Being a mechanic for 44 years this video has helped me understand the mystery of the hidden secrets of the DSG transmission more that I ever knew. Thank you great techs. Mr asmetofixit. Thank you
Thank you very much for this video. You made me understand more things about mecatronic. You are the fist one I have ever seen dismantling mecatronic. The word of mecatronic makes me even afraid. Thanks again.
Good videoWhen checking the solenoids theres two types you have in the VW 7Speed DSG Gearbox. First you got the shift solenoid that has two positions. OPEN OR CLOSED. it can be energised and de-energised. Thats due to if the solenoid does fail at any stage it will move to its de-energised state and no pressure will be added. Second we have the Variable Force Solenoid can be known as a (liner solenoid) which the name its self speaks alot. It can operate the valve through a range of position not only just OPEN OR CLOSED. That is why the use it for fluid pressure control due to being variable which in turns allowts pressure control to be instantly responsive. When checking them the shift solenoid is usually grounded to the Valve Body and one pin for Live feed. They can operate in two ways. Like a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) or constant voltage applied to it. So when checking them make sure you have a Good ground and 12v or 5v (IF A PWM SOLENOID )
do you know where you can buy replacement solenoids? I broke one of my plug ends by mistake and need to replace one.....you mention that they are two types, how to know??
i can imagine the sophisticated violin quartet playing on their tuxedos at the corner of the repair shop. this is an elegant, gentleman way to work on an oily transmission.
Dear RPM, thank you for a great video. I read some of the negative comments by people telling you how you should work. Considering you were one of the first to dismantle a mechatronic you did very well indeed. Not everyone spends thousands on tools and then rip's off customers to get their money back. You were kind enough to share you expertise and findings. However i need a bit of help here in Covid-UK. I have a mechatronic (0AM 325 065 S) on a 7 speed MK7 Golf tsi (2013). Only when the gearbox is used (gets hot) for 5 mins or more, then i get U0101 - Lost communication with TCM. Once it cools down, everything works again. I am very confident that TCM is the reason but this time when removing the mechatronic it almost comes off but gets stuck. I think one piston is getting stuck. Is there a way i can move it by applying power. Any help would be most appreciated.
Just repaired a dsg 7. The car was not moving, was towed to the shop, initial diagnostic was too low working pressure about 15 bar, needed 40+, i disassembled mechatronics just like the video and found a crack along one of the threads of the accumulator. The half where the accumulator threads into was found separately with improved design(thicker material on the thread) but went with a new mechatronic witch also had oil in it. Put on the new unit set basic settings with vag-com and VAS, but when put in D slams into gear with engine dying. The new unit would not learn part-worn cluth just with BS, had to carefully start the car and went for a drive about 60km, meantime dsg shifting have much improved, no problem when selecting D after that.
Good video of undoing screws. Power screwdriver is a useful tool, you should invest in one. Makes this job MUCH faster. For those who think the DSG mechatronics is too complex, you should look at some videos for advanced "traditional" automatic boxes - they are all as bad. But nowhere near as shocking as the Ford Dual Clutch effort - the worst piece of engineering of late. Especially since there were plenty of designs Ford could have embraced.
Hi man, it's very important remove clutch cilinders before remove valves body, in your video it isn't, but thank you very very much, video helped me! By the way good song.
No you can't use powered tools because this is the trick of German car makers if you use powered tools it will break the sensitive irreplaceable screws! You have to feel the strength of each screw and apply the right amount of pressure otherwise you gona lose the entire gearbox!
Low pressure in the mechatronic is given by the pump or by the solenoids? great video, best one on youtube for disassembly, but the music is kinda annoying.
this video was very helpful, where can i find parts like the solenoid for this same model vehicle and how would i go about fixing a problem like oil coming out of the breather line.
Good evening can help me change the dsg7 mechatronics with a more detailed video, because the professionals ask me dear for the repair I am a single woman with dependent children and I do not have much means thank you in advance
Saludos y muchas gracias!
If this helps, i found a small silver plug on the bottom of the mechatronics part of the gearbox for draining, and another that looks the same on the top for filling. It takes 1l of specific fluid exactly. I still can't work out why everyone keeps saying it's a "sealed unit" and that the oil "can't be changed". I just did it and it drives better than ever!
Please i want to know how car ecu know that clutch plates are finished and what sensor responsible for that I have clutch faults but car smoth and no issues
I have one vw vento 2015 highline AT diesel. Service center is saying that it's mechatronic is not working, have to replace. Will repairing it work 100% ??
