    Guys lets not forget the resistance cartoon is childish and has silly dialogue because its for children. I think its great that a new generation gets an introduction to the star wars galaxy. Obviously I don't like everything about the new trilogy but we shouldn't just selfishly horde star wars just for ourselves, it should be there for future generations.

      Because the NR blamed the Clone Wars and the subsequent rise of the Empire ON militarization.

    • @daniels7907
      @daniels7907 5 років тому +26

      Which was stupid. The invasion of Naboo demonstrated that a private army could be used to overthrow the elected government of a Republic member world. Then the Separatists militarized *before* the Republic and were willing to wage war because they thought that they would win easily. Remember that the Separatists were pretty much run by militarized megacorps that simply decided that they were going to force the demilitarized Republic into submission. Pacifism only works if *everybody* agrees to it. But TFA also implied that there was a resurgence in smuggling and gang activity under the NR. Which strongly suggests that their pacifist stance was inadequate even to law enforcement, much less defense against a hostile power.

      Red Death, yes, it was foolish, but real history is full of people foolishly making the same mistakes again and again. Besides, if they did fix everything, you wouldn't have much of a story left to tell; unless you just kept introducing additional more and more bad guys just to keep the plot going, until you were introducing super-overpowered extra galactic invaders, or something silly like that.

    • @daniels7907
      @daniels7907 5 років тому +21

      @Jesse Berg - The problem with that is that we, the audience, are supposed to see the pro-Republic Resistance as heroes. But the Republic is consistently depicted as a *failed* system. So why should we root for it? It would have been better to make the New Republic and the First Order direct adversaries, rather than having an impoverished and tiny Resistance fighting for what seems to be an apathetic galactic populace that doesn't really appear to care whether they live under a democracy or a dictatorship.

      Even if they were working to fund more local defense groups, that would make the problems the Imperial Navy so much worse. How would you deal with pirates that hit and then flee the jurisdiction, will the other planets be happy if your fleet comes charging in pursuing pirates? Also how do you deal with interplanetary conflict and enforce laws on unruly systems, call up the planetary bannermen space Game of Thrones style? While you can reduce your fleet, it still would be important for the New Republic to maintain a decent fleet that can respond to a given crisis

      Mon Mothma was blinded by her nostalgia for the days of Chancellor Valorum, when the Old Republic was demilitarized and all issues were political only. Somehow she forgot that the Clone Wars happened because there were plenty of systems that didn't want to be a part of the Republic and were willing to wage war to secede. That the Imperial remnant might reform into something new and dangerous was dismissed.

    I hated how in Force Awakens they merely say that things exists such as the Knights of Ren or the Republic i mean, 5 random planets blow up, i feel nothing, then Finn says "its the republic" and i was baffled at the fact that there was no build up, it was just used to make their own version of Aldeeran

    • @daniels7907
      @daniels7907 5 років тому +12

      Remember that we didn't see much of the Empire in the OT either. A lot of people lose sight of this because the OT was so long ago that people confuse things which were shown in the prequels with things from the OT. Note that this is especially true of the destruction of Alderaan. We never even saw the surface of the planet! At least in TFA they show people on the surface of Hosnian Prime as their death approaches. It was literally 28 years in real life between when the destruction of Alderaan was depicted in ANH (1977) and our first actual glimpse of the surface of Alderaan in RotS (2005)!

    • @ivancerecer5758

      Daniel S i also dont care about Aldeeran, i just got lazy and didn't feel like adding that detail, also, many arguments that are used for "the sequel trilogy" can be made for the originals, but the originals are excused because they were made like nearly 40 years ago, its like a scientist in 2018 believing that the Earth is flat, the sequels should improve from the originals to enrich the story not copy them (which includes the original's mistakes too)

      @@daniels7907 Except back when the originals were made, expanded backstories weren't a thing, you didn't need to know all that stuff, when the prequels came along, they greatly expanded the lore. The prequels fleshed out the star wars universe alot, so why shouldn't the sequels do the same?

    • @daniels7907
      @daniels7907 5 років тому +4

      @@armzngunz Except that the sequels *don't* do that! The extremely narrow focus of the films pretty much excludes the galaxy as a whole and instead devotes time to character deconstruction. TLJ was the worst offender here. Basically it was a story about how *everybody* is an idiot and how they are in a race to the bottom where the slightly less stupid faction will pull out in time and survive.

