody without a college degree". How hard is it to realize that circumstances are going to vary from person to person? Good for you, man. That's open-mindedness right there.
Araxie Rose, exactly. How many people do we all know who lack a degree yet make more than someone with one. It's a case by case basis and a degree doesn't make someone more or less intelligent !!
She is Asian, give her some credit, she was brainwashed that its either college and uni or MC Donalds for life lol...
Araxie Rose I wouldn’t date someone without a degree
👌😜😍😃
It is super refreshing. Lots of people without degrees but make an excellent living. Education shouldn't define a person
I was clutching my pearls for the last question after they discussed the whole education thing. I'm so glad she wasn't closed-minded because of his educational background. He seems like a genuinely nice person.

Highly doubt it will go anywhere. She's 22, went to USC, chances are she is going to have an education preference for a S/O.
Less educated doesn’t mean stupid or incapable of change, there are less educated who are much more financial successful than those who have attained further degrees in their education
Facts of life!
Sutekina Ojiisan Rich Dad , Poor Dad
Much more successful financially, or socially, athletically, romantically, in arts and crafts, etc....indeed, there are many different ways to shine, so to speak. and academics isn't the only thing out there one can excel at. There are also things that need to be done for society yet don't require lots of brains. I appreciate the people who drive the garbage trucks and clean public bathrooms so that this country can be nice to live in. If everyone decided to be professors or simply study theoretical stuff for a living, life in America would be significantly less pleasant.
Lili Cohen you are such a kind soul❤️ and you are right on this too:) God bless you!
@@factisfact9426 Thanks for the compliment there. And yes, I actually do think that American society would collapse if everyone had an IQ above 120. Those who are very academically inclined have valuable talents but still suck at many things that other people are good at. That is why diversity exists. Unfortunately, due to this long-standing idea that not going to college means you'll be loser, there is an actual shortage of workers in certain occupations that require nothing more than apprenticeships or vocational school. Schoolchildren have been brainwashed for decades into thinking that bluecollar jobs are only for losers. It's kind of ironic, though, because it is extremely common for people with college degrees to be working in retail. All of the baristas who work at my neighborhood Starbucks have degrees in liberal arts and they are suffering! Many degrees are useless now, not just for work, but even for making you smarter. So much of the content has been watered down in the less selective American colleges. So yes, I do respect people who clean the bathrooms WAY more than many "academics" out there, especially those who are teaching bogus courses in some weird subject area. As for the janitors, they are actually doing something that benefits society directly. Someone who gets paid to lecture students on arcane gender theories in medieval France is not really helping much usually. The students will also likely have tons of debt that they'll never be able to pay off. And the only job they'll be able to find is at Starbucks or something else that doesn't require a university degree.
Less educated does not necessarily mean “stupid”.
Definitely yes
To women, it does.
@@2livenoob no lol
agreed
Less education doesn't mean 'stupid'. I agree. The problem is that one should never underestimate the power of the male ego. Many men have trouble dating women with more education. In the beginning they say it is fine, then they come up with excuses for why the didn't finish college. I can tell when someone has a college education just by their conversation alone. I've dated men with less education, it has never been a good idea.
Its mind bottling the amount of people that don't know or understand the difference between education and intelligence

Would I date someone less educated than me? of course I would.
There are many different types of intelligence, academic intelligence is just one of them. If a girl has a passion for, say art. She doesn't need to be educated to be an artist.
Being a nice, genuine person. Making me happy, being happy together, is much more important than being educated.
Lord Chumpington your comment has made my day.
I totally agree with what you said :). Being happy together is the most important thing !
I wouldn't, however ,say that : passion for art isn't entwined also with academic inteligence and that you do have to be educated to be an artist! I speak this as an M.A in Visual Arts, even though the arts don't require logical-mathematic intelligence ( 1 of the 7 types) it does require visual and spatial intelligence , both of wich also have their space for academic production and require education to develop. I get the point you made, I just think you were unhappy with the example. In the end though it's just as you said "Beeing nice and genuine " is the key ! ^^
Lord Chumpington yeah, MAN, I agree at some points but... I'm gonna get an education close to math (i live in Russia, we have really complicated names for barchelor degrees) & i would never date someone who doesn't know how to make money. I am a girl and want a wealthy family not a special snowflake. There would be times when I wont be able to make money. U see, the other problem is that loving art is not hard at all. So I'd rather date someone ambicious and serious about life rather than someone so irresponsible. Also, we have free education and it's really good, so not having a degree would be considered as a total laziness. So I would only marry someone with a good degree. Also I'm not that stupid and well read, have taste im music and movies. So my main focus in people is brain. But I would totaly do a one night stand with someone stupid and pretty.
Sorry for mistakes

Tamanna Yasmin yes it does
@Iakovos Yes, but unless you're Aristotle or Socrates, who has the time and discipline to independently "read thick books, and ruminate and integrate" lol. Most people just resort to UA-cam to learn. The original comment is that a piece of paper (apparently referring to a college degree) doesn't justify how educated you are, but it does. Try applying to a job or internship based on a mere self-assertion that you read thick books. Let me know how that goes. The point of a college degree is that there is verification by a (hopefully) respectable institution that a student has undergone a course of study. Even an independent study program is overseen by some institution.