Its a great transmission but at the same time very delicate, you can ruin it quickly if not warmed up etc, have to be lucky to not get a weak one from factory
Complexity reduces reliability. All those solenoids and that little circuit board... ay yi yi. And you can't get individual mechatronics components. The whole unit has to be replaced.
are you able to advise me on pump pressure failure on 7spd dsg polo 1.4 gti 2011 ,i have done auto boxes ,but not yet opened my mechatronics ,all my functions on solenoids and gearchanges working just throwing pump pressure fault code ...cracked pressure accumulator/ filter blocked ? any advise will help im going to remove and strip so long ,Thanks Ryan email .....admin@summitmotors.co.za
Gracias
Can someone explain what's the purpose of the two little pistons with boot that are removed during the disassembly? They do not seem to operate the forks of the gears, do they?
good video, can you tell me if it would be possible to make accumulator repair without removing the whole megatronic unit? could I just remove the black cover and replace while fixed to the car?
yes you can. Also take note that it is normally the housing which cracks and not the accumulator which fails. Kinergo has a kit where you replace the accumulator with an aftermarket one which include a part to remedy the cracked housing and prevent it from happening, should you install this preemptively.
For electric motor, use your voltmeter and connect its probe to motor terminals(remember it is a small three phase motor) and run that motor as generator, the motor should produce electricity..... If both phases produce electricity means the motor is fine.
Muchas gracias
Great video!!!My MK6 1.4 122HP DSG have a problem with code 006300-FunctionRestriction due to insufficient pressure built-up!The gears is not changing...
Hello All, The DSG Mechatronics fault unit is the only issue If you at a stop, let me explain better, with my foot on the brake, then I let the brake go and take off at idle speed (no acceleration with the gas pedal) I get what feels like a kick coming from the DSG transmission. It feels kind of like what happens when your car slips out of 2nd gear into 1st. FYI here are some of the relevant facts. I cannot reproduce it all the time. It happens when the engine/tranny is warm. It has happened during times when I'm driving “spirited” and when I’m driving in a sane fashion. It happens whenever the car is in “D” mode or in Reverse. It only happens when I don’t accelerate, only take off in idle. It usually happens when I have been driving, then I come to a complete stop, then it will do the kick if I take my foot off the brake and don’t immediately hit the gas. It kind of rolls forward, “kicks” (drops a gear?) and then continues to roll forward in what feels like a lower gear. looks like this is a recall issue from VW and it covers up to 100.000 miles/10 year warranty.. regular price for repair on a dealer is around $3.000($1600 part and $1400 labor). I hope that helps!
awesome video!! can you say when replacing this unit 0AM, does it requires a coding or reprogramming?? i am replacing a faulty one since no communiction with tcm, i use vcds, any advise will appreciate!
*balls, one on the one side and 2 on the others in the recesses in between the casting and the solenoids, difficult to explain, there are videos on YT.
Look in your owners manual it will show you the quantity.Or when gearbox oil is hot,top up till the full line, on the dipstick {if it has one} If you really need to ask questions like this, best you go to a mechanic.
BRAVO RPM!
Trying to remove the mechatronic unit, gear 6 is stuck on, when trying to move the gear selector fork for gear 6 manually as it will not move, very little play, service manual states this needs to be done otherwise it will get stuck on the top left, which is happening. This is preventing the mechatronic unit from coming out, anyone have any tips please?
Hello, awesome video, i have a 2009 golf vi tsi 1.4 twincharged DSG7 , 90,000km , i am getting a slight juddering, shakes, in the lower gears D1 D2 D3 also funny rattles when shifting, maybe im paranoid but can u give me some advise please, can it be fluid, solenoids etc...??
He have to work manually he can't use powered tools because this is the trick of German car makers if you use powered tools it will break the sensitive irreplaceable screws! You have to feel the strength of each screw and apply the right amount of pressure otherwise you gona lose the entire gearbox!
Hello, I have a vw passat cc with 7 speed dsg transmission, I would like to change the transmission oil as maintenance. Could you tell me how many liters it takes? and if you know which is the original oil that I have to apply. regards
Saludos.
Hello sir I hv vento 1.6 petrol with auto transmission but from last 1 yr it stopped on parking mode, and i cant change gear so pls can u tell me what will the problem
Great video! I have an audi with a 7 speed stronic that shakes on 1st and 2nd gears when accelerating from stand still, what could be the problem? dealer said it needs a clutch set? what do you think? Thanks
I'm going to do the same job now thank you for the video very much I'm going to have a nightmare best video on UA-cam by the way I hated the music you should play chillout music not classic but thanks for the video:-)
Current is not applied, current is drawn which is why you have fuses to prevent faulty part from drawing too much current. A solenoid should draw less than 1 amp, though I would just power them directly from a supply/battery.