  • @daniels7907
    @daniels7907 5 років тому +87

    That was one of many things in TLJ that I found extremely weird. Leia was betting the lives of the entire Resistance on her mysterious Outer Rim "allies" (who wouldn't take her calls). You would have thought that after the Hosnian System got blown up that Leia would have broadcast the sensor data from the battle of Starkiller Base to the untold thousands of Republic member worlds in order to rally them to the cause of fighting the First Order. Instead, the New Republic is completely ignored by the movie. This was a big part of my issue with Admiral Holdo's arrogance towards Poe in TLJ. Realistically, *nobody* in the Resistance has *any* kind of formal, government-sanctioned rank (including Leia). So Holdo had no right to give attitude because the Resistance runs on personal loyalty more than on a strict chain of command, which was demonstrated in the movie when Poe ordered the attack on the dreadnought and Leia, Ackbar and Holdo did not countermand him and order the bombers to withdraw. All the while, the New Republic is studiously absent.

    • @ThatOtherAndrew
      @ThatOtherAndrew 5 років тому +17

      That first point is really interesting now that you mention it. The FO freaking blew up 5 habitable/civilized planets with a giant super laser; I don't care if you're the biggest anti-Leia person in the entire New Galactic Republic, that has to raise a least a couple eyebrows at least. No freighters/transit ships arriving into an out of place asteroid field? No Communication outages? Nothing at all?
      It really doesn't make any sense that what we see in TLJ would be all that's left of the Resistance or that the Resistance's leadership would be totally alone like that. There's no way the event at Star Killer Base would have been ignored, even if there was something like another Palpatine-like take over happening on Coruscant.

    • @daniels7907
      @daniels7907 5 років тому +21

      Exactly! The New Republic did not just consist of the five worlds destroyed in the Hosnian System. There are literally *thousands* of member worlds at the very least. The Resistance would have had telemetry from the fighters that attacked Starkiller Base (in TFA that was how they knew what was going on with the battle) as well as visual recordings from all the astromech droids in the X-wings. So, not only should the rest of the Republic have been aware of the glaringly obvious fact that the Hosnian System had been destroyed just by way of lost communication and any ships arriving in-system afterward, but Leia had *proof* of the superweapon used and the fact that the Resistance had destroyed that superweapon! Plus, by that point the First Order knew about the Resistance base on D'Qar and thus Leia had no reason not to transmit her information because it's not as if they needed to stay hidden.
      So you're quite right. Even the biggest anti-Leia naysayers should have been either been shouted down or else switched sides to support Leia and the Resistance. But Rian Johnson was so in love with his slow-speed space chase, Canto Bight and Crait storylines that he preferred that the rest of the New Republic simply not exist for the purposes of the movie.

    • @andrewlyon4495
      @andrewlyon4495 5 років тому +2

      There are few possibilities I can think of off the top of my head. A) No force big enough to even chance getting near a full FO fleet was near Crait ( few would know about Holdo's suicide crash until later on) B) Probably a few hedging their bets to see how this whole thing shakes out C) possibly Hux told the new republic centerists working with the FO to get out of Hosnian system before he fired Starkiller. Now the NR government is completely controlled by FO collaborators sabotaging military reactions as long as they can.

    • @lordfrostwind3151
      @lordfrostwind3151 5 років тому +7

      This is total headcannon, but I believe after the destruction of Hosnian Prime the First Order and their allies in the criminal underworld and any sympathetic centrist worlds (I also chose to believe the other Imperial Remnant groups or Remnant State) launched surprise attacks on the remaining New Republic fleet bases, patrols as well as the worlds that were still supporters with a strong military presence, like Mon Calamari while the remaining leadership was trying to figure out what the Hell just happened. Think like a massive galaxy wide version of the Pearl Harbor strikes or the beginning of Battlestar Galactica. With the main fleets and sympathetic PDF groups wiped out, the First Order began consolidating power and striking at the smaller threats like the Resistance and remaining PDF groups sympathetic to the Republic.

