I hope these poor soul's all have peace. I live in Dumfries & feel there should be a monument to them on the Whitesands. After all, there was a public apology to them, not that it makes an ounce of difference. Bless them. XXX
It seems to me that they were charged because they had property, or goods that someone else wanted. Perhaps people were jealous of what they owned. Witchcraft was a convenient crime.
I worked in the Scottish Records Office for my dissertation on several of these particular episodes of witch trials. One interesting thing about witch trials in Scotland is that the rate of acquittals was much higher than in other parts of Europe, and also that it cost a Presbytery or Farmtoun an entire year's wages to bring a witch to trial, so it was very important that the villagers truly felt that this person was a threat to their community. In this case all the accused were women, but in Scotland again, you had a higher rate of male accused than on the continent and England as well.
@blauth thanks for that. I didn't realise it cost quite so much, but did know more were acquitted than faced execution. People must've been terrified though. Thank you so much for watching.
❤ 😢😢😢❤ a historic and horrifying upload byt as always very well done x
It was terrible what happened at that time. Thank you so much for watching x
Great episode! Always enlightening. Cheers from Oz.
@tomtomtom7200 thank you so much. It was a really dark time in our history.
The most shocking thing for me is that this was 400 years ago. Yet it feels like something we should have abandoned millennia ago.
@joannabaparileszczynska I know and totally agree with you. Thank you so much for watching their story.

People have been asking for one, so hopefully it'll happen. Thank you so much for watching their story.

Another really interesting video. James VI has hell of a lot to answer for.
He was brutal. Thank you so much for watching Claire x

Those poor women. This was so wrong, anyone who thinks king James was a good king/person should have their heids looked at 😞 Thanks for the video 🙂
@@waynekerrgoodstyle thank you so much for watching their story. It was a terrible time, and people were genuinely living in fear because of it.
@@scotlandshistory No wonder they were living in fear 😞 Keep up the good work 👍
@@waynekerrgoodstyle thank you.
All monarchs are enemies of the people
😢😢😢😢😢
@semigoth299 it was an awful time.
@@scotlandshistory yes indeed
Can you imagine the karma you'd get for doing that to these spiritual women? Yikes.
I can. Thank you so much for watching their story.
Don't we just love the insightful and progressive nature of religious fanaticism, still a force for good in the world. 😅
Thank you for watching their story.
I know the term not proven it’s not either innocent or guilt
Yes, basically, there's not enough evidence one way or the other. Thank you so much for watching.
I know a few that were missed.
Thank you for watching. I could only go on the information I had but a few had very little so were left out.
Lucky my ex wife wasn't around back then
Oh dear...Thank you so much for watching.
It is the ONLY WAY to stamp out the vile evils of witchcraft and devil worshipping and the obsequious ones who submit to satan..
Many of those accused weren't witches at all. Thank you so much for watching.