What was giving the low pressure?
Pump, solenoids?
Pressure escaped from a hairline crack in the housing.

Any idea how to refill the oil? Why does vw say it can't be done?
For the love of God, get some pneumatic -, and electrical tools. It would take 1/3 of the time.

Yeah its sad that you can't get the solinoids separate from the dealership you have to get a whole mech unit
Very nice some one knows what they're doing

Hello.
Nice video.
Where do you buy solenoid for replacing ?
Can I test the solenoids without pulling the mech out? Maybe I could test them from the harness?? Thanks
no you can not, they are energised by the transmission control unit inside the mechatronics assembly.
Can someone explain what's the purpose of the two little pistons with boot that are removed during the disassembly? They do not seem to operate the forks of the gears, do they?
The oil pump in this gearbox is gear type pump and it has a brushless dc motor.
this dq200 has a 3 phase motor.

Hi i would like to know how to re assemble the dsg box... Most important is the finish i.e the front cover joint?
Good Job and is very helpful. Please I need to know how to test other parts like electric motor and transmission control unit.
For electric motor, use your voltmeter and connect its probe to motor terminals(remember it is a small three phase motor) and run that motor as generator, the motor should produce electricity..... If both phases produce electricity means the motor is fine.
what should 'gear train half 1 valve' pressure values be in normal operation?

Hi Hello
I have a golf 4 tdi automatic gearbox tiptronic
Please let me know how much oil is needed to put in the automatic gearbox.
Look in your owners manual it will show you the quantity.Or when gearbox oil is hot,top up till the full line, on the dipstick {if it has one} If you really need to ask questions like this, best you go to a mechanic.

He have to work manually he can't use powered tools because this is the trick of German car makers if you use powered tools it will break the sensitive irreplaceable screws! You have to feel the strength of each screw and apply the right amount of pressure otherwise you gona lose the entire gearbox!
Hello, I have a vw passat cc with 7 speed dsg transmission, I would like to change the transmission oil as maintenance.

Saludos.

I have an audi with a 7 speed stronic that shakes on 1st and 2nd gears when accelerating from stand still, what could be the problem? dealer said it needs a clutch set? what do you think?
Thanks
+CodeTron the dealer can reprogram the clutches if not, your car need a new set.
Check your drive shafts. Had that problem before. Turned out to be worn cv joints.
I'm going to do the same job now thank you for the video very much I'm going to have a nightmare best video on UA-cam by the way I hated the music you should play chillout music not classic but thanks for the video:-)
How much Oil is inside? Did you cnow what kind of Oil?
Hi and thank you for a great video :) Can mechatronic make any of these fault codes : P0726, P073A and P037B ?
how many amperes should be applied to test the solenoids??. Thank you
Current is not applied, current is drawn which is why you have fuses to prevent faulty part from drawing too much current. A solenoid should draw less than 1 amp, though I would just power them directly from a supply/battery.
And how to replace solenoids?
Now I see why they don't fix these at the shop, it's much faster to just slap a brand new on.