I married my grade school boyfriend who dropped out of high school, I grew up and realized I needed more of a challenge. College isn't important but, continuing your education and being goal oriented is.
Rae Mini Hopa Yea I really don’t like when people conflate college as “just a piece of paper. For one it cheapens the time spent in college working on a degree and two it cheapens the aspect of being a young adult and being able to achieve a goal.
Less educated or less intelligent? I don't care about the level of education, I do however prefer people with similar levels of intelligence to me.

When you try to be a smartass...

misslilila I apologize for not seeing your reply earlier and to answer your question, yes, I do believe I'm intelligent. I don't like to bring it up usually because I don't care much for boasting but in this case I felt it was related. My IQ is 145, but I don't feel the urge to go to college for a chance to get a job in an overflowing market. I'm choosing another route that does not require a college education and I don't believe that it should reflect the level of intelligence or ambition you have. I've found that I connect a lot better with women who can challenge me intellectually, that was the reasoning behind my comment.
misslilila What do you mean? I took one with a psychiatrist about 4 years ago. It took a couple hours. I was unaware that there's another kind of test.
Moving Target Not a college degree, those are just nuts & bolts for ppl wanting to get a job. But a degree from a good uni or a postgrad, especially one in the social/political sciences, psychology or law: those do indicate a certain level of intelligence & intellect, a basic (educated) understanding of the world and an ability to discuss a variety of topics with confidence.
Everyone's like "omg this is so cute" but I found this really awkward tbh
Yeah I think they attempted to force themselves to connect to eachother for the sake of being nice
All first dates have a level of awkwardness I would say and people are nervous so it's harder to be comfortable. It's hard to tell if you'd be compatible on a first date unless there is an obvious difference in ideology.

You do know having a degree gets you more money then people WIHTOUT degrees iright,.,.
How does having a degree get you more money when Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, and Steve Jobs didn't have one and they all became billionaires?
Jessica Kóródy Statistically, people with degrees make more money than people without degrees. Also, the people that you listed were extremely intelligent, and some of them even attended Ivy league institutions before becoming entrepreneurs..
I know people who have no college education that make great money, but I also think that an educated person will not trade their education for anything. Also note that you don't have to go to college to be educated as long as you keep yourself interested in learning about the world around you.
I would. If someone offered me a couple million or even just a million to trade in my education I would do it in a heartbeat. You will never get a million dollar paycheck going to school to take orders working for the man. Maybe over the span of years and you still won’t see that money in whole. I will trade it for anything worthwhile.
Generally, you're less likely to find a person without a college degree making high income than a person with a college degree, statistically speaking. However, you're absolutely right about the last sentence since you can learn almost anything with the internet and books. College degrees are pretty much like driver's licenses.

Yes me too pls
Mina in Japan nice I think only us black people can live with each other even tho our education can be different... btw japan is beautiful I miss osaka
jon Doe - That's true. My father has a PHD degree in architecture. He and my mother are both immigrants and meet each other here. My mom didn't finish 4th grade but she's very intelligent. They're both black. My mom stays home and takes care of our family and my dad earns the money. They're both black. My father didn't care so much about her education but more her looks, personality and skills.
Ashely and Anthony are now happily married with 2 confused kids!!
Lmao
😂😂
Lol but why confused hahahahahah
xX FaNaTiCyEtTi Xx oh man I'm bad person!!! Hhhhh but confuced kids LMAO
What do you mean by confused?
The moment he said he is Portuguese, he started to look more and more like Christiano Ronaldo 🤭🤭
Just remember being educated having a "college degree" doesnt always mean BY FAR that youre smart.
Yes college isnt for everyone and yet again not everyone can do without "college"
Who's watching this without socks on scrolling through the comments ?
Damn it! I'm wearing socks..
Why is this so specific,,, yes i am, and i rarely don't wear socks so you got me
Dawnxtr me
Chrono not too much extra information
Are you staking me?
Difference in their educational views? There really didn't seem to be much difference in that. Just in their own level of formal education.
most of y'all won't get this, cause you're not portuguese, but man... i knew where he was from, from the moment i saw his shoes HAHA those are some portuguese-ass shoes

