Good article, bit of a poem, anon.
, "From out the cave in single file stepped forth the Clan MacPhee"
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I really like that wee poem. Thanks for sharing it.
Another really interesting views. I didn't know that people were still living within cave until so recently.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's quite remarkable. There were numerous families who lived in caves all around the Scottish coast. They must've been hardy souls.
@@scotlandshistory They must have been very hardy.
Thank you 🙏 😊
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching x
So we have a long and dishonorable history of trying to outlaw homelessness without helping them.
Pretty much, although for the travelling folk, it was, and is, a way of life. Some took houses when offered, some didn't. Thank you for watching!
These people, were too poor for the petty scruples of The Victorian Bourgeoisie.
They were just living hand to mouth. Thank you for watching.
Rather than being onomatopoeic, "tinkler" sounds to me to be a corruption (or mis-hearing) of "tinker" - a tinsmith or sheet metal worker.
In Caithness they were called tinklers due to the sound of their tin goods clanking together on their carts. Thank you so much for watching.
@@scotlandshistory Surely they should have been called "clangers" then ;)
@@Nastyswimmer haha, you have a point! Perhaps I should've said tinkling rather than clanging.
Some of the local gentry were pretty scruffy. Folk weren't sure if they were Sinclairs or Tinklers. 😱
@@forbesmeek6304 I've heard that before 😂
The dwellers despised geese. They killed them all. Even the goslings were quartered and hanged. They kept uttering "No more quack quack!!"
I've not heard of this before. Thank you so much for watching.
A cut above the Bean clan, who also lived in a cave!
Yes, just a bit! Thank you for watching.
is this a repeat /? I seem to recall it from a while ago
Yes, it's one of the videos I've redone as the sound was poor, but I added a wee bit more information. Thank you so much for watching it again.
Their always good
Thank you. That's much appreciated.
Hating poor people, a British tradition...
That may be true for some people, but not all. Thank you for watching.
Nae names nae pack drill😂
They survived as best they could and names weren't necessary for cash in hand I guess.
Referring to the gentry. 😂
Ah...I'm with you.
