- Join Professor Brett Kahr and Dr Salman Akhtar in conversation in Sigmund Freud's study at the Freud Museum London. They talk about how Salman Akhtar became a writer, how he writes, why he writes, and what we can all learn from his unique experience as a psychoanalytical educator and communicator.
Salman Akhtar is a Professor of Psychiatry, a Training and Supervising Analyst, a member of numerous editorial boards, winner of many awards, a writer of several hundred articles, a poet, and a prolific writer - he is the author or editor of over one hundred books. A modern-day Renaissance man, his elegant writing is simultaneously scholarly and literary and brings a light touch to profound material.
Professor Brett Kahr is Senior Fellow at the Tavistock Institute of Medical Psychology and Visiting Professor of Psychoanalysis and Mental Health at Regent’s University. He is another prolific writer, has appeared on radio and TV, and is a talented pianist and singer.
The discussion was filmed on the day of the launch of Salman Akhtar's ten-volume set of 'Selected Papers', firingthemind.com/product/978..., a beautiful hardback collector's item for institutions, libraries, and psychoanalytic aficionados.
Wonderful setting and interview. Sadly, 11:54 is as close to a universal truth as anything i've heard in 25 years of practice. Cheers.
Such a pleasure to see both great analysts in conversation hope to see more soon