Is it me or what. Most of the girls guessed the guys work as a graphic design? 😅
The one time I saw a girl who didn't guess that, the guy actually was a graphic designer
Chasya Dawi yeah, he doesn’t even look like a graphic designer
brittany smith there is a look?
Patricia Carvalho yeah
Chasya Dawi because its quite safe.. saying they are not professionals in a kinder way
I love that he was open about his education. I also love that she understood his point and respected his stance on school.
You’d be surprised that a lot of educated people are in jail
koukimonzta true
Many get educated while their locked up
kappelmeister123 many people have gotten an education and got degrees in jail. It’s very common
Tax avoidance
personally, education has had given me opportunities. But I can also vouch that its not the only way. I know a lot from my former school who aren't even using their diplomas and are venturing on other careers where they are more happy. So no matter which choice you make as long as you have a passion for it, be you.
Ni Enye you're right. great comment
Ni Enye thank you! love this!
He seems really sweet and he's a handsome looking fella! I would be surprised if she said she wouldn't date him just because he had a different view on education.
My husband was exactly this! He is driven and Asian Chinese. I came from a family of hard workers with integrity. I "had" educational aspirations but they didn't pan out. To this day... I work sales and I am the best I could ever be at it. I work hard. I enjoy helping others. I put my best foot forward and do so with a level of exuding confidence and passion. My husband believes this is a very good quality in people. Doesn't matter where you work.. as long as you do your absolute best at the job.
his point of view on education and paths is amazing, and he’s such a cutie
Education is not as important as the ability to think critically and have a good conversation. Some people find their calling and anything more than vocational school is a waste of time for them.
I'm Korean and I thought she was Korean.
Im Portuguese and did not know he was Portuguese...
im joseph and no one care
come clash with joe - clash royale I do
Anónimo Pt 😂😂
Love this ep. And wow he had so much personality, energy the whole lot. Seems like a wonderful man.
Cute as heck...also it’s nice seeing someone so motivated to do what they’re good at and openly say college is not for them...I feel like when I tell people that they look at me completely different and have no faith...I need to be as confident as him when explaining to people my plans and goals
Yeahhhh! And, all the best to you!!!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
In a relationship there will always be someone less educated
There was NO CHEMISTRY between them, but neither of them could say that that " I don't feel chemistry so no I would not date you".
Aw i love dis guy. He's definitely my type. He has an amazing personality, works hard, being himself....what i really want in a man
My mom was like "why you want a phd degree. you cant find a boyfriend". And sadly, she was right.
go get this degree gurlll
And my parents say, get a PhD, grad school is the only place where you'd meet a guy who understands you. (They're really just saying that I'm too nerdy for normal people).
Get both ‼️‼️ Stay away from liberal arts tho
Date a doctor. Lol
😛😛😛😛...
7:01 for some reason his face screams, "She wont shut up" to me.
LilTRoberts1000 YES
😂😂😂😂 in dead
"Have you gotten lunch?" 😂
lol]
Day and she says education is a big thing 😂 obviously not grammar
That was correct grammar. That was actually as formal as you can get using past particle. Gotten implies the process of obtaining something, so yes, "Have you gotten lunch?" is correct.
Stay in school.
That guy seems very genuine and down to earth. Good looking too. Great catch.
Amalene Miller He does seem very genuine and down to earth but he’s a salesman so it could all be a lie
Ok, theres a difference in not being educated but intelligent and not educated but also stupid..unfortunately, I've dated guys that are uneducated and stupid 😂
Fluffy296 lol same girl same. It’s like at least if they have the degree they can compensate for the stupid but without the degree it’s just welll stupid
What is for you a stupid person? How did you come to the conclusion that you are smarter than that somebdody?
@@Whatsyourproblem99 What is for you a stupid person? How did you come to the conclusion that you are smarter than that somebdody?
He's selling her his love.
She bought it cuz she dum dum head lol
Just because you don't have a college degree doesn't mean you're intellectual inferior to other people who have college degrees.
u're on the newest video :D
Toxin Haha I just finished watching thanks :D
Of course! I think people who think otherwise are a bit snooty
It doesnt. Its an indicator however.
Mas A technically yes it does
Ugh they’re so cute. Why are these videos so addicting? I love seeing strangers interact in real ways and being honest with who they are
Ikr!
In my early 20s, I dated someone who had no interest in college whereas I was set on getting my degree. That was fine, except he didn't like anything remotely intellectual-not books, not museum visits. It's like he was actively against curiosity. That troubled me.
Rafael Gonzalez nah you're just in denial. Some people have zero ambition and are disrespectful about other people's taste. He could have tried to make the best of the situation but chose to be lazy.
Omandita4 Yea a lot of guys I’ve dated who weren’t into college were flat out anti- intellectuals. It’s one thing to not go to college but to not have critical thinking skills and be curious about the world around you is a lot different. We don’t really discuss people being anti-intellectuals enough in my opinion. I knew for a fact I wouldn’t want someone like that around my future children or even my younger siblings because that lack of interest and Drive is hard to explain to kids.
Who wouldn't date him?
Fagner Macedo straight male
Fagner Macedo me
Lol I wouldn't date him either. He's really nice and good-looking, but not my type.
Don't listen to them. I'd date him
Fagner Macedo 😜
