Thank you for the wonderful podcast! Saint Edith Stein is very special to me as my father's family is Irish Catholic and German Jewish. Most of the German Jewish branch were killed in the Showy. I'm also a Secular Discalced Carmelite and I'm a writer. God Bless Father and Brother!

Watched this because her feast day was yesterday, August 9, 2024. I find myself interested in learning more about this remarkable saint, so I found your discussion and overview very interesting and helpful. I suspect she might one day be declared a Doctor of the Church for her beautiful insights and writings on the role of women. I will check out that docudrama next. Thanks and God bless you!

I very much appreciate these mini-lessons on Carmelite spirituality. Any chance for a CarmelCast on the secular Carmelites (OCDS)?

Thank you for this wonderful episode about St. Teresa Benedicta. I found it very interesting and informative. I didn’t know that Roman Ingarden was a teacher in Poland alongside Karol Wojtyla and that is how Pope St. John Paul II came to know about St. Edith. Looking forward to the next episode! Thank you!

ST. TERESA BENEDICTA OF THE CROSS (EDITH STEIN): “It has always been far from me to think that God’s mercy allows itself to be circumscribed (limited) by the visible Church’s boundaries. God is Truth. All who seek truth seek God, whether this is clear to them or not.”

Excellent talk! It was simple yet profound. I came to know about Edith Stein an year back and was truly astonished at the brilliance and erudition of her writings, at times finding it hard to comprehend. Though an excellent student of Husserl and an original thinker, Edith Stein is least popular. This has been a perplexing question before me.

ST. TERESA BENEDICTA OF THE CROSS (EDITH STEIN): ‘The concept which assumes that everything in the Church is irrevocably set for all times appears to me to be a false one. It would be naive to disregard that the Church has a history; the Church is a human institution and, like all things human, was destined to change and evolve. Likewise, its development takes place often in the form of struggles.’

I was hesitant to read St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross because, in my mind, she was too intellectual. Thank you for debunking that myth! Thanks to your podcast, I am ordering 2 books from ICS to become better acquainted with her! Thank you much! God bless! Keep up the good work!

Needs to be more on her esp her Science of the Cross about St John and the ann of his 500th birthday, which she could not finish bec the Nazis took her away. Also, the nuns rescued her writings; otherwise, the Nazis would have burnt them.

I’ve been feeling called to read some of Ediths writings for a while but everything I’ve picked up has been very dense. Any suggestions for which of her works are easiest to read?

Edy, I would recommend starting with her autobiography, Life in a Jewish Family.

St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross has a truly holy presentation of genuine feminism-- not the heresy we know as Modern Feminism.
