    I'm loving these reusable metal forms just on environmental impact alone.
    Many people don't realize how little pieces of waste from nail and hair salons add up.

    • @DZrache
      @DZrache 6 років тому +46

      Para Momal that's a very good point. Shame they don't seem to work for edged nails (although that's a kinda unusual nail shape)

      I was kinda waiting on her to mention how it’s a greener choice because I would think that’s the point of inventing a metal version

    • @nebula402
      @nebula402 6 років тому +55

      Exactly! I would use these just for the green aspect. Most nails should fit on these, then just use paper forms for weird shapes.

      Yet put the onus on individuals like yourself to put in a disproportionate amount of individual effort on doing the tiniest things that even collectively barely make an indent instead of on the actual people & companies who create All that garbage. :P Doing the work for huge corporations so they dont need to! Hehe ;) And they can stick to prospering making a shit ton of garbage - not to mention the environmental impact of the processes required to make all that packaging & garbage on top of their actual product.
      Dont be the (clueless but well-meaning) environmentalist who runs out & buys a Tesla when they have a perfectly well-running vehicle already that isnt an Actual military tank. Such a great & neat idea to support going forward. But when we actually look at it, for Right Now, its far better & far less harmful to just keep your car in good shape using up the cars we Already have. Than the gargantuan amount of energy & resources required for producing millions of these new cars & figuring out what to do with all the cars on the road running perfectly well with average gas mileage/waste. Not to mention the cost the individual consumer is supposed to take on when they had a perfect fine corolla before.
      There are many different scales on which to theorize a problem & it's bizarre the ones people default to as it rarely places culpability/responsibility where it Actually belongs.

    • @nebula402
      @nebula402 6 років тому +60

      Masha Kalinkina Individual efforts do not replace large-scale corporate efforts, but every little bit makes a difference. I would argue that if enough individuals buy reusable forms over disposable form, that IS putting pressure on businesses to change.

    My nail tech lives a minimalist and waste free life. She hates throwing out paper and plastics, even at work. She has several metal forms she uses and reuses (after through sanitation) and I absolutely love it because I'm transitioning into the same lifestyle.

  • @wodnyrak
    @wodnyrak 6 років тому +198

    I’m sorry to write something so unrelated to the video, but my brother just told me about the weirdest thing: acrylics on guitarists.
    Many guitarists use their fingers to pluck strings, and they can wear down their nails fairly quickly. So they use tiny metal or plastic “claws”, or, you guessed it, they get acrylics. But they probably don’t get it done well (too little structure for heavily working hands, filing acrylic down to the nail plate, bad application due to guitarists’ nails being often very damaged and short), and my brother had quite a bad opinion of that idea.
    What do you think Suzie? Can this be done at all? Could you maybe figure out a correct way to apply acrylics so that they could be used as picks and not wear down easily or break?

    • @kittiewoodheath7150
      @kittiewoodheath7150 6 років тому +38

      wodnyrak I've seen a few guitarists do this. They've all told me it handles really well. Speaking as a nail tech, I really think that if acrylic is applied in the typical manner, it should be just fine. Yes, there will be wear, but that's going to happen regardless. Also, the acrylic need not be super thick. I hope this helps answer your question.

    • @marce8509
      @marce8509 6 років тому +15

      Just be careful, I know from experience that if the nail is not applied properly when you play it can be painful

    • @jenny9343
      @jenny9343 6 років тому +31

      I made my husband some guitar picks out of acrylic because his hands are kinda big so most guitar picks are way too small for him.. Not the same but it was pretty cool he even joined me in filing it and smoothing even trying to make it himself... I didn't let him do much because I thought he was going to ruin my brush lol

    • @belagracie
      @belagracie 6 років тому +10

      I play the mountain dulcimer and all the while, I’ve had acrylics. I have to be really choosy about who does them and how. If they are too long, it can be horrendously painful! Can’t be too thin, either, or the skinniest strings will just about slice your nail beds clean off. Which can also happen if your nail tech gets even a smidge too short. I play 3 strings, and it works for me, because I flatpick, but other players can go up to six strings, which to me seems impossible to do with acrylics.
      I also have good luck with using gel polish over the acrylics, which can last up to three weeks for me with my practice, teaching, and performing schedule.

      Vini 's she would have to use gel for that..
      And I was wondering if that would harm the gel nail making process also..

    • @Ashleyvr-cw2yn

      Sophia they are super malleable usually and take your body temp easily. Not nearly as cold as you're probably imagining. Any heat difference from paper forms is minimal, imo.

      Since we use our hands and not our actual vaginas to wear nails, men totally have everything they need to enjoy and appreciate nail artistry! If you are interested in learning the techniques but also don't want to walk around with obvious fake nails, there are tons of videos of ways to lay acrylic so it looks like natural nails. I do this for my brother because he has extremely weak bullshit nails that rip and crack all the time and it's painful and unsightly. If you're more interested in the artsy side, my husband is about as masculine as they come in skill set and occupation but he still lets me practice nail art on him over the weekend! Life is short, don't let anybody tell you what you can and cant enjoy!

      Auzzie G lots of men, of any orientation, watch her videos!! (Another nail channel has 10% male viewers, she showed us, bit not allot of nail education going on there right now... but love her anyway) I've seen many men in salons doing nails or getting them done.. My husband likes to help me choose what to do with my nails next.. he's offered to do my non dominant hand. . Gotta make him watch a few videos first!! 😨😨😨 he's not seen one, nor seen me do my gel nails!! I'm thinking he thinks it's like polish...
