I give respect to Torre, to be able for any singer to pull off anything that Tate has sang and it sound like old Queensryche is a extreme accomplishment . They sound great.

I’d never go see a Queensryche cover band. They’re impossible to duplicate. This is not Queensryche it’s absolutely a cover band at this point. Absolutely sounds like one. I’ve actually seen better cover bands

@@Houlgravely I know Michael was part or the majority of the creative and writing aspects. U just can’t recreate a band with just one or 2 pieces. Geoff Tate is special he’s one in a million. He can’t b replaced and trying to do so makes u suck. Alice n Chains replacing Layne Staley 👎. Even bands like Motley Crue or Judas Priest trying to replace the frontman backfired. The only success stories I can think of are Pink Floyd and Van Halen.

The ironic thing is that while people are busy hating on Geoff Tate and praising Todd, the new singer is pretty much doing an impression of Geoff Tate. Just because Geoff can't sing the same way that he did 20-30 years ago, doesn't mean that he "sucks". It means that he is getting older. Back in the day he was one of, if not the best voice in rock, there is no way anyone can keep that up forever.

I just found out today that both Chris DeGarmo AND Geoff Tate are no longer in Queensryche.Only because my friends told me Queensryche was playing at Slim’s,and was assuming was the same people in it,and Slim’s being my 2nd favorite place in the City to see a band after The Stone on Broadway...long gone, but had the intimacy that is hard to find, especially considering I saw Soungarden,Jane’s Addiction - when Nothing’s Shocking came out and many, many others - Coroner.Just lots.....So kinda obvious not a huge Queensryche fan, otherwise probably would’ve known about this loss of their foundation. There are just SO MANY different types of music to listen to out there, come back around to Metal but intermittently. So,liked Queensryche, liked Metallica more when the Black Album came out and saw them both at the infamous “Day on the Green” in Oakland where people started tearing up the turf.....So with apologies to Metallica, who I had already seen, and who I still like more than Queensryche,Queensryche ( of course with Geoff Tate AND Chris DeGarmo - this was 1991 ) completely blew my mind,as THE tightest, most professional sounding band I have ever heard.Just an opinion, but have seen 100s of bands since 1978,and honestly Metallica was LOUD - my ears were instantly ringing when they went on,with those Marshall stacks seemingly to the ceiling, but they were not precise, not razor sharp, not perfectly executed like Queensryche was. I’ll never forget that, they impressed me so much.Just one more defense,as far as Geoff “taking care of his voice “ goes...K,this was the ‘70s when we grew up,where a bologna sandwich,a Twinkie, and a thermos of whole milk was considered perfectly healthy lunch. He’s only 4 years older than me,so likely he experienced similar - in other words there was no kale,no organic,no health conscious shit unless maybe you knew hippies who were trying macrobiotic stuff, I believe it was.The majority of us in America were eating Captain Crunch with crunch berries every am.And when you’re raised eating that stuff or if damn near EVERYBODY is smoking cigarettes you usually continue those habits. Now everything is watching sugar, exercising, eat ur veggies etc.but almost NONE of us back then were raised with “taking care of our bodies “ unless you had athletes for parents.Even then maybe not.And somehow,by the grace of god I NEVER took up smoking, but every boyfriend, almost every single one of my friends smoke, struggle with quitting,or stopped trying cuz just too addictive. So,just saying maybe give Geoff Tate a break,we all know this was always a live fast, die young occupation evidenced by the massive graveyard of all the gifted that came up around the same time he did.Kudos to Geoff for making it through - he had,and has a truly unique voice, and it can be difficult to find a unique, passionate, singer that projects from his toes on up and out enough to give you chills the way he always did for me.And with Chris DeGarmo right beside him,....
Queensryche will ALWAYS be in my top 5 of the 100s of shows I have seen.

I just played this for a friend of mine without telling him Todd was singing. He dropped Queensryche years ago... I played this for him and he couldn't believe what he was hearing. I told him this was from last year and he said he doesn't remember them ever sounding so good. Then he said he didn't think Geoff could hit those high notes anymore. That's when I showed him the video. One more fan has rejoined the ranks.

Just saw these guys open for Judas Priest. Man, they totally blew me away. Todd La Torre is the real deal. Close your eyes and there is no mistake he sounds dead spot on to Geoff Tate. I been a huge fan of GT and let me tell you I had doubts when I went to go see these dudes last night, I went into it with the mindset that these guys were a cover band. Well, I was way off. I know that Eddie Jackson and Michael Wilton are the only 2 original members and they still sound as great as they did back in the 90s. The new drummer is also incredible. they all know their stuff, and tight AF. Great show.