    • @DarthNicky
      @DarthNicky 5 років тому +2

      +Daniel S Probably the New Republic's central government. If there were to be some major outside threat, the Senate would probably convene to decide whether or not to call upon the planetary defence forces to form together under the command of the New Republic's central fleet (because it *does* still exist)

    There was a major reason why the Old Republic and the Galactic Republic were able to maintain power in their territory: the Jedi Order was working for the Republics
    " _For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the Guardians of Peace and Justice in the old Republic..._ "
    The Jedi Knights were so numerous and spread out and working in different levels of the Republics that they had managed to intertwine themselves as its protectors, and were spread across multiple planets that they were essentially like the Green Lantern Corps. And that the New Republic was quick to drop their military and naval prowess before they had enough Jedi... or *ANY* Jedi aside from Luke Skywalker at their disposal to help maintain order in the Galaxy for the New Republic outside of using an army of their own is very telling.

      They are flying different models of the xwings it’s possible that new republic navy takes special precautions to have their pilots wear Eva suits in case of a breach. Either way both x wings should have life support so Poe technically doesn’t need a mask.

      Or very likely, the new models of the X wings(T85) has undertaken cost reduction measures so more money can be spend on other areas such as armor, stealth, engines, more powerful armament while sacrificing crew comfort like the old republic, Galactic Empire and the first order did with their fighter designs.

      For every "good" scene in Ep. VIII, there are at least five bad ones, and all the good scenes are almost immediately undercut by an, at best, mediocre scene following it. The Hyperspace ramming scene was an admittedly stunning piece of cinematography. But, any good will it might have garnered was overshadowed by the inconsistencies it had with previous lore and fan beliefs about said lore, which spawned a number of questions and "broke" Star Wars for many fans. So, instead of being remembered for its breathtaking visuals, that last scene in Ep. VIII is looked back on with disdain because it incurred the ire of a large enough percentage of the fanbase.
      If you like Ep. VIII, that's fine. I'm not going to insult you, or try to change your mind. But, just because you're going against the current, doesn't mean that you're somehow right or more enlightened. To quote a comment that I read in another comment chain on this video, "Good for you, you managed to see the single golden fleck amidst the shitstorm."

    Truthfully it shouldn't have even been called Star Wars Resistance, but Star Wars Guardians you know not named after something that makes no sense.
    The New Republic should be patrolling those borders safeguarding the New Republic not the Resistance!
    Ideally Kaz should have been part of a unit assigned to the border aka the Collossus.
    Attacked by the First Order Kaz helps two others escape the ambush, but is rescued by Poe Cameron who escorts him to the Collossus explaining the FO's interest in the site and that leads to his investigation not as a spy because he isn't but because he's the only New Republic pilot who arrives forcing him to join a racing team to pay his way.
    I hope the series improves.

She shouldn't step down until everything is handled. It's at a critical stage and needs someone to shape it. Until it is fully formed she should not step down.

    The New Republic was stupid... ENTIRELY disarm and think they gonna reason with someone with NO interest in talking and the ability and willingness to wage a total war on them.. some people as they should known aren't willing to talk at all until you kick the crap outta then for picking a fight. I wouldn't have reduced my military to less then half of the fleet that crushed the Imperial Remenants at Jakku. If not done just that one simple thing the current place wouldn't have been in such a bad place that they in now. Even WITH that odd shaped super SD the First Order wouldn't have stood a chance. Just that the Resistance when it was the Rebellion got to the point it did where it could take on an armada of SDs and all their fighters and support ships at THE SAME time and in a strait up fight is a feat in itself if they got THAT strong. They shoulda made sure they stayed that way they might've been ready for the First Order and even perhaps the Vong later

    • @neilwhite5005
      @neilwhite5005 5 років тому

      The point wasn't disarming the New Republic. The point was forcing the rest of the member races of the republic to become the backbone defense. The idea was simple. Imagine if America started out as an empire but after long fighting the government was over thrown by local militias. Deciding to make America a republic instead of an empire the leaders who now had United many militias into a federal army saw this as too similar to the Imperial America they just over threw. So they disban that army and send them all home to form militias, controlled by state leadership not federal leadership. The New Republic was just trying to put the war sick Galaxy at ease.

    Man, I think it would have had more impact if they filmed the obliteration of the planets in almost the same instantaneous fashion it did with Aldeeran. The people going about their lives seeing the red glow, maybe being horrified, maybe being in awe, others just staring wondering what was happening and then being vaporized before they knew what was truly happening, similar to hiroshima & nagasaki, would have a much greater impact on my feels than the way they showed it in the movie.