It has been SOOOO long since these guys looked happy or excited to be on stage. Anytime you see guys playing inspired like this and really enjoying what they are doing, you know the result is gona be awesome. The Tate version is playing here at the end of the month and I have Zero interest in seeing them live. When Queensryche with Todd La Torre comes to town I'll be there. Geoff isnt the phenomenal singer he used to be, he has to change the songs in order to sing them now. Todd breathed new life into the classic Queensryche songs and brought a fresh perspective for future ones. You cant tell me this Todd version isnt better then this Tate Version also from 2013 ua-cam.com/video/pQd0ua_zbxg/v-deo.html

Despite all your comments only one thing is obvious. We are discussing taste (not Tate :-) ). Wether the video is homemade or professionally done doesn't matter that much. Latorre is and never will be Tate. Noone ever will be Tate from the nineties. Not even Tate himself. So if you love the voice of Tate you will not hear it with this band. Deal with it. I happen to like Tate and Latorre and think Latorre suits just fine. Im just happy to hear the old stuff on a worthy level again.

Even though I liked Todd La Torre in Crimson Glory, he is not a replacement for the voice of a generation. Geoff Tate’s incredibly unique voice and passion for what made Queensrÿche great cannot be replicated by anyone. Todd is trying too hard to vocally copy / replace a legend. Never gonna happen. Also, it’s better to be known for your own stuff and your own vocal sound and not be viewed as a karaoke-type replacement.

Amazing what studio effects can do these days! His breathing technique is flawed also as he's pushing out most of the notes...He has no range in his upper registry as many of the notes just wane off especially up high. There's a difference between an actual singer and one that just simply lacks the dynamic range. His mids are okay but lower and upper registry is being over compensated and appears to be forced.

LaTorre is a fantastic singer!!! l will always love Geoff but it's just great to hear the songs sung in the proper pitches again! The way we all know and love them!!! Now these guys just need to record a killer, classic, 80's sounding QR record. Otherwise, Rock On Queensryche!!!

In all fairness, the vocals on these songs are practically impossible to pull off live. I saw QR twice (back in the day) and even that JT couldn't hit his own studio high notes.

I offered to buy him a drink and he didn't want one all he wanted was to know where he could get a pizza!🤣 All of them were really cool and down to earth! Eddie noticed my queensryche hat and walked up and took it off my head when I wasn't looking and when I turned around to see who the fuck took my hat it was him and he laughed and said "nice hat" we sat there and watched a NFL playoff game in the bar. Seahawks vs packers! Cool time!

Tate in his prime was untouchable, but RIGHT NOW, Todd is a better singer, and obviously there's more harmony within the band.
I'd rather listen to Whip, Eddie and Scott with two new guys, than Geoff and his washed up blues backing band, Kelly Gray is doesn't do Chris' guitar parts any justice.

The only crime in 2 was naming it Mindcrime. It was so far below the quality of the original that I tossed it in the garbage the day I bought it. The fact that Tate turned up on TMS and acted like a diva only made me more sour on him. I hate DeGarmo left, but am glad he's happy, as I am glad that Rockenfield, Wilton, and Jackson are still around.

  • @NightNight202

The real Queensryche will survive without Tate. Originally he was only there for the band's first demo and then split. He was not present when the band chose the Queensryche moniker. He only came back after the band started to get attention from their demo. Tate may have been with the band for the long haul, but that does not mean he is the band. La Torre is doing a fine job as Tate's replacement, and I for one am looking forward to the band's next endeavor.

NightNight202 or you could say that Tate was asked to come in, do the demo as a one off to help the band and even penned The Lady Wore Black. As far as naming themselves Queensryche the band was going to have to change the name anyway as The Mob wasn't available for use so Tate not being present for that is irrelevant. In coming back to the band, why shouldn't he? They were no longer a heavy metal cover band (which is why he originally left before the demo), they also still hadn't found a vocalist and he was a big part of the success of the demo to begin with.
I have nothing against La Torre or the other original members but to think that it's QUEENSRYCHE without Tate and Degarmo for that matter is as absurd as thinking for example that Motley was Motley with Corabi over Vince or that Warrant is WARRANT without Jani Lane. Very few bands beyond say AC/DC and Maiden have ever flourished with a new singer(VH excluded with Hagar for obvious reasons).

I'm sorry I haven't been following all of this until just recently but I have to say La Torre fills the shoes nicely. Tate has been losing his voice and it's understandable. We all get older, we can't hit those notes anymore even when a fan sings to it.
The thing is aside from Tate losing his range he's been going in a direction that really doesn't fit Queensryche anymore. Too many Ballads, in fact I think we can officially say that he is technically Rock and not even Progressive Metal fit's him as a genre! It's sad but I think the split is for the best. Both parties have to conform to their own needs.
